Socializing is Torture: We Review "Connections in Death"

Episode Number: 296
Season: 5
Publish Date: January 2, 2011 1:00am
Speakers: Tara Corkery and AJ Ryan

Books

Primary Book: Connections in Death

Mentioned Books:

Topics & Highlights

Topics: Oscars, Crack, Rochelle Pickering, An DÍdean, Gangs, Family, and Found Family

Highlights:

Episode 296 is our Connections in Death recap, aka: Eve Dallas vs. the legalized torture of socializing… in fancy shoes.

Highlights / chaos inventory:

The cocktail party from hell: Eve is mentally drafting a war-crimes tribunal for whoever invented skinny heels, while Roarke is like, “Darling… breathe.” Also: Nadine’s Oscar = potential blunt-force weapon, and Eve is not wrong.

The “NYPSD has a band???” revelation: Eve learns her coworkers have hobbies and talents like she’s discovering fire.

Theme call: Family — the real kind, the found kind, and the “gang keeps insisting it’s family” kind.

Eve’s rare murder-free day: beach run, dojo, target practice, and… extremely thorough married cardio. Good for her. (Suspiciously good for her.)

Monday’s “body” that isn’t a body: broken neck + knife = nope, it’s an accident, and Eve solves it with… an apple.

Roarke hires Rochelle for An Didean, because he’s basically building a whole rehab empire while Eve’s trying not to stab a stiletto into her own soul.

Then the book yanks the rug: Rochelle’s brother Lyle is staged to look like an OD… except Eve spots the pressure-syringe mark and it’s game on.

Banger HQ / Underground grossness: everyone is terrible, the crime is messy, and the criminals remain aggressively stupid.

Cohen & Eldena: disbarred-lawyer slimeball uses Eldena’s name, charges her rent in the building she owns, and we all collectively wish for his downfall.

Raid time: homemade boomerangs, chaos everywhere, Eve’s magic coat saves her life, Peabody gets dragged by a naked guy mid-sex (because of course), and Roarke regrets only punching one idiot once.

Wrap: arrests stack like a Jenga tower, Lyle’s redemption matters, and the ending lands on An Dídean and a memorial that finally lifts Eve’s rage-sad a notch.

Hey everyone, welcome once again to Podcast in Death, the weekly podcast where we discuss the in-death series of books by JD Robb. I am AJ.

Tara (05:00.088)
I’m Tara.

AJ (05:02.014)
And this is episode 296 of podcasts and death. And Tara and I were just talking about how, yeah, we’re almost to 300 and I’m putting that show together. one of the reasons we were talking about that is because we did like five minutes of pre intro bullshit, that you guys don’t ever get to listen to because I usually cut it out. And, and, so I’m putting together a montage of our pre intro bullshit that we.

Tara (05:07.372)
Almost there.

AJ (05:30.946)
Some of it long, some of it short, you know, but it should be fun. So it should be a fun, fun episode. Yeah, so anyway…

Tara (05:38.776)
looking forward to it. The best part is that I don’t have to do anything. I’m so sad. Oh my god, I’m the worst.

AJ (05:43.64)
You don’t have to do anything. You’ve already done everything you need to do. Including saying words of heart, like a million times. So I have to put a montage of that together. Anyway. Anyway, so in this episode, we are going to review connections in death.

Tara (05:58.2)
Guys, I’m too much.

Tara (06:10.505)
yeah.

AJ (06:11.862)
And this isn’t one of my top, I wouldn’t put it, it’s in the bottom half, I think for me, because, I mean, it’s okay. It’s not, it’s not a bad book. It’s not one of the worst. It’s all, but it’s also not like in my top 20. You know what saying? So,

Tara (06:24.661)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (06:30.68)
don’t know that I’ve thought hard enough to pick up top 20. That’s like way more than my brain can…

AJ (06:34.286)
I, well, I kind of like, I’m, yeah, I’m just kind of winging it when I say that. Top 20. just, you know, well, I just know that it’s not one of my favorites. So clearly not top 20, because I could probably name off 20 of my favorite books that I would imagine would be my top 20. You know what saying? And this one’s not in there. Yeah. So, it’s still a good book though. And I.

Tara (06:42.552)
Just swinging it.

Tara (06:55.914)
Okay, I follow that.

Tara (07:04.507)
I like this book more than I remembered liking it. I was like, don’t remember what happened in this book. I don’t care about this book. And I was like, I actually really enjoyed this book this time around.

AJ (07:05.068)
Yeah, go ahead.

AJ (07:11.394)
Ha

There were some, yeah, there were some really good moments in this book.

Really fun moments. And the first scene is epic, so we’ll talk about that. I feel like, that this book, the theme is family.

Tara (07:36.106)
Okay, yes.

AJ (07:36.526)
or a friend group that is also family, I think it’s more family. They say family a lot. So.

Tara (07:46.924)
They do. They do. I like that as the theme.

AJ (07:53.858)
Yeah. Because it was a lot about Lyle and him having decided that the gang was his family and the gang was constantly reminding him that we’re your family now. but when he left them, he left them because, you know, he wanted to be a better person for his actual family because he has a pretty…

They were saying at one point that their family was kind of dysfunctional just based on the fact that their dad was a bad guy and had spent time in prison and everything. But they were still seemed like a very tight family group in terms of like their, the brothers and sisters, Rochelle and Lyle and their brothers seemed very close anyway.

Tara (08:43.394)
Yeah.

AJ (08:49.51)
and they were starting to put their family back together with Lyle coming back into it and Lily’s already restless.

Tara (08:56.916)
I- Lily’s like, come on!

AJ (08:59.438)
So yeah, and I think the first part of the first chapter really kind of, even though it doesn’t say the word family in that chapter, it really does kind of lean into it. They do a lot of talking about all of the people that make up their friend circle, but really have become their family.

You

Tara (09:30.486)
Yeah, I love this first chapter. fun.

AJ (09:32.972)
The first chapter is amazing. So how about we just talk about it? Do you want to start?

Tara (09:37.344)
Yeah, I can read it. So we have our timeline. Chapter one, day one, Saturday, Chapter one, Eve is mentally preparing for the worst kind of human suffering, a cocktail party.

AJ (09:52.453)
Yes.

Tara (09:55.082)
You know, fancy shoes, small talk, having to bring a gift because apparently existing isn’t enough. poor Eve. This is from the book. The legalized torture of socializing lined right up with premeditated murder when you added the requirement of fancy shoes. That was Lieutenant Eve Dallas’s stand on it. And she should know she was a murder cop in fancy shoes about to socialize. Moreover,

AJ (10:01.708)
It’s

Tara (10:23.17)
Whoever decreed that fancy shoes for females required sky-high skinny ass heels rendering said shoes useless for any practical purpose, including walking, should be immediately subjected to every known manner of torture, legal or otherwise. Shortly by the almost spring of 2061 in the freaking United States of America, useless skinny heeled shoes should be banned, beat with hammers, set on fire, then banned.

AJ (10:48.462)
She’s also like complaining about, having to bring up, you know, a gift, having to be there anyway, you know, in this dress and like, yeah, everything you can possibly imagine she’s complaining about.

Tara (11:01.302)
right?

I’m kind of with her on the shoes though. I think heels are great for the people who want to wear them. I just don’t like how they’re expected at things like this.

AJ (11:07.617)
Yes.

AJ (11:18.23)
Yeah, well, I wouldn’t.

Tara (11:20.402)
and I enjoy dressing up, but you’re like, I wouldn’t do it. I won’t either. Like, I will wear a nice pair of flats any day, but I don’t want heels. I don’t like heels. Nope. So there’s that. So.

AJ (11:23.552)
I would do it.

AJ (11:36.289)
Nope.

AJ (11:40.76)
Yep.

Tara (11:42.358)
So she’s basically composing a revenge manifesto in her head about whoever invented socializing and Rourke is like, are you done yet? And he’s like, this is still the smartest conversation I’m going to have tonight.

AJ (11:54.158)
Eve, come on now.

Tara (11:57.4)
Right, come on Eve, it’s like all your friends, right? Exactly. Exactly. Right, he’s like, have you gotten through this bullshit in your brain? Let’s go, let’s do the thing that we do.

AJ (11:58.638)
You know, all of your friends are going to be there and they’re all very smart and you have things to talk with them about so stop. That’s what work is saying. Like, are you, are you, are you done yet?

hahahahah

Tara (12:17.496)
So, uh, so they hit Nadine’s swanky penthouse where teenage intern Quilla greets them and takes the coats and gifts like a tiny professional adult. Nadine is hyped to show off her Oscar and Eve immediately clocks it as a weird-looking dickless gold dude and says it’s basically blunt force trauma waiting to happen. This is what happens when your friends are murder cops, Nadine. Then… only you.

AJ (12:36.846)
Of course.

Right, and Nadine did say that, like only you, only you would say that.

Tara (12:47.33)
But then Jake Kincaid shows up and says the exact thing he was thinking about about whether the Oscar should have pants or his works. And Rourke has that good god they’re the same person moment. Jake stops. Yeah, it’s pretty great. Jake starts talking music. Apparently Santiago can rock a keyboard and Carmichael has pipes and even the dead doc can play sax. No doubt about it, the NYPSD is fully multi-talented and extremely cool cops, which

AJ (13:00.182)
Yeah.

AJ (13:17.133)
Yes.

Tara (13:17.14)
we knew. They’re the best. The party is in a full in-depth Avengers Eve. Right? Eve didn’t know because she’s Eve and she didn’t think about it. She does, she already knew that Morris plays Saks, but she’s… I wonder if Eve knows about what her detectives do during their free time or what they’re like at home.

AJ (13:21.216)
Well, we didn’t know Eve didn’t know because she was like, I’m sorry, what? Yeah.

AJ (13:34.849)
Yeah.

AJ (13:43.47)
She doesn’t. She’d never ask him that. Unless they say. And then she’s always surprised.

Tara (13:45.27)
She clearly doesn’t. Right. That’s how. See, this is this is why she knows everything about Peabody, because Peabody is like, I’m just going to tell you about my life anyway.

AJ (13:58.57)
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.

Tara (14:02.07)
Now, to be fair, they’re with each other all the time, but still.

AJ (14:04.672)
And there is like there, and that’s funny. You say that because like there is a moment where, Eve is saying like something about having to do small talk with people. hates that. And she and Peabody have this whole like back and forth about small talk. And I think I put that in here someplace. that small talk is stupid, but that’s how you learn about people. Eve. Yeah. And Peabody is the queen of small talk.

Tara (14:14.744)
Yeah.

Tara (14:27.414)
It is. Yeah. Eve. So, my gosh, she’s so good at, and I feel like she’s also one of those people that, that it’s not small talk with her because she genuinely wants to know about people. And, and I think that there is, there is like a specific like skill to being able to navigate those conversations from awkward small talk to enjoying the conversation.

AJ (14:40.812)
Yes.

AJ (14:48.332)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (14:56.672)
And so I can talk about the weather and with the right person, it’s no longer small talk. It’s us falling into something that’s not just like, hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow, you know, like, and I don’t, and I don’t know if that’s that, and I don’t know if that’s always a skill, but I feel like Peabody definitely has that skill because she’s a, she’s easily invested in other people’s I think I only have that skill with people that I.

AJ (15:11.375)
Yeah, exactly.

AJ (15:19.083)
Yes.

Tara (15:26.44)
no one like or I get lucky and talk to someone who just is like, yes, I too would like to talk about Torney, trauma with you and I just met you. So, you know, there’s that. So this sounds like a fucking lovely party. And it’s in it’s in full in-depth Avengers assemble moment. Feeny shows up in his signature rumpled suit like he stopped by on his way to complain about technology. And then Phoebe Hewitt.

AJ (15:34.167)
Right.

AJ (15:42.732)
haha

Tara (15:56.396)
thanks Eve for the Lorinda Mars case. She is a Nadine’s boss. Mavis arrives like glitter made human and immediately wants to jam. That’s our Mavis. And then Whitney is dancing with Rio. Peabody and McNab are dancing. Baxter’s flirting with Trina, which is a bold choice. Everybody is generally being peak Eve social circle is weird, but kind of great. Just fair.

AJ (16:00.768)
Right.

AJ (16:07.682)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (16:21.432)
Yes.

Tara (16:24.44)
I really appreciate that Baxter is flirting with Trina. Baxter, he flirts with anyone. They’re always talking about how he flirts with everyone, so why not Trina?

AJ (16:27.598)
You

AJ (16:31.946)
Right, exactly. Yes.

Tara (16:37.176)
Um, then crack shows up with his date Rochelle Pickering who is a child psychologist Rourke already knows about her because he’s considering her for Andean. How are we pronouncing? Is it Andean? Andean? Yeah. You all know that I’m bad at this stuff. Andean.

AJ (16:50.062)
Undead on, yeah.

Undy then.

Tara (17:00.288)
And Eve is like, what’s this? And she pulls Mira aside for a vibe check because I love that Mira gets the vibe check question. I love it. And Mira knows Rochelle from Ducas volunteering and says she’s solid, she’s serious, stable, and dedicated. And then Dennis Mira arrives and Eve basically has an internal meltdown because how, because she just.

AJ (17:00.302)
What?

Right.

AJ (17:10.865)
Ha

Tara (17:30.05)
thinks everyone should have a Dennis Mira. And if they did, crime would vanish and she wouldn’t have a job, but also she loves him.

AJ (17:31.938)
Mm-hmm.

Right. And he like feeds her a canapé, is a zucchini and she doesn’t really want it and she doesn’t really like it, but she does anyway because he’s Dennis Meir. Right.

Tara (17:43.596)
Right? It’s right. She’s like, whatever you want, whatever you want. I it’s such it’s so funny. I’m just like, I’m like

Vork is probably watching this going, huh, okay.

AJ (17:59.431)
Well…

Tara (18:02.988)
Figuring out how to draft Dennis Mira into his, how do I take care of Eve when I’m not around her circle? I know I already have Mira on my side, but I need an army.

AJ (18:09.268)
Right. Yeah.

AJ (18:15.16)
There’s very few people that can get Eve to eat something that she doesn’t want to eat. And one of them is Rourke and one of them is Mr. Mirror. And maybe Peabody.

Tara (18:21.644)
Yep. Right. Yeah, that’s about it. Also, that canapé sounded delicious, but I fucking love zucchini. zucchini is my favorite vegetable.

AJ (18:25.516)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (18:30.442)
I love zucchini too, like there’s nothing better. Yeah, but she’s all like, you know, think Rourke goes and gets her some champagne or something and she thinks about like washing the taste of zucchini out of her mouth and like, Eve, stop it.

Tara (18:45.94)
Eva’s so anti-vegetable. I was thinking about this the other day, though. It might have been like listening to the new book. But I was like, Eve, Eve not liking vegetables. I wonder if part of that is because she grew up in the system. it may, according to this book and the way she had the series and how she

AJ (18:47.627)
I know, she really is.

Tara (19:15.094)
has implied her existence within the system, because obviously we spent that time with the one person, but she was all over the place. A lot of these people who are taking care of kids in the system are, they are not necessarily living in this space where they’re like, we eat healthy every day and we, everything is fresh fruits and veggies and stuff like that. And I know that in this world, we are now post,

AJ (19:18.53)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (19:37.996)
Right. Right.

Tara (19:44.724)
urban wars and that there’s a lot of natural resources that are harder to get than they are even now. But I feel like vegetables probably were never a thing that Eve even had. Like it’s not like because because I think unlike other foods.

AJ (19:58.883)
yeah, I’m-

Tara (20:07.692)
People like parents sometimes force their kids to eat what you have. like if Eve was fed vegetables, they were not fresh and they were not good. And she was probably forced to eat them or she was forced to eat them and they were terrible. Like I just, yeah.

AJ (20:13.592)
Hmm.

AJ (20:20.598)
Right. Yeah.

AJ (20:26.978)
I can’t imagine the first eight years of her life, her having a lot of vegetables, if any vegetables at all, like Rick and Stella didn’t seem to me like the people that would be like, okay, here are your vegetables, here’s a salad. No, they’re, right, yeah.

Tara (20:35.648)
Yeah, and that’s like the most…

Yeah, like I feel like they barely, they didn’t even feed her half the time. Yeah, and then after that, she’s in the system with people who are probably not prioritizing fresh fruits and vegetables.

AJ (20:52.426)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, and that’s something that you get early on. I mean, you can train yourself to like, like, my nephew, who I’ve said before is in the military. His parents did not give, I mean, they tried to give him vegetables and he was not about it. And they kind of took more of the easy way out. Like they’ll they got him to eat as much as he would eat, but

For the most part, it’s like, if you just want macaroni and cheese or, uh, you know, spaghetti with just, you know, Parmesan cheese or, you know, white foods is what we used to say. Luke likes white foods. He likes rice plain and he likes macaroni and cheese and but vegetables, no. And, um, but when he got into the military, just based on how the military is and based on his own, like what they felt like he might be good at.

Tara (21:30.166)
White foods.

Tara (21:36.524)
AJ (21:49.812)
he got put in the kitchen and he had to, mean, he didn’t have a choice, but to be around a lot of food that, they have to, you know, their troops giving them as much healthy food as they possibly can. and so I remember being shocked the first time he came home after being away for like a year.

doing basic training and then in the military and him coming home and a soul going like, let’s go out and have some dinner. And he was ordering like appetizers that were, you know, vegetables and he was ordering vegetables, you know, on his main dish and stuff and eating them talking about how much he loves vegetables. And it was like, where did this person come from? Like, how did that happen? You know,

Tara (22:41.409)
Wow.

AJ (22:47.542)
And it was, but he, but he, was because he was kind of because of the military kind of forced to, you know, do that, you know, so, but yeah, it’s something that for kids, unless you do that early, you know, or unless later on in life, they’re like, I just want to start eating healthy.

Tara (23:07.703)
Yeah.

AJ (23:12.8)
It’s not something that you necessarily would grow up with a taste for, you know what saying?

Tara (23:18.4)
No, that’s, I mean, that’s difficult. I mean, I…

I grew up being forced to eat things that I didn’t think I liked. And the good news is that I ended up liking a lot of it. But my sister did not, you know? So it’s two different people. Yeah, we both were. I mean, she was given a lot more leeway than I was, but I’m the oldest, so.

AJ (23:32.524)
Mm-hmm. Right.

AJ (28:37.194)
All this to say that Eve needs to stop freaking out about eating green vegetables.

Tara (28:39.344)
Eve needs to just chill about especially the best green vegetables. So Eve, your zucchini hate. I one of these days, I believe she will come to love the zucchini. So on the way home, Eve starts running Rochelle. But Rook’s already done a full background because of her job possibility. And she has a rough family history, but she’s built a legit career. Also,

AJ (28:46.829)
Right.

So get used to it.

AJ (28:53.304)
She will. Yeah.

Tara (29:09.058)
Her brother Lyle used to be tangled up with gangs and illegals and he did time, he got clean and has been doing the whole turning his life around thing for a couple of years now. Rourke plans to interview Rochelle Monday and expects to hire her.

Which is lovely but now it’s day two Chapter two Sunday, which is a delightful day. Why? No murders Eve sleeps late She eats like a person who isn’t running on coffee and rage. She works out in every possible way She has an extremely thorough married cardio session with Rourke

AJ (29:35.775)
It really is. No murders. Yeah.

Hahaha

AJ (29:49.378)
Hahaha

Tara (29:53.368)
She runs on the beach. She has a dojo session some pool sex target practice Eve is like look at me. I’m thriving when no one dies and we’re like, perhaps Eve you should think about what that means a little more Day two though good times for Eve really good times for Eve and work But we continue chapter two into day three on Monday

AJ (30:13.996)
Yeah, extremely good time for you.

Tara (30:20.938)
Eve hits central early and everyone’s still buzzing about Nadine’s party. Santiago is thrilled Carmichael’s riding her duet high and Peabody comes in while Eve is suffering through budget work and then her communicator goes off and Eve is secretly happy because budget work is dumb. So they’ve got a body Stuart Adler is crumpled in a stairwell he has a history of drunkenness and his neck is broken from a fall.

AJ (30:39.895)
Yep.

Tara (30:49.56)
and a knife in his gut. Which that’s like overkill, really. It looks sorry. I’m just sorry. I was just a bad joke. It’s like it’s like clue. Why would anyone want to kill him twice? Like, like, if one didn’t kill him, the other would have anyway. But it looks sketchy until Eve goes full Eve.

AJ (30:56.814)
With the knife in his gut

AJ (31:02.808)
Ha ha ha.

AJ (31:08.547)
haha

Tara (31:18.23)
and she solves it with an apple. The guy was peeling an apple with his pocket knife. He fell and broke his neck and landed on the open knife. Gross but accidental.

This is a, this was a very like Eve meets Sherlock Holmes kind of mystery or like a monk. It’s very like this weird fucking thing happened and Eve is like, let’s talk about this apple.

AJ (31:34.158)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (31:37.858)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (31:43.814)
And everybody’s going, what?

Tara (31:46.136)
Meanwhile, Rourke is interviewing Rochelle and she thinks it’s about consulting. Rourke’s like, actually, surprise, I want you to be the head therapist. And Rochelle’s like, why me? Isn’t there someone with 30 years experience? She also side-eyes whether it’s because she’s dating crack. And Rourke makes it clear she was already a top candidate before that. I believe that the person who he was going to give the job to has to move out of town.

AJ (32:14.603)
Right.

Tara (32:15.0)
to take care of her ailing mother. So Rochelle talks about liking teamwork and what Andiden is supposed to do, the structure, safety, the rehab community. She tours the place and she accepts the job. gets home, right? She’s like, Rorik offered me a job? My dream job? I don’t know. Right? So much more money. So he gets… Which…

AJ (32:27.726)
Of she’s not dumb.

AJ (32:35.182)
Right, you’re making a ton of money.

so I don’t have to live in this shithole apartment anymore.

Tara (32:42.248)
sucks because obviously she wouldn’t want to anyway after this. Sucks, sucks, sucks. So Rokka told me his whiskey was Somerset, which sounds great, because I think Somerset is cool and I love whiskey. And you know that they were having that fancy ass whiskey that they gave out at Christmas time. So and he reports to all to Somerset, all systems are go with Omdiden.

AJ (32:44.951)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

AJ (32:51.502)
Mm-hmm.

Hahaha

AJ (32:59.598)
Absolutely, absolutely.

Tara (33:10.384)
And immediately, someone said, asks, Galahad.

yeah, is Gal had this aired and he asked if Eve went through the day without bleeding because Somerset is never not Somerset.

AJ (33:25.518)
Yeah, because Rourke gets up and leaves and he was sitting there with Galahad and here’s Eve come in and he says, I wonder if she’s made it through the day without pleading.

Tara (33:27.788)
Yeah.

Tara (33:35.684)
He’s like, well, Galahad, what do you think the children are up to today, essentially? Which you know he has that conversation every morning. He’s like, he… Galahad is Somerset’s best friend. I’m sorry. There’s no way that’s not true. And it’s lovely. Right? It’s not because who doesn’t want a cat like Galahad to be your best friend? So, Steve gets home unbloodied. So…

AJ (33:38.798)
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Uh-huh.

AJ (33:48.13)
Mm-hmm. You don’t have be sorry about that.

AJ (33:56.236)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (34:03.574)
Somerset has to make a snarky comment about something else. he makes a snarky comment about Timpani. And she accuses him of being responsible for flying skeleton reports. And then she brings Rourke wine. So Rourke has had some nice drinkies tonight. Rourke tells Eve that Rochelle is the pick, but he hasn’t finalized anything yet in case Eve objects. Eve asks how Rochelle met-

AJ (34:14.574)
you

AJ (34:19.614)
Yeah.

Tara (34:31.128)
Crack turns out it was at a memorial for a friend who died by suicide and Rochelle noticed how one of her patients responded to Crack and basically recruited him in dementoring. Eve says hire her and they have dinner. Lovely evening for them.

AJ (34:46.369)
Yes.

Tara (34:48.118)
And then Rochelle goes home and celebrates like a normal person, screaming, dancing, telling her brother the good news. She offers to include Lyle on dinner plans, but he tells her he’s got a meeting and that he’s going to go visit their gram. She tells him she loves him. He says ditto and she leaves.

Later, Rochelle and Crack come home after their date and they find Lyle dead in a chair. Crack holds Rochelle back so she doesn’t contaminate the scene and he calls Dallas. Eve and Rourke arrive, they kick them out, and immediately see it in a staged look like an OD. But Eve spots the tiny mark from a pressure syringe. She calls Peabody and basically says, we just went from looks like murder is accident to looks like accident is murder.

and for all sad for sure. was… yeah. my god. So dumb. So anyway. you’re up. How about you do day four?

AJ (35:36.236)
Because these people in this gang are dumbasses.

Yeah.

AJ (35:46.986)
Okay, so day four.

Tara (35:48.8)
Ahem.

AJ (35:52.718)
apartment search confirms the staging. They search the apartment and they find like vials of, you know, unused drugs and pressure syringes. But it’s like too set up, too staged.

AJ (36:11.472)
Go lay down, okay? Go lay down.

Poor, poor Lily. It’s tough being her. so yeah, everything is like two-staged and they cop to it just immediately, you know?

Tara (36:23.116)
Lily.

Tara (36:32.716)
lot of people are like, I’m gonna set this up so the cops won’t think anything else.

AJ (36:37.678)
They’re just gonna know that he just is a loser who killed himself ODing and they’re like, nope.

So they figure Lyle likely let someone in just based on how the scene looked, know, let someone in, turned toward the kitchen, got hit from behind. He’s got bruising like the killers couldn’t resist taking extra shots at him. So yes, this was personal.

Then they talked to the neighbor across the way and that neighbor said she saw a girl with a hoodie and some pink in her hair crying and knocking and saying she’s ready for help and Lyle let her in. Then three big guys came up and the girl let them in and shortly after they left laughing and stomping down the steps. So all very suspicious.

Tara (37:30.808)
They’re terrible.

AJ (37:31.884)
Mm hmm. So even Roar go to cracks and Rochelle recognizes the description. The girl sounds like Denny Duff, who used to live with Kyle and was affiliated with the bangers. That’s Kyle’s gang.

So even when Rourke decided to go into Banger territory and they are joined by two other cops, Norton and Zutter. Dove’s last known address is basically Banger HQ and the cops are there like she’s a user, she’s dumb, she’s a mess. Not exactly criminal mastermind energy. Yeah, at Banger HQ, Slice plays welcoming host. He denies involvement and gives the whole

Tara (38:10.306)
No.

AJ (38:16.65)
Once a banger, always a banger vibe. He doesn’t think Jones ordered those sloppy hits. If he wanted someone dead, he’d do it cleaner and quote unquote, by the code. I do have to say something here because I also had Susan read this book to me.

Tara (38:35.916)
So nice of her.

AJ (38:37.634)
I take time out of her busy schedule to come in. she really is. She, so I don’t remember. can’t remember if I listened to it before. don’t think I did. I think I downloaded it for the show, but, um, it, it, I, don’t know about you, but when she was describing like this, going into this HQ and then later on,

Tara (38:41.496)
She’s just such a good, good pal.

AJ (39:07.06)
They go in the underground and she describes that. The description was too much for me. It went on for way too long. It was just too much raunchy stuff. And I was, I don’t want to be that person. That’s, I wasn’t, I wasn’t necessarily like, you know, I wasn’t clutching my pearls, but it just went on and on. And I was like, we get it. Nor are we get it. It’s a bad place and people are doing a lot of fucked up stuff. I think we can move on.

Tara (39:33.24)
You

AJ (39:35.552)
It just got to be too much after a while for me. I don’t know.

Tara (39:38.69)
there. I don’t remember being like, okay, we can move past this. But I may have been the first time I listened to it.

AJ (39:46.902)
Right. I don’t know. It’s just, just something about this time listening to it. And I was just like, my God, that’s, that’s enough. Move on. I get it. It’s a bad place. And there’s weird sex shit happening everywhere. And, it just felt like this went on and on and on. couldn’t like, Anyway, so when they finally do something that wasn’t like looking at weird sex stuff.

Tara (39:55.384)
I get it.

Tara (40:01.826)
so much weird sex shit happening.

Tara (40:10.764)
Yeah, anyway.

AJ (40:16.694)
in the underground. They go to this place called Wet Dreams, which I guess Denny Duff like worked in. Rorik. So Norton tags that three bangers are tailing Eve and Rorik. So even Rorik arm up because of course they do fight off random thugs and also get the LC hitting

on them mid-client moment because the underground is always a circus.

And the wet dream manager says Duff hasn’t been in since last Wednesday through Thursday or Wednesday or Thursday. Eve clocks it immediately Duff is probably already dead.

Tara (40:50.677)
Exactly.

Tara (40:56.466)
Ahem.

AJ (41:05.066)
So Eve runs Slice and learns the fun detail that Slice is Marcus Jones Jr owns Banger HQ, owns the Banger HQ building and other ventures with a Samuel Cohen, who is a disbarred lawyer and Eldina Vinn, who is a stripper and their business partner. And Eve’s brain is like, how did these three become partners? Later on, they…

go back home and they basically have shower and sex. And apparently like all of this stuff that she’d spent so much time describing in the underground got to Eve also. Because we have this discussion between Eve and Rork as after they’ve had shower sex and they’re in bed. Or after they get out of, she’s out of the shower here and she’s in the drying tube.

And says, she eyes him through the warm whirl of air. We have good sex, right? He glanced over, watched the air sent her short crop of hair flying. I think we just confirmed that. Right. She stepped out, walking back to the bedroom. When he came out, she’d pulled on a sleep shirt, had pulled back the duvet in an attempt to dislodge the cat who ignored her. So she crawled in, giving the sprawling lump of cat a solid nudge toward Rorke’s side.

Rourke lifted an eyebrow, solved the matter by hauling Gala head up and dumping him at the foot of the bed. I’m sure that didn’t last long. Then he slid in and hooked an arm around Eve, drew her back to him. We even have like adventurous sex. Again, just confirmed. What’s in that mind of yours? I figure people can do whatever they want sex wise as long as everybody’s an adult and willing. As long as nobody ends up on a slab, but she turned over.

Tara (42:41.048)
Right.

AJ (43:02.058)
and since he hadn’t yet called for lights off, looked at him in those eyes again. I’m never going to whack your balls with a shock stick to get you off.

AJ (43:14.42)
And Rourke says, it’s difficult to find the proper words to express my gratitude for that. Okay, and and I don’t want you clamping any weird toys on my nipples. I can agree to that. So see, even Eve is like, you know, they’re just some things that I saw tonight that, you know, I didn’t need say that. Let’s not do that. Yeah.

Tara (43:18.904)
You

Tara (43:32.022)
This was, that was enough. I’m good.

I did laugh out loud to Rourke being like, or to you being like, I’m not gonna whack your balls with the shock stick.

AJ (43:46.892)
Yeah, thank goodness. Hi! I know, we’re very restless today. know. I know. Can we lay down though and be quiet? Maybe? Go lay down. Go lay down.

Tara (44:02.808)
you

AJ (44:06.635)
Okay.

Do you want me to go on to day four? Or do you want to do day four or do you want to pick it up at day five?

Tara (44:17.94)
you continue day four unless that’s too much.

AJ (44:23.436)
No, I’m okay. People are just going to have to listen to a lot of tippy tapping. Go lay down.

Tara (44:25.208)
go for it.

AJ (44:30.968)
Go lay down.

AJ (44:35.118)
Someday she’s more restless than others.

AJ (44:41.0)
okay. So day four on the way to the morgue, Eve sends a memo to Lila Strong asking how Jones got money for real estate. Morris confirms that she must have wanted Strong to look into that.

Tara (44:59.67)
Yes, because Strong is her closest contact in that division.

AJ (45:05.62)
Right. Okay, Morris confirms the order of Lyle’s murder, Trank, while he was held down, then killed and staged. Then they find Duff’s body. She was beaten, raped and dumped right on Banger slash Dragon border. He’s like, Jones would never do this, this messy and he wouldn’t dump the body where it would spark a gang war.

So Peabody gets Duff’s shirt from Nancy Nuts?

Tara (45:39.532)
yeah that’s right, was like a… she was a… I don’t know, she was a homeless person nearby or… but she was like a witness… ish.

AJ (45:51.31)
Got it. Got it. Got it. Yeah

Right. So, and then they go to Bangor HQ to talk to Jones and he’s like, okay, well, I’m hungry. So let’s go have some breakfast, I guess. So they talked to him about this diner, but, and after talking to him, they don’t think he ordered the hit.

so Eve, this is from the book. Eve tags Rio while she’s, no, this is not from the book. Well, this is from the book, but, I wrote this down kind of from the book. Eve tags Rio while she’s waiting to talk to Slice.

Rio, you’re looking to search and seize at Banger HQ and anticipating an altercation? It might come to that. Let’s give it a minute. So, Eve dug for small talk. How are things? On the link screen, Rio stared. You’re asking me how are things? I’m killing a minute. It’s the small talk. I say, how are things? And you say, good, or they blow. I say, great, or gee, that sucks.

then you say, how about you? And I say, oh, nevermind. She finished when Jones opened the door. Minutes, DOA, I’ll tag you back. So she was just looking for something to do. She told him that she was going to get a warrant. She got on her phone to show him that I’m going to contact the DA and she’s talking to Rio and she’s like, so how are things?

Tara (47:21.208)
you

Tara (47:26.008)
She’s fucking hilarious. I laughed so much.

AJ (47:28.75)
So then later, after they talked to Slice, Peabody says, Slice works out. He’s got a mag bod going. I don’t think much of the one arm tat sleeve personally. Eve, this is why small talk is useless and annoying. So, you know.

Tara (47:51.899)
Eve.

AJ (47:54.678)
Then Strong tags Eve and drops the bomb. Lyle was her confidential informant for 10 months. Strong explains how it started. Lyle gave info to protect a kid from from blowback. Strong busted bangers on dealing to minors and Lyle became her CI. She recently told her LT because a big illegals buy was coming. Now she’s terrified her leak got him killed.

Tara (48:07.16)
AJ (48:23.498)
Also, she’s dating Lyle’s sponsor, Matt Fenster. And I was the whole time thinking like, what happened to, what was his name? Her boyfriend from the first book.

Tara (48:35.088)
I know me too. What was his name? All I know is that he was like a big guy and they had a little dog and I thought that was cute.

AJ (48:41.866)
Yeah, I can’t remember what his name was, but something happened. I don’t know. So she is dating Lyle’s sponsor, Matt Fenster, and she asked Fenster to come in to talk to Eve. Fenster comes in, Strong breaks the news, and Eve interviews him. He confirms Duff was constantly trying to get money and that she even offered

Tara (48:45.27)
me either.

AJ (49:11.359)
him a bj for cash when lial wouldn’t give her anything and he refused

Peabody notifies Duff’s mother who is not surprised at all. She hasn’t spoken to Duff in over a year and basically says Duff burned every bridge she touched. Eve finds Lyle’s journal. He decided to stop helping Duff because it was enabling. But if Duff showed up crying and begging, yeah, he would have let her in. Back at Rochelle’s, neighbor asks, neighbor, the neighbor adds a key detail.

One of the guys had the jittery finger snapping thing. Eve takes stock of stolen items. Rochelle’s red purse, her mother’s brooch, cracks earrings that he bought Rochelle for Valentine’s Day, a bracelet plus Lyle’s save it jar is emptied, his good shoes and earbuds are gone. Eve gets photos from Rochelle and puts Bolo’s out.

Um, and then they leave. I just thought this was so funny. They leave. Um, and he and Peabody right away is like, feel that on the sidewalk. Peabody lifts her face. That’s what 60 degrees feels like and sun, winter’s done. It’s over. And he was like, you say that and just ask for it to dump a round of wet snow on your 60 degrees.

Tara (50:27.628)
you

AJ (50:41.186)
But damn if it didn’t feel good to walk without getting slapped in the face by wind or slogging through the last round of wet whatever that decided to fall. How about a soy dog? My treat. Eve knew the street dogs were disgusting, but even Rourke’s amazing menus had never killed her taste for them. Loaded. Is there another way? Peabody almost danced on her pink boots to the cart. I’m getting a fizzy water.

Tara (51:02.081)
you

AJ (51:09.356)
The bug juice was pretty good, but I can’t get the taste of spinach aftertaste. They had a green juice when they were at Rochelle’s.

Tara (51:17.826)
yeah.

AJ (51:19.982)
And Eve says, Fizzy water’s good because cart coffee that she had lost her taste for. Chowing on loaded dogs, they walked toward a sex club. And Peabody says, so how serious do you figure Crack is about Rochelle? Because that’s really on what’s on my mind right now. Right, right?

Tara (51:40.254)
Eve, you did a fucking background check on her. You fucking hypocrite. That’s literally I’m in my car listening to this and Susan is doing this and I just go, if you did a background check on her.

AJ (51:52.436)
And you also just got finished talking to her about her brother and probably crack was there. So yes, you know.

Tara (52:08.778)
Eat.

AJ (52:10.2)
Peabody took another bite, talked around it. There’s always room in the brain for romance and you know, spring. What’s spring got to do with it? It’s romantic. Seriously beaming, Peabody licked a little mustard off her thumb. People get romantic in the springtime. I thought they got romantic in winter for the body heat. Not sex, romance. Although in spring, you could have sex in a meadow because romantic. Bugs, bees, possibly snake bites on bare asses.

Tara (52:40.374)
I’m gonna jump in again because did even work? Not have sex in their own yard.

AJ (52:41.888)
hahahahah

my gosh, they’ve had sex everywhere, stop. Everywhere, outside, inside, doesn’t matter. Yes, they have had sex in their backyard many times.

Tara (52:49.366)
Right? But,

But also, because we’re always talking about this because people’s birthdays get brought up. Like, you know people be getting frisky in the spring because there are, because of when birthdays be falling, you know?

AJ (53:02.787)
Yeah.

AJ (53:11.278)
Yeah, yeah. mean, I once said to somebody there was a meme going around for people’s birthdays in like December or something like that. And people were like, you know, happy birthday, your parents fucked on Valentine’s Day. Something like that, you know, so yes. And I love that the next thing that I said is undeterred because

Tara (53:20.439)
Yeah.

Tara (53:26.676)
Yeah. Yeah!

Tara (53:33.143)
Anyway.

AJ (53:37.518)
Peabody is totally at this point, she’s like not even paying attention to what Eve is having to say. She’s gonna continue with her small talk. Undeterred because spring, Peabody pushed on. He gave her pretty earrings for V-Day, that says serious. Right now he’s connected through the earrings and the woman whose lobes they dangled from to a couple of pretty serious murders. Eve polished off the dog. Let’s stick with that. So Eve, okay, whatever.

Tara (54:04.196)
Eve. And Peabody was like, yeah, she’s so used to Eve being like, Peabody, I don’t want to hear it. She’s like, you know what? One of these days, and actually not one of these days, because I know what’s happened. Peabody says things in these like little moments, and later Eve is thinking about it. And later it like leads her to figure shit out.

AJ (54:11.971)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (54:20.673)
Heh.

AJ (54:25.822)
Right. Or to like, do something nice for Roark or do like, yeah. I mean, you know.

Tara (54:27.596)
So Eve, calm down.

right? It like opens up conversations between her and Rourke because she is listening to Peabody and Peabody knows she’s listening to her and this is just their shtick. It’s the same as even Somerset. She just has a shtick with everyone.

AJ (54:35.402)
Exactly. Yes. Yes, she is.

Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, it’s great. So they go to cracks and crack confirms they go to the down and dirty crack confirms the earrings are worth real money. He insured them for 10 K, which Peabody like almost swallowed her tongue at that admits he was going to ask Rochelle to cohab and now he’s in full. I’m not taking no mode.

Tara (55:00.428)
Holy fuck.

AJ (55:13.25)
Peabody suggests he send food to the family so they don’t have to manage that on top of grief, which was a really nice thing for her to suggest to him.

Tara (55:20.888)
Really, really great idea.

AJ (55:23.522)
And then this is one of my favorite parts of the book when I, I laughed at this like out loud for several minutes. When they leave because they first talked to Crack’s bartender and asked for Crack. Then he’s like, okay, I’ll go get him, whatever. So anyway, they’re leaving. And

So they asked him and he’s like, okay, I’ll go get him. And it says, sorry, something in my eye.

He got up all rippling cut steel, a single blue braid spilling out from an otherwise shaved head, and went through the door behind the bar. How do they get bodies like that, Peabody wondered? Do they pump iron 20 hours a day, eat some special protein, sacrifice goats to some primeval god? The last got a snicker out of Eve. It’s scary and exciting at the same time.

I’m glad McNabb’s not built like that. I don’t think I could handle being scared and excited every day. anyway, so now they’re at the morgue. Morris delivers stuff’s COD in the most Morris way possible. Beaten, raped, skull cracked.

Talks shows she was dosed to keep her compliant but aware enough to suffer. Later, Meara says the killer is impulsive, misogynistic, and probably trying to depose Jones. Harvo ideas they found a hair on her, and Harvo ideas it, and the hair comes back as a Barry Fist, quote unquote, Ames, age 17.

AJ (57:15.918)
Barry to work and then to his apartment. A neighbor teen says she’s not allowed to open the door to him because he’s trouble. Inside his mom’s place is too tidy, but Barry’s room is locked and when they get in there, it’s disgusting boy stink bunker. Eve opens his closet and boom Rochelle’s red purse and duff’s ripped out earrings still bloody.

so right Edd traces his link but he was like if Barry’s lucky he ran if not he’s dead then Eve tags Rork to meet her at Cohen’s place

And this is a weird way to say this, but his girlfriend is Eldina and she’s the stripper and she lets them in and then goes and tells him that they’re here. She was very excited because she knows who they are. And then Cohen walks out and realizes that even Rourke there and basically, you know, is not having a fun celebrity moment.

Eldina was having a fun celebrity moment and he is now not because he realizes, no, this is the police. So Cohen tries to run his legal manipulation routine, but he blocks it because Eldina’s name is literally on the documents. This is the first time Eldina’s heard about this. And she’s like, what are you talking about? And…

Tara (58:42.7)
Yeah. Yeah.

Tara (59:00.79)
Ahem.

AJ (59:03.518)
It says, she remembers signing the ownership papers, but she didn’t read them and realizes Cohen’s been playing her hard. orders surveillance on Cohen’s building because she thinks he’s about to bolt. Rourke digs up a Kojo Corp and buried accounts. Sure enough, Cohen leaves with a suitcase. Time to get Rio and a warrant. So I feel really bad for Eldina because she finds out.

Tara (59:32.268)
did too.

AJ (59:33.486)
that he’s been using her to buy a bunch of properties, but not telling her about it and then also charging her rent. So he’s, he’s a piece of shit.

Tara (59:43.83)
Yeah, he’s a piece of shit and I felt so bad for her.

AJ (59:50.102)
Yeah. But then later, Eve goes back to question her again or whatever and says something about, know, because she’s like, I have to figure out where I’m going to go because obviously I have to move out if he’s going to be in jail, I can’t afford this place, blah, blah. And she’s like, you realize you own this place, right? Like you he had you sign this document, but the document was you own this place. And she’s like, what?

Tara (01:00:17.73)
Wait, wait, what? I’m paying rent into a building that I own. It’s so shitty.

AJ (01:00:20.513)
Right.

AJ (01:00:24.652)
Yeah. Yeah, he was.

So, mm-hmm.

Tara (01:00:29.25)
He is so shitty. Yeah, I like her though.

AJ (01:00:36.043)
Yeah.

Tara (01:00:38.658)
big fan. Okay, so day five, Wednesday, we’re at chapter 13.

Tara (01:00:57.08)
Ahem.

Tara (01:01:02.1)
Okay, so Eve coordinates with Whitney because she wants Cohen before the feds swoop in for the tax fraud and seize everything. And she gets a very short window. So they serve the warrant at Eldina’s and Eldina has a friend there who says she kicked Cohen out and tells him to suck it when he calls her lock up. McNabb copies the electronics while Eve and Peabody search.

Eve tells Eldina the brutal the brutal truth. She doesn’t owe rent, which you were talking about before. And his and yeah, and he’s been using her income to pay all this stuff. And and her lawyer is going to have a field day with this. And this is maybe one of the I feel like this happened before in my in my like reading of the series.

AJ (01:01:32.213)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:01:54.082)
But a small part of me is like, I would love a little paragraph about how that shit goes down. Right? Like I just, I just want to see this woman get everything she fucking deserves because she has been dealing with this shit forever.

AJ (01:02:01.898)
Yeah. Yeah.

AJ (01:02:13.772)
Or like, you know, Ror going in and making sure that the, the, all of the paperwork is so solid that she like completely owns everything. That’s kind of a lot of what you want sometimes. Yeah.

Tara (01:02:25.131)
right?

Yeah, this poor woman. So McNabb has a day to dump and it’s the roadmap that Cohen meets with Jones monthly, he moves to Legals, and they split profits. Then the product started shifting and Cohen picked up a newer client, Bang 2, involved in sex trade and Legals, and Eve clocks it as internal gang conflict undermining Jones.

And this is from the book. How much do we care about him doing time in some white collar cage for the tax shit? That’s the feds worry, but we use it as a hammer on the murders. squeeze in with the taxes, the fraud, following Peabody nodded and changed to a quick satisfied shuffle. Then dangle a deal, maybe if he flips on the rest. Right. We use a deal. The deal of one, like the candy at the end of the stick.

It’s a carrot at the end of the stick. Who the hell wants a carrot when there’s candy?

AJ (01:03:31.726)
Well, she’s right there, you know.

Tara (01:03:35.242)
Yeah, that’s so fair. Yeah. So they have the Cohen interview and he whines, he plays the victim and he tries bribery really, really bad. He is so fucking bad at this. He tries to do his lawyer thing to Eve and Eve is basically threatening him to send him to psych eval if he keeps not understanding his rights, like, quote unquote,

AJ (01:03:48.714)
Yeah, he’s really bad at it. Yeah.

AJ (01:04:01.742)
You have a kid she cast him several times.

Tara (01:04:04.352)
because he’s like, I don’t know. Yeah. She’s like, do you understand your rights? And he doesn’t. Yeah. So then she hits him with Rico. yes. She hits him with Rico and he panics. He’s so stupid. I hate him. He was like, he was, I was like, he’s up there with those people that you’re like, I just want to see so many not good things happen for you.

AJ (01:04:15.724)
Rico Charges.

AJ (01:04:23.38)
Hahaha

Tara (01:04:35.512)
And then very aims is found dead in Chinatown, which he was expecting at least him to be dead And he was dumped behind fan hose family restaurant clearly meant to provoke the Dragons Eve tries to get fan to see if he’s being baited into a turf war Again these guys are fucking idiots So Rio brings in a friend from the past agent Teasdale

AJ (01:04:41.441)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:04:57.538)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:05:05.342)
from, she’s from Homeland, right?

AJ (01:05:08.288)
Yeah. Or… Yeah.

Tara (01:05:10.102)
She was from Homeland, now she’s with the FBI. Yeah. And they negotiate with Cohen and he signs a conditional, what is that? The WITSEC, I don’t know what that stands for. Yeah. I know that means something and I’m bad at acronyms. Yeah, but he assigns this agreement and basically saying if he tells the truth and it leads him to arrest, he can, you know, have this deal.

AJ (01:05:22.51)
witness security or witness, yeah.

Tara (01:05:39.276)
But Eve knows he’s lying about who ordered the murders, so this is all good for them. Eve sets up the two-pronged takedown of the Bangers headquarters with the Dragons and Strong leading the team. so, yeah, Eve is going to do the takedown. She and her team are going to be at Bangers HQ, and she has Strong leading the team that takes down the Dragons, basically.

So this is from the book. Baxter Stroll did next. True Hearts letting his mom know will be late for dinner. Seriously, he added when he frowned. His mom invited me over for a home cooked. I love that. I love it. They go. So cute. So cute. I know. I was like, Oh, whose mom wants to me dinner? Luckily, I have friends that are good cooks. I’m not. And then later for the book.

AJ (01:06:21.174)
Yep.

Tara (01:06:36.226)
Can you get me ears in that top room? Eve asked Rourke. Working on it, Rourke mumbled. Filter and some soundproofing, my guess is my guess. Reinforced doors and walls, I’d wager. Vitz coming through, give us a boost here, Ian. Given her all she’s got, Ketten. McNav said in a thick burr and made Rourke laugh. Star Trek, Peabody murmured. McNav’s total on it. Star Trek, that was great. was good times.

AJ (01:07:00.982)
Yeah, that was a funny moment.

Tara (01:07:09.302)
I just want to say that…

uh, uh, Nora put a lot of like tech speak into this. And I really, really love how I feel like she does a really good job of creating that tech speak. As a non-tech person, maybe, maybe people who are like more techie or like it’s actually annoying or I hate it, but I like it. I think it’s fun. I don’t know. I think they’re fun.

AJ (01:07:17.783)
Yes.

AJ (01:07:26.435)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:07:33.838)
Yeah. Well, and we also, so what I didn’t put in here was we also have a character that we never meet again, who was really fun. What was her name, though?

Tara (01:07:55.313)
the officer, the EDD, Marley.

AJ (01:07:57.358)
Yeah.

That’s right.

Tara (01:08:01.482)
Marley the one who, what did she call work dream cake?

AJ (01:08:07.244)
Yeah, we never get her again after this.

Tara (01:08:14.424)
me sad. Yeah, I liked her too. It makes me sad.

AJ (01:08:19.124)
It says Marley noticed looked about 12 with girly ringlets raven black hair tipped with Peabody pink and so she’s describing her and Marley’s talking like bebopping McNabber she blew out a purple bubble snapped it back

Got them some filters, must be flush, gonna zap them. So, and then yeah, she says to Roar.

AJ (01:09:00.536)
Take a mo, ears up dream cake, Rourke smiled at Marley with obvious delight. Just about, decent filters but not prime. Nope, no primo. So obviously Rourke really likes Marley, cause later on he’s saying like, well, when they’re back at Central, I’m gonna go and work some more with my new friend Marley. So.

Tara (01:09:29.032)
it. Yeah, I love it.

AJ (01:09:29.646)
And then later on after that, when they’re home, Eve tries to call him a dream cake and he says, you can’t use that. That’s taken. It’s only for her. So.

Tara (01:09:35.544)
Yeah, only for her. She sure tried. So yeah, so the bangers raid goes full chaos. 25 people inside. The coop talk is caught on audio. There’s a battering ram entry, someone throws a homemade boomer and Eve literally catches it and throws it back. Good reflexes Eve.

AJ (01:10:00.184)
That’s right.

Tara (01:10:00.932)
fights Tank and gets banged up. is this like giant woman who’s a bitch. Jones tries to kill her with a full power stunner aimed at her heart, but the magic coat saves the day and Eve drops him. Hell yeah, magic coat. They catch the finger snapping kid, Snapper, and Rourke is like, I regret only punching him once. yes, because he… isn’t he the one who tries to boost the van and Rourke and Marley take him out? And Rourke is like…

AJ (01:10:06.175)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

AJ (01:10:14.424)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:10:22.062)
hahahaha

AJ (01:10:27.254)
Yeah. Yeah.

Tara (01:10:30.072)
Punching this guy. Peabody gets banged up too. She’s pulled down the stairs by a naked dude mid-sex because of course, but she’s okay.

AJ (01:10:31.703)
Right.

AJ (01:10:40.13)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:10:43.37)
Fuck you guys. then Eve spots Rochelle’s bracelet on a woman being loaded loaded into a wagon and basically threatens her into telling where it came from. And she told her told her that she traded it from a new banger named Ticker for sex. Evidence has been secured. They find. Yeah, was Tick. Not Ticker. Yeah. What? Tick.

AJ (01:10:44.521)
hahahaha

AJ (01:11:02.328)
Tick.

AJ (01:11:07.072)
Yeah. No, no, Ticker is this guy’s name, but, strong Lila Strong’s boyfriend’s name was Tick.

Tara (01:11:13.608)
yes, that was his name! His tick, yes! I just remember him being a big guy and that he had the little dog.

AJ (01:11:18.115)
Yeah.

And he seemed sweet. And he seemed great. So I don’t know why she’s, you know, it’s sometimes when there’s, well, or sometimes when there’s like a major thing that happens and she like major thing that happened and she got banged up pretty bad and all of this, it changes people. And then sometimes it’s like just too much trauma. They can’t take it. So maybe, I don’t know.

Tara (01:11:24.12)
He did. Maybe they just weren’t compatible.

Tara (01:11:41.388)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:11:47.458)
Yeah.

It’s So they find Jones hidden D &C stash behind a fake wall. The keypad equals slice. Very, very smart. Very smart assholes. Idiots.

AJ (01:12:05.236)
Yeah. Cause they’re like, what is the keypad? What is, what is the, you number here? And Rorik is like rattles off the number and it’s basically slice his name. People really are dumb. The amount of people having worked for the safe company.

Tara (01:12:13.048)
They’re so fucking dumb.

Tara (01:12:19.264)
So dumb.

AJ (01:12:25.39)
who a lot of their saves and a lot of their locks were electronic with a keypad. The number of people, because you know those come pre-programmed and they’re usually one, two, three, four, five, six. The number people that never change that on their saves is you would be shocked at the number of people that are like, yeah, I just one, two, three, four, five, six. okay. Sure.

Tara (01:12:54.05)
Sure.

AJ (01:12:54.806)
And then, I confounded my boss because my boss was a boomer. Okay. Older boomer. And, I had, I had a safe that they had put in my office because I had all the photo equipment and I came up with a very clever, a very clever, code and it was,

Tara (01:13:14.476)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:13:27.345)
867530, which of course is Jenny’s number. And it was so funny because like you could tell that there was a total divide between older boomers and Gen Xers, you know, in that office. And you could tell it by somebody coming into the office, hey, I need to get something out of your safe. What’s the combo? And I would say 867530 and they would immediately go, ah, and that was a Gen Xer.

Tara (01:13:29.312)
Yes.

Tara (01:13:40.593)
yeah.

AJ (01:13:54.688)
or there was my boss who never could remember the number. What is the code to this again? 8-6-7-5-3-0. Okay. Didn’t have any clue where it came from. Nothing. Could never remember it. He wanted every single, he wanted every single code in that, cause you know, there were safes everywhere in that place. He wanted every single code to be his birthday because that’s the only thing he can remember.

Tara (01:14:07.476)
no, that makes me sad.

Tara (01:14:15.35)
Well, yeah.

Tara (01:14:20.824)
My god, this guy was a winner.

AJ (01:14:21.486)
I was like, nope, my code is 8610530. Sorry.

Tara (01:14:28.6)
What’s going on up there?

AJ (01:14:29.102)
There’s all kinds of fun track races going on right outside my door every day. So anyway.

Tara (01:14:34.434)
It’s always something.

Tara (01:14:41.016)
That sounds right. So they find the stash. There’s a shielded room with fake ID set up, illegals, cash, weapons, jewelry. We are taking these assholes down. Which I want to say, if we were aware of the existence of this gang all of this time,

AJ (01:14:58.697)
Every single one of them. Yep.

Tara (01:15:11.508)
Why was this not something that we did before? Like, why did… Because they’re taking down Fan Ho and all the dragons and they did virtually nothing related to this case and they get taken down. So I don’t know what it is that has to happen for us to just go, let’s do a big take down of a gang. This is a genuine question. I just don’t know.

AJ (01:15:16.728)
So that, yeah.

AJ (01:15:36.632)
Yeah, hang on just one sec.

AJ (01:15:43.594)
Let’s see.

Where is it?

AJ (01:15:51.598)
Because I know they talk about it.

Because after that happened, they talk about it and Rourke asks her why she’s sad.

Tara (01:15:56.025)
Okay.

AJ (01:16:04.792)
Do remember that?

Tara (01:16:06.251)
Yes.

AJ (01:16:07.726)
And she says, we broke the backs of the bangers at least because they’re stupid sloppy, poorly run, blah, blah.

I think… you think this says…

AJ (01:16:29.346)
and

Hang on, let me find it.

AJ (01:16:44.738)
Basically, she’s talking about how they could have done it sooner. But because they didn’t do it sooner, people are dead.

Tara (01:16:51.937)
Okay.

AJ (01:16:58.913)
and that makes her sad.

Tara (01:17:02.752)
Okay, I do remember that part.

AJ (01:17:08.495)
AJ (01:17:13.022)
But I can’t find the actual quote, but yeah. She’s basically like, what good is the system if it doesn’t work to save people before all of this happens? You know?

Tara (01:17:27.54)
Yeah, could you remember that?

AJ (01:17:28.92)
The system failed him, we failed him.

Tara (01:17:36.086)
Yeah, that’s why I was like, did I miss something other than? OK, so I do remember that. Thank you for so long. These books are so long. I love them. But I’m like, I don’t remember, you know, you read these and you’re like, I don’t remember everything.

AJ (01:17:47.599)
Hahaha

AJ (01:17:54.541)
Right.

Tara (01:17:56.699)
But yeah, mean is sad. I’m with Eve on that, you know?

AJ (01:18:01.677)
Right.

Tara (01:18:05.752)
So anyway, they are back at Central and he meets pizza in our office and EDD is processing everything and Officer Shelby confirms the IDs of Snapper and Ticker. Snapper is Denby Washington. He’s the one that had Rochelle’s earrings and Lyle’s earbuds. And Ticker is Burke Chesterfield, which is a hell of a name.

AJ (01:18:32.82)
Yep.

Tara (01:18:33.944)
And he had Lyle’s shoes and Rochelle’s brooch. So Eve calls Nadine with the coordinated NYPSDE-FBI line and asks to sort of prep Lyle’s redemption story, but to hold CI status until after interviews. So because that would be bad. And then Eve is wrecked emotionally because Lyle beat the odds and did everything right and still got killed.

AJ (01:18:56.171)
Right.

Tara (01:19:03.728)
and Rourke reminds her the system did help Lyle and now they’ll make the living perpetrators pay, which is nice to hear, but it’s still sad what happened with Lyle. I was pretty sad the whole book about Lyle too.

AJ (01:19:18.124)
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Tara (01:19:21.016)
So yeah.

AJ (01:19:22.975)
And, you know.

AJ (01:19:27.566)
What was I gonna say? I had a point to make here.

Tara (01:19:33.72)
It’s just too much my fault.

AJ (01:19:35.214)
You

Tara (01:19:38.092)
Might not have been, but let’s see what it is.

AJ (01:19:39.146)
I was going to say something.

AJ (01:19:48.426)
and it was that, this is kind of another, example of like Eve doing good deeds, which we keep saying we’re going to do a episode about, and we’re going to have to do that because yeah, she does. She tells Nadine like, I want you not just to tell this story of this takedown of this gang, but to use it as a way to get his story out there.

Tara (01:20:00.596)
yes.

AJ (01:20:14.472)
He got away from this gang, he got clean, he was turning his life around and all of that. And I want you to dig out all the details and I want you to do personally do like a feel good story about him, you know, as a memorial to him or whatever. But yeah, to to kind of like show like this, this guy wasn’t one of them. This guy really did kind of get out of that life and turned his life around.

And I just thought that was really nice of Eve to do, you know, culminating and say like, I want you to do a story on this.

Tara (01:20:52.056)
because Eve is a good person even though people don’t always think so.

AJ (01:20:56.663)
Exactly.

Okay, so this is the last, do want me to read the last part?

Tara (01:21:01.174)
I like it. Do you me to keep going? You can go for it. Read all the last part.

AJ (01:21:07.574)
So this is day six. Eve’s plan is to start with Snapper because he’ll crack first and then ticker then Jorgensen or Jorgensen. How do we say that? Jorgensen. Susan Erickson says Jorgensen. But she also said Gyro. We know that’s… We talked about that in another show.

Tara (01:21:17.376)
I think, yeah, Susan said Jorgensen.

Tara (01:21:32.14)
Yeah, mean, gyro is, I think, acceptable. It was what she said, yes, zero. Gyro is acceptable. Gyro is not. Yes, that’s what everyone who’s not Greek or trying to be pretentious uses.

AJ (01:21:35.47)
He said Jiro. She said Jiro. That’s a later book. Is Jiro really acceptable though?

AJ (01:21:51.998)
I said I say Euro because that’s the correct it’s like it’s not a pretentious thing to say. It’s not pretentious for me to say burrito or taco.

Tara (01:21:56.075)
It is correct. No, it’s not. No, but I think people have called them gyros long enough that gyro I would not have been annoyed with. But gyro is not right. I call it a gyro. Gyros is not right. But you know what? Everything is… Yeah, maybe that’s how they say it in… Yeah. Yeah, because she’s perfect. So…

AJ (01:22:09.228)
Well, I mean, yes. Jiro seems not right.

AJ (01:22:21.23)
We’re just gonna give Susan a pass on that because probably there’s gonna be people in the, the, we review the reviews that aren’t gonna give her a pass and that’s fine. We’ll talk about those at that time, if that comes up. Also, this is fun. Rorke shows her the Nebraska farm. This is in the morning when they get up and they’re getting ready for the day. He’s like, look at this and shows her pictures of this beautiful like farmhouse and she’s like, what the hell is that?

Tara (01:22:31.32)
fun.

Tara (01:22:40.735)
Yes!

AJ (01:22:49.42)
He’s like, that’s your Nebraska farm. And I she’s like, you’re insane. Spending that much money to rehab that house. Cause he said it was a, it was, you know, I had to outlay a lot of money to get this to look the way it looks. And she’s like, you’re insane. And he’s like, am I? Because we already have, it’s not even finished and we already have some offers of 20 % above what I have outlaid. So am I insane?

Tara (01:23:07.158)
Why am I?

Tara (01:23:17.794)
So also like Eve, you should know better, it’s work.

AJ (01:23:21.774)
Right. Then Gala head steals breakfast like a tiny furry criminal, which is, yeah. Yeah. And Eve stops at Jacko’s and brings the team cinnamon buns and Danish.

Tara (01:23:33.194)
our favorite furry criminal, Galahad.

Tara (01:23:43.768)
She’s a queen.

AJ (01:23:44.992)
She is a queen, then everybody comes into the room like, Rork’s the man. He was like, wait a minute. I got the buns, I’m the man.

Tara (01:23:51.587)
She’s like, what the fuck? It was me. I did it.

AJ (01:23:58.87)
And then after that, everybody that comes in says, Rorke’s the man, Jenkinson’s like, Ix-nay on the orc ray.

Tara (01:24:06.392)
He was like, oh, I’ll never be able to un-code your secret code.

AJ (01:24:11.726)
Uenie announces there’s a media conference later with Tybaltisdale, Rio Dallas, Peabody Strong Feet.

Tara (01:24:22.104)
party is what that is. That’s not a media conference.

AJ (01:24:23.831)
Yeah.

they interview snapper, Peabody tries good cops, snapper tries police brutality, I was warning people, cops planted illegals. Eve shreds that he eventually confesses but a bolt ordered Lyle’s murder because Lyle had no loyalty. Duff was killed because she was whining. Ames was killed for being dumb, lazy and they were trying to spark a war because slice wouldn’t take care of the dragons.

Eve books him on Eve books him for three first-degree murders

Then they move on to ticker ticker is painfully dumb and tries to lie then Eve Then gets boxed in by Prince stolen property Yolanda statement about the bracelet for sex trade and DNA Plus the coke tube trick They gave him a coke and he drank it and then they got his DNA off it very classic police interrogation weapon

Tara (01:25:25.976)
Don’t ever drink something while you’re getting interrogated by the police if you’re guilty. They’ll figure out another way, but I’m trying to help.

AJ (01:25:39.926)
So eventually he says he was high and Bolt said they gotta do it. Eve updates Rochelle and crack two killers in custody a third is dead stolen items recovered illegals were staged and Lyle wasn’t using again she tells Rochelle that Lyle didn’t just beat the odds he smashed them. So see more of Eve being a good person in this book.

Tara (01:26:03.213)
he did.

AJ (01:26:06.67)
They interviewed Jorgensen, aka Bolt. Bolt comes in with a PD trying to negotiate like he wasn’t there. Eve says, yeah, because he orders murders and then he doesn’t do them. Snapper and Ticker already rolled, so Bolt tries to spin it as they came to me saying dragons killed fists and I only drove, you know, to get rid of the body, essentially.

And Eve’s like, that still makes them complicit.

Tara (01:26:36.76)
Fucking idiot. God, he’s so fucking stupid.

AJ (01:26:40.514)
But also they’ve got security cam footage, diner witnesses, prints and blood on his cousin’s van, who the bar of that van, plus all the confessions. Boltz admits the motive. He hated that Slice let Lyle walk away like he was better and protected him. Boltz wanted to humiliate Slice and seize power. Cohen insisted the OD staging to make Slice look weak.

Bolt thought nobody would flip on him, but he was wrong. Eve sends everything to Teasdale so Cohen can be crushed properly. We love that for him. Eve gives Nadine the green light on everything except Lyle’s CI status. Mira says observing the interviews has been an education and she thinks she’s gonna write a paper.

Tara (01:27:34.262)
It would be a fascinating paper.

AJ (01:27:36.109)
Right?

Then they question Jones. Jones denies the murders but confesses to basically every other crime under the sun because I run the bangers bitch. great because Eve then attacks, then stacks charges like a Jenga tower. Coercion, minors, sex trade, intimidation, extortion, attempted murder of a cop, all of it. Eve is still sad after gutting two gangs but Rourke takes her to Andidan.

Tara (01:27:55.05)
Idiot.

AJ (01:28:08.398)
shows her what it’s becoming and then brings it to the roof garden memorial for the girls, including the one that they didn’t know who it was and they just called her angel. And that finally lifts the weight a bit because it’s not just justice after the fact, it’s building something that might stop the next tragedy.

AJ (01:28:34.318)
And that is the end of the book.

Tara (01:28:38.049)
Yeah.

I enjoyed the book. I actually like this was a book where I enjoyed reading the interviews because I just I kind of love when the interviews I kind of love the interviews like I do I and I just I laughed a lot of these interviews I rolled my eyes I’m like my god I could just like Eve imagining Eve being like

AJ (01:28:42.625)
Yeah.

AJ (01:28:57.516)
Yeah.

AJ (01:29:03.352)
Yeah.

Tara (01:29:11.954)
Why can’t I just sit in here and go, you’re a fucking idiot. We know you did this. You know, like she has to sit through it all. I don’t know. I just I did. liked this book more than I thought I did. I don’t know where it falls on the scale, but I do like it.

AJ (01:29:15.054)
All right.

AJ (01:29:26.179)
Yeah.

AJ (01:29:30.902)
That happens a lot. I just didn’t remember it that much at all. I remembered certain things about it, but yeah.

Tara (01:29:34.328)
I didn’t either. I didn’t either. Well, and when I’m when I started reading it, I was like, oh, this is this is, you know, when we met Rochelle, I was like, oh, this is the book where we Rochelle and her brother is killed. And I remember that he had been in a gang and they had faked an OD on him. And that was as much as I remembered. So.

AJ (01:29:48.846)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:29:54.988)
Right. Yeah.

so okay, accommodations. know, You know, yeah, Lyle deserves accommodation. Eve kind of gives him accommodation via Nadine.

Tara (01:30:06.956)
Lyle.

Tara (01:30:11.82)
Lyle. That is hard. She really does. She really does. And you know, like I, I know that that is difficult. That is such a difficult thing to overcome. So yeah.

AJ (01:30:26.104)
Yeah.

AJ (01:30:33.144)
Yep.

I’m going to give mine to Lila strong because she was a rock star in this one.

Tara (01:30:45.495)
Yeah.

AJ (01:30:47.662)
She gave them a lot of information. She was the one that recruited Lyle into being a CI, so they found out a lot about the gang because of that. You know, she had a lot of information on the gangs just because she had done that and, which makes Lyle a posthumous, you know, rock star.

Tara (01:30:50.008)
She did.

AJ (01:31:13.578)
But yeah, and then she led the team that took down the dragons. So I think she did a great job in this book.

Tara (01:31:23.498)
I also just want to throw out like a, I don’t know, I don’t want to call it a commendation, but I’m always like, there’s a person who needs to be recognized for being awesome, and that’s Eldina.

AJ (01:31:33.762)
huh. Yes. She deserves everything she gets. And I hope, like I said, that they figure out a way to really solidify her owner, her owner status of all of those properties so that she can have all of those and be able to sell them and make money. Or keep them and make money.

Tara (01:31:53.122)
Yes, she deserves that. Right, whatever she wants to do with them, it’s hers. Yeah.

AJ (01:31:58.708)
Right. Exactly. And I did, I just, I liked how they got, they questioned her and she was like, I don’t, I didn’t know what I was signing. He just said to sign and he’s a lawyer. So I just figured he knew what he was doing. And when they left Rourke is like, I have to, I had to like stop myself from thinking about you signing our prenuptial contract and not ever looking at it. And he’s, she’s like, yeah, well, you know, I trusted you. So, know.

Tara (01:32:25.622)
Yeah. Well, sucks because Aldina also trusted him, but he wasn’t Rourke, and Rourke is great and he’s not. So.

AJ (01:32:31.446)
Right.

AJ (01:32:35.679)
Exactly.

Tara (01:32:39.99)
Yeah. I hated that guy. I really feel like I hated him more than any of the other guys.

AJ (01:32:40.0)
So… Okay. Yeah, he was the worst.

Yeah, actually, I think I think you’re right about that. He is the worst. He is he’s worse than any of these gangbangers. I mean, he didn’t murder people. So that was bad, you know, but still he was kind of in on it.

Tara (01:32:52.152)
I was like…

Tara (01:33:00.44)
Yeah, and I think, I think like, I’m sorry, you, you, the compliance of that, of all of that, because you’re a greedy, selfish person. Like, not that, not that I think being greedy and selfish is worse than wanting to, you know, murder your former gang members or start a war, but like, also like,

AJ (01:33:13.506)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:33:28.642)
Purposely hurting this person that you supposedly love that has put all that trust in you. Nah Fuck that guy

AJ (01:33:34.22)
Yeah. Yeah, fuck that guy. He’s the worst. But also like duping your girlfriend like that. That could have gone very, very wrong for her and he wouldn’t have cared at all. Yeah.

Tara (01:33:44.064)
Yes! Like, she loves you. Yeah, she loves you. You know she loves you. Ugh.

AJ (01:33:53.464)
Right.

All right, so should we do podcast business?

Tara (01:34:01.856)
Yes.

AJ (01:34:04.84)
do I have a gas business?

I don’t know that we got any particular.

AJ (01:34:19.374)
Okay, sorry. I don’t know that we got any particular emails or anything that we need to talk about.

or anything like that.

as, as we have already talked about, like giving myself extra jobs to do because, know, when I, so I started working on bringing all of our, transcripts into our website.

Tara (01:34:41.282)
Yeah.

you

Tara (01:34:51.383)
Yes.

AJ (01:34:53.542)
and that is something, I mean, not necessarily, it’s not necessarily going to help people. What am I trying to say? I don’t know that people are going to be like going to our website to look at transcripts.

Tara (01:35:17.324)
Sure.

AJ (01:35:18.604)
However, what I can do, what I have already done actually, is I have that chat GPT research tool that I created and that actually many people have used. So I’m very happy about that. But you know, there are holes because our timelines on the website or on the Wiki

Tara (01:35:29.965)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:35:46.156)
don’t necessarily talk about every single thing. And, we tend to elaborate when we’re doing a show like this, you know? And so, yeah. So my thought was I can tell that GPT to specifically go to the page that lists all of the transcripts and use that as a, as a way to look for information as a source for information.

Tara (01:35:49.73)
Right.

Tara (01:35:53.814)
We sure do.

Tara (01:36:12.8)
I love that. That’s so cool.

AJ (01:36:15.054)
And so I’ve put so far I’ve got maybe half a dozen of the transcripts in there and I already tried it. went into the. Well, it kind of is, you know, but it makes it really easy to do this the way I set it up. So it’s not that bad, but.

Tara (01:36:24.44)
That’s a lot of work.

AJ (01:36:38.318)
And so anyway, so I went to our, our GPT, the research GPT, and I asked it something that I figured that you could only know by going to our podcast and death website and going to this transcript archive and looking through transcripts. can’t remember what I asked it, but I, but specifically asked it, uh, for something like that. And, um, it went, it went here and gave me the answer from our transcript archive. So.

Tara (01:36:55.224)
Okay.

AJ (01:37:09.336)
There you go. So it’s, it worked. it’s, you know, I mean, I’m only six in, so I, but only like what almost 300 more to go. So it’s not, it’s not going to be a right away thing that you’re going to get. It won’t take me any time at all to do that. so yeah, slowly I’ll get it all done, you know, but I, I want it, what I am thinking to do is try to.

Tara (01:37:09.996)
That’s awesome. It worked. That’s all that matters.

Tara (01:37:23.116)
That’s all.

Not going to take you any time at all.

AJ (01:37:38.572)
get all of the book review transcripts in there. Because I think those will contain the most information that people looking for answers to a question will be able to find some information from our book review episodes. And then after that, I’ll start with the other. I want to put Susan’s transcripts in.

Tara (01:37:56.715)
yeah.

AJ (01:38:04.714)
stuff like that. I’ll go, we’ll slowly like fill it out as we go. But, so yeah, that’s something that, that I’m working on right now. So, yeah. So,

Tara (01:38:06.018)
Yeah.

Tara (01:38:14.264)
That’s amazing.

Tara (01:38:18.456)
Cause you know, again, it’s like, love him. No, not yet.

AJ (01:38:21.88)
Did you look at it?

Tara (01:38:27.817)
I love that you’re like, yeah, I want to have more things to do.

AJ (01:38:32.3)
Well, it is important that we have our transcripts up there. like I said, you know, when I had, think it was, can’t remember who it was that asked a question, maybe Beatrice, I can’t remember, and asked a question of the research tool and it came back with, can’t find that information.

Tara (01:38:36.556)
Yes.

Tara (01:38:45.464)
you

AJ (01:38:54.806)
And I knew that we had talked about that specific thing on one of our shows. And that’s why I was like, yeah, I need to get our transcript up on our website so that it can search those and find people answers. So, and then I talked to Dana, that’s one of the things we talked about when she messaged me and I said, I wish there was a government grant for people that are, you know, researching.

Tara (01:38:59.213)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:39:07.352)
Yeah.

AJ (01:39:21.74)
Nora Roberts books or researching in death books and doing making that information available. There should be, I want to be able to just do this and you know, not have to worry about a job, a regular job. I mean, right. So everybody, maybe I should start to go fund me for, know, if I, if there’s no government grant, everybody can just fund me to do this work.

Tara (01:39:25.858)
There should be, dammit.

Tara (01:39:36.605)
I think you should be able to have that.

AJ (01:39:50.988)
I don’t know. Anywho.

Tara (01:39:53.88)
It’s important that we have all of this. I think it’s important.

AJ (01:39:59.968)
It seems important, right? So, all right. So I guess that’s it for this episode of Podcasts in Death. as usual, we don’t know what we’re going to do next week, but we’ll figure it out. Week after that is probably, we review the reviews and then it’ll be right around the first part of

Tara (01:40:14.786)
Nope. Nope.

AJ (01:40:24.778)
March that we will talk about the brand new book, which I have finished reading. Tara has not finished reading it yet. She’s only on maybe chapter six. Anybody listen to this? Nine. she’s almost there. Couple of chapters away. anybody, know, I think a lot of the people that are listening to this have probably already read it, read the book.

Tara (01:40:29.024)
exciting.

So.

nine.

you

AJ (01:40:50.196)
Some people wait though until it’s re-released in softcover form. But without any spoilers at all, just going to, I’ve told Tara, like she said, chapter nine, just wait till you hit chapter 11, something significant is going to happen. Well, something significant is going to be hinted to. And I think when you read that chapter, you’re going to have an inkling of what is being hinted to.

Tara (01:41:00.76)
Woof.

AJ (01:41:19.854)
and it might just blow your mind. You never know. Or maybe you’ll be like, I was expecting this all along. And then it’ll be very anti-climactic. But I’m hoping that your reaction will be, I was blown away by what I think this is hinting to. I don’t know. We’ll see.

AJ (01:41:43.84)
Anyway, so I am I’m very excited to talk about this book because I the newest book, so in depth freaking loved it.

Tara (01:41:44.406)
I’m excited.

AJ (01:41:58.318)
freaking loved it. So that is really in like my top, at least in my top 20, maybe my top 10. So yeah, it’s a fantastic book.

Tara (01:42:01.944)
Can’t wait.

Tara (01:42:09.944)
AJ is basically here like making sure that I am at constant battle with the things I need to do because I just want to finish this book and I do not have the time to give the book that I want.

AJ (01:42:25.162)
You’ll you’ll figure it out. It’s okay. You’ll figure you’ll get the time you’re all you’re at at chapter nine. And so that’s probably farther than I thought you would get this early, to be honest with you. But it’s only because I’ve been talking, I’ve been really wanting to talk to you about this book. And you’re like, I can’t do it got too much stuff going on right now. Like, okay, but Susan was right, we’re not ready. And then you’re like, now I have to read the book.

Tara (01:42:50.072)
Hey.

AJ (01:42:55.38)
So I just can’t wait for that text message. Cause I know I’m going to get it very soon in this, within this next week, within this next week, I know I’m going to get the text message. So we’ll just, we’ll just wait and see. So, okay. I guess that’s it for this episode of podcasts and death. unless you have anything else to talk about Tara.

Tara (01:42:55.433)
Uhhh…

Tara (01:43:11.562)
AJ, you’re killing me.

killing me.

Tara (01:43:23.288)
I do not know

AJ (01:43:25.568)
Okay. so we want to thank you. wait, wait. If any of you have anything to say, want to tell us about anything or ask us any questions or anything like that, you know, you can do that by going to any of our social medias where we have a Facebook group. we’re on Instagram. We are on blue sky. I don’t check it that much, but, blue sky is something that I need to do more of with our.

account. now it’s saying add account. I got a new phone Tara and it’s logged me out of everything. I hate it. But I was telling Caitlin, I went, I went in to pay my bill, my phone bill. And I think I told you like, I got the thing that says like, you’re, can upgrade your phone if you want. You’re at that point. I wasn’t planning on upgrading my phone because why?

Tara (01:44:02.926)
that’s the worst.

AJ (01:44:23.542)
My phone was perfectly fine. And then it said, look, just look at, just look at the prices. You know how they do that on the website. Let’s just, just, just look at the prices. And then I looked at the prices and looked at if I got the new phone, what my bill would look like and found, found that my bill would be like $30 cheaper if I got the new phone.

Tara (01:44:23.597)
Right.

Tara (01:44:31.586)
Yeah.

Tara (01:44:47.416)
Okay. Nice.

AJ (01:44:47.95)
Yeah, it didn’t make sense to me either and I was like that can’t be right and they checked it and double-checked it and double-checked it and I was like No, my bill will be actually $30 less if I get this new phone So, okay, I guess I get the new phone like, you know $30 less per month is what I need right now. So Anyways But it logged me out of everything and it’s really annoying because I was gonna go see it check our blue sky and can’t do that right now. So

Tara (01:45:02.402)
I guess I need that. I need to do that.

Tara (01:45:08.223)
Right?

AJ (01:45:18.03)
Anyway, so yeah, uh, blue, we’re on blue sky. We’re not, we’re no longer on tick tock, but, you can also send us an email at show at podcast and def.com. You can call the number number is two zero five four seven six two seven five three. That spells out two zero five four work. Um, and you can leave a message on that line. You can also text us on that line too.

And go to our website, go to our contact us. And we have a little button there and use speak pipe to send us a message. We’ve got a lot of places where you can talk to us. So, you know, go ahead and we’re lonely. Apparently we’re lonely, but also we have another month before our 300th episode. And I still, I mean, if you want to tell me like your favorite moments, I’ve got a few people doing that.

Tara (01:45:57.304)
Yeah, we’re really just trying to get you to talk to us. So we’re giving you lots of options. No, right? No excuses.

AJ (01:46:16.11)
have done that already, send us messages telling us their favorite moments so I can put them in the 300th episode. What’s your favorite moment from episode 201 to 299?

Tara (01:46:27.928)
the last.

AJ (01:46:33.198)
So a of opportunities for favorite episodes. It really has been a lot. Yeah, you’re right. A lot has happened. And again, my cursor has stopped working. Anyway, so, but I guess, yeah, it’s charging and it doesn’t want to come back on other ghosts.

Tara (01:46:34.392)
There’s been a lot, obviously.

because a lot has happened, so.

Tara (01:46:47.689)
Ow.

AJ (01:46:59.756)
Anyway, so I guess that’s it for this episode of Podcasts in Deaf, unless you have anything else to say. Okay. So thank you for joining us on this episode of Podcasts in Deaf, and we’ll see you next week, Bye.

Tara (01:47:03.992)
Alright, I do not.

Tara (01:47:16.45)
