This week, we review Betrayal in Death, and a ghost from Roarke’s past, Mick Connelly shows up, right in the middle of a murder investigation, which immediately makes Eve’s “Spidey Sense” tingle, and not in a good way. It has also made Roarke extra on edge and sentimental, so he needs some extra TLC from Eve. There’s also a huge Peabody and McNab problem which has Peabody needing some extra TLC from Eve.

The theme is betrayals and anyone and everyone is getting betrayed in this one!

  1. Mick’s Betrayal of Roarke
  2. Mick’s Betrayal of Vince Lane
  3. Vince Lane’s Betrayal of Magda.
  4. Jacoby and Stowe’s Betrayal of Eve when they cancelled her op to arrest Yost
  5. Stowe’s betrayal of Jacoby to work with Eve
  6. Peabody’s (supposed) Betrayal of McNab from McNab’s point of view
  7. Roarke’s Betrayal of Eve by him letting Mick go after confronting him

And really…kind of Galahad betraying Eve and Roarke by sleeping with Mick. AND…Eve betraying Trina by not keeping on on her self care regiment. Which is why Eve ends up with a donkey on her butt.

Jen goes off on a rant about this latest conflict between Peabody and McNab and how it’s 100% Peabody’s fault, but Peabody does not get it.

We all decide that ultimately, we like Mick, even though he is more than a little shady, and the fact that he saves Roarke in the end redeems him a lot, even in Eve’s eyes.

We talk about Jen’s theory that Roarke has a specific wine he uses if he wants to impress the ladies: The Montcart ’49. He brought it out the first time Eve was at the mansion, and in this book he brought it out to serve to Magda Lane. We have decided it’s his “Montcart ’49 Move.” Or, could it be possible that Eve reminded him of Magda Lane and that’s why he was so attracted to Eve from the very beginning?

We do feel like in some cases in this book, there are some loose ends that never got tied up which makes it vaguely unsatisfying.

We also talk about how Summerset seems to like to troll people in general, and not just Eve. He may be on the internet right now trolling people as LaurenceBunchofnumbers!
