Roarke’s Haunted Getaway
What happens when Roarke buys a 300-year-old country estate with a history of mysterious deaths, unexplained disappearances, and a reputation for being haunted? Naturally, he invites Eve and all their […]
It’s time for another installment of our favorite exercise in questionable life choices: reading one-star reviews of books we love and then getting annoyed that people have opinions on the internet.
This week, AJ and Tara are reviewing the reviews of Immortal in Death, and apparently, the biggest problems with this book are that Eve keeps solving murders, Roarke keeps telling her he loves her, and Nora Roberts insists on following some sort of mysterious formula that involves… writing a crime novel.
The audacity.
We tackle reviewers who think Eve’s traumatic past means she shouldn’t be getting married, people who are deeply offended by Roarke’s sexual history, and one particularly insightful review that simply declares, “This book is a mess.”
Thank you, random internet stranger. Very helpful.
We also have some questions. How much sex does a book need to contain before it officially becomes a “sex book”? Why are people forcing themselves to continue reading a series they clearly don’t enjoy? And why does everyone seem so upset that Eve keeps ending up in the arms of the man she’s about to marry?
Fortunately, things get better as we move into the four- and five-star reviews, where we find plenty of love for Eve, Peabody, Mavis, and, of course, the incomparable Susan Ericksen.
Plus, in Podcast Business: We hear from listener Lisa, welcome longtime In Death fan Karen, and talk about revisiting Eve’s Good Deeds in a future episode. AJ also shares some updates about InDeath.net, including a new Google login option and a discussion thread for Fury in Death.
So join us for another episode of bad reviews, good reviews, questionable reading comprehension, and two podcast hosts who are apparently contractually obligated to keep reading this series.
Unlike the people leaving one-star reviews, we actually want to.
People gonna people.
