F*ck Off, You Privileged F*ck: We Review "Bonded" Part 2

Episode Number: 248
Season: 4
Publish Date: March 15, 2025 1:38am
Speakers: Tara Corkery and AJ Ryan

Books

Primary Book: Bonded in Death

Mentioned Books:

Topics & Highlights

Topics: Summerset, The Twelve, Urban Wars, Alice Dormer, and Marlena

Highlights:

Core themes and framing

Central theme discussed: The hosts repeatedly frame the latter portion of the story around trust—who earns it, who violates it, and how it functions inside the NYPSD and within Eve and Roarke’s partnership.

Major plot beats covered

Somerset’s pivotal praise of Eve: The discussion emphasizes Somerset’s statement that Eve embodies justice, followed by a notable “group commitment” moment where key characters verbally align around protecting Eve/Roarke and stopping Potter.

Suspicious communications thread: The hosts flag a “sus” cousin-related link/contact as an early warning sign and treat it as an intentional setup by the antagonist.

Disguise/identity mechanics explained: Roarke’s explanation of the young-face disguise is highlighted as a rare, detailed breakdown of how disguise tech works (materials/process, limitations, cost, discomfort, and time constraints).

Chez Robert bomb discovery: A major sequence discussed is Eve and Roarke locating and disabling a bomb at Chez Robert while taking steps to document legality (warrant/recording). The conversation includes a direct rebuttal to the recurring fandom criticism that “Eve breaks the law.”

Command consequences: Whitney’s reprimand is treated as a meaningful moment of procedural accountability—recognizing Eve’s results while reinforcing chain-of-command boundaries.

Forensic plausibility sidebar: The hosts detour into whether DNA could be recovered after cremation, concluding it’s difficult but not impossible, and noting the series’ future-setting flexibility.

Action escalation and turning points

Eve is shot/grazed during the operation: A key turning point discussed is Eve’s decision to check the building, followed by Potter firing; the thinshield mitigates damage but she is still injured. The “Dallas, you’re bleeding” line becomes a recurring comedic beat.

Feeney’s concern expressed indirectly: Feeney’s reaction is singled out as an example of him showing care through humor rather than overt emotion.

Kidnapping stakes increase: The antagonist escalates to kidnapping Devin, which the hosts treat as a moral line-crossing that sharply heightens urgency and emotional response.

Character-driven moments

Somerset as the intended leverage point: The hosts focus on Somerset attempting to volunteer as the trade, and discuss why Potter waited to deploy this tactic—because it targets Somerset’s sense of responsibility and attachment.

Team cohesion spotlight: The rescue/takedown sequence is discussed as a “team win,” particularly crediting coordinated roles across the unit (including EDD and tech support).

Devin’s bond with Peabody: Devin connecting quickly and strongly with Peabody is treated as a standout emotional payoff and a reinforcement of Peabody’s character strengths.

Resolution and aftermath

Arrest with a Roarke moment: The takedown concludes with Potter in custody and a brief, physical Roarke “response” moment during the arrest sequence; the hosts also reference Jenkinson’s tie beat as part of the show’s ongoing humor.

Interrogation as a coordinated effort: The interrogation is presented as a structured, multi-person pressure sequence (Eve/Peabody/Mira/Rio), with the antagonist’s misogyny explicitly called out and neutralized by the team dynamic. Peabody’s “bad Peabody” energy is celebrated.

Legal endgame: extradition defeated: The hosts highlight the reveal that Potter’s attempt to evade consequences via extradition is shut down by the Omega/off-planet maximum confinement outcome.

“Bear witness” closure: The discussion treats the Twelve’s “bear witness” moment and Harry’s final gesture as a strong closing button tied to the Urban Wars thread.

Somerset gratitude scene: A quieter payoff is Somerset thanking Eve regarding Alice, framed as meaningful progress in their relationship.

Domestic cooldown ending: The ending tone is described as earned decompression—team pride, exhaustion, and a simple home routine (food and sleep) functioning as the emotional landing.

Our last episode is probably going to be just over two hours, like maybe two hours and ten minutes.

Tara (00:09.632)
my gosh.

AJ (00:12.204)
I mean, it’s a lot. So.

Tara (00:15.058)
Yeah?

AJ (00:18.388)
Okay, so, and this will be #248.

So, all right, you have the document, right? Okay.

Tara (00:33.319)
Yeah, I just opened it.

AJ (00:37.324)
All right, then here we go. Hey, everyone, welcome once again to podcast in depth, the weekly podcast where we discuss the in depth series of books by JD Rob, I am AJ.

Tara (00:39.795)
Oof, let’s do it.

Tara (00:52.571)
Terra.

AJ (00:53.999)
And this is episode 248 of Podcast in Deaf. And in this episode, this is our part two of Bonded in Deaf.

Tara (01:05.149)
Yep.

AJ (01:06.028)
because this book is just jam-packed full of stuff.

Tara (01:12.743)
Good stuff.

AJ (01:13.934)
It’s all good, you know, but it’s just a lot. yeah, if you listened to last week’s episode, you know that we got to chapter 12. And chapter 12 ended up…

AJ (01:39.03)
I think Eve had just got finished questioning all of the remaining members of the 12. Right.

Tara (01:46.46)
Yes.

Tara (01:51.219)
So I was bringing up my notes. If you listened to the last episode, you know that I had Susan read to me this whole book. And every now and again, I had something to say. So I would have her take a breath. Then I would record what I had to say on a voice to text. So I’m going to read those notes before we do the chapter.

AJ (01:58.638)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (02:08.205)
Right here.

AJ (02:13.634)
Right. So, do you want to do Chapter 13, read your notes first? Do you have notes for Chapter 13? Okay. Great.

Tara (02:19.539)
Yes, I do. I do have chapters, chapter 13 notes. So we’re starting on chapter 13, remember, and so my notes for chapter 13.

AJ (02:26.766)
And also I should repeat, sorry, I should repeat that our theme is trust.

Tara (02:30.141)
No.

Trust. Yes.

AJ (02:35.251)
I’m sure everybody remembers everything from last week, but just in case our theme is trust.

Tara (02:42.259)
Just in case, we recorded the first half of this yesterday, so.

AJ (02:46.348)
Yeah, actually, so it’s a week for you. It’s only, you know, a day for just because of schedules and things like that. So through the magic of podcasting, you are getting this a week later when we are recording it a day later.

Tara (02:49.843)
Yeah, I know everyone is shocked to hear that my schedule has invaded our.

Tara (03:08.243)
So, Chapter 13, my notes. So, absolutely no thanks on the mushy peas.

AJ (03:17.358)
Same.

Tara (03:21.061)
I tried them. I tried them in London. They were fine, but I was like, I’m not going to eat this. I don’t, I don’t care for it. But I have to add on in addition to that Yorkshire pudding.

AJ (03:36.142)
Okay.

Tara (03:36.379)
I, I, it just, okay. It existed. Again, these are two things that like, I would eat them if, if someone were to be like, this is all we have. I would be like, okay, sure. and there are foods that were, if this is all we have, I’m going to like cry about it. I’m at least not going to cry over these two foods, but, not, not really a big fan of either of them. yes. And then also,

AJ (03:41.646)
It existed. It was there.

AJ (03:50.766)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (04:01.568)
Okay.

Tara (04:07.059)
Let’s see. more notes. This link call is sus.

AJ (04:12.736)
Right? Well they figured that out from the very beginning.

Tara (04:13.587)
And they figured that out, but like the link happened and I was just like, this link all is sus. And then also, my last note for this chapter. Okay, how does Iris’ cousin not recognize Rourke? Doesn’t everyone know who Rourke is?

AJ (04:18.626)
Pretty, pretty.

hahahaha

AJ (04:34.946)
You would think, she sounded kind of a little bit like a dummy dum-dum.

Tara (04:39.129)
Yeah, she did. It’s just like, but a lot of Dummy Dum Dums recognize Eve. So I was like, OK, it’s just very convenient. She didn’t recognize work, which is good. It’s very convenient. say in a it’s a good thing because the cousin might have fucked it all up. Yeah. But but anyway, those are my notes from Chapter 13. And so here we go, Chapter 13.

AJ (04:46.957)
Yeah.

AJ (04:55.874)
Well, you know, he’s new money, so…

Alright. Yeah.

Tara (05:07.641)
Eve sends Peabody home and she and Rourke have dinner. From the book. Somerset twisted his naked dick and threatened to break it. That’s pretty fucking personal. Now Rourke blinked. That’s… I can’t quite think of the word. Scary Rourke tactics. Maybe you got some of that from him. Anyway, he didn’t mention that in his initial interview. I got it out of him today. Potter put moves on Alice. Alice handled it and Somerset polished it off.

If you have more revelations like that, I think we should sit down. I’ll get the meal. Then Rourke tells Eve that he’s been in touch with Feeney and he got an update on the status of the investigation. From the book, Feeney’s man was nearly there. He’s more than pretty good himself. He determined it wasn’t flesh. What wasn’t? The driver. And I’m convinced along with you, along with you, it was Potter. The face, the back of the hands, hands will show age.

a mask, but more than a mask, a process. Time-consuming, expensive, meticulous process. The material, a silicone base, has to be blended and formed, thinned and shaped. Measurements must be exact. The machine required to do this, as well as the tinting, is easily 10,000. The mask is then carefully applied, smoothed, adjusted. If all this is done correctly, painstakingly, it can look quite real for a limited amount of time.

It doesn’t breathe, he explained. They’ve yet to formulate a material that does, and it won’t feel like skin. While it has the appearance, once you magnify and begin to analyze, it doesn’t. It could change his face, take the years off. It could, yes, for three or four hours, five at the very most. After two, discomfort would be an issue. Then Eve updates Rourke on what they’ve learned about Potter.

Downstairs, the remaining members of the 12 also are having dinner. Drosky says that he’s grateful to Eve for allowing him to come back and Somerset tells him, I would cracked as a bitch. And then Somerset says, she’s for justice. It runs through her veins like blood. Whatever conflict she deals with, justice will always win. Somerset shook his head. She knows you need to be here. And then.

AJ (07:11.406)
Allegedly. Damn you ought to

Tara (07:31.101)
They decide that once this is all over, they’ll need to meet again, maybe once a year. After dinner, Iris’s phone signaled. It was her cousin, Darlena Corning. Somerset tells her to block video. The call is extremely suspicious. Darlie wants to meet her the next day at Chez Robert and wants her to bring Ivana and Marjorie. They decide to let Eve know. Eve decides to go check up on Darlie. She and Rourke

take one of his fancy cars and drive to Darlie’s apartment building. Once there, Eve tells her and her husband Roger that there’s been an accident involving a car of the same make and model as theirs. Eve also asks her if she’s used her link this evening and Darlie tells them she’s misplaced her link while she was at lunch. So much sus, so sus. I love the moment though where she and Rorke are in her office and then suddenly she just hears all of them coming up the stairs.

AJ (08:19.384)
So, Super Sus.

AJ (08:30.294)
Yeah.

Tara (08:31.955)
And I, it’s, mean, obviously the whole book, Somerset is just so like, you know, we have to do it Eve’s way. Like we can’t just like run off and do our own thing. and it’s, it’s so nice when he like talks about her this way and yeah.

AJ (08:47.917)
Right.

AJ (08:53.004)
Yeah.

Tara (08:57.595)
So I have a question. And maybe I should be asking this question later, but it’s coming to my brain now. So maybe you want to put this in your back pocket if it’s not the right time. But does at the end of the book, does you say anything to Ivan Drosky about like he still can’t ever come back to the United States?

AJ (08:57.774)
Okay. Yeah.

AJ (09:11.598)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (09:24.398)
No.

Tara (09:26.053)
Okay, I don’t recall, didn’t recall anything along those lines because you know…

AJ (09:30.914)
That would ruin a beautiful moment, Tara, for Eve to be… Okay, and by the way, you can’t come back. Seriously, this time.

Tara (09:36.177)
Well, but obviously, I don’t want her to say that. like, but like it felt like something that they were addressing so much in the book. And then at the end of the book, there was like, so is he allowed to come back? Like, that’s what my brain was doing. I’m like, is he allowed? Is he cool now? Like, what what do we do about that? I don’t know. I just didn’t know if there if I missed maybe a statement or a conversation at the end of the book in which, you know.

AJ (09:48.877)
Yeah.

AJ (10:00.714)
Yeah, I mean, we can, we can talk about it. don’t think, I know she talks to some of them at the end, but I don’t know that she said like anything specifically to Drosky about him coming back or anything. Yeah.

Tara (10:13.555)
about him coming back or whatever. Yeah, I just thought of that right now. was like, hold on. He came back because she’s letting him come back, but afterwards, he now know a lot? Is he okay to come back now? Or is he, are we cool? I feel like he’s cool.

AJ (10:31.729)
hahahaha

AJ (10:36.526)
I mean, here’s the thing. feel like, I feel like he’s cool because he is a member of the 12. We know that now and he helped bring down this war criminal. So who’s going to say, you know, yeah, you can’t come back. Yeah.

Tara (10:48.53)
Yeah.

Yeah, you can’t come back to the United States. Yeah, I’m just like, I just my brain just went there right now. And I was like, wait, hold on. But I mean, I agree. I think he’s cool and he should not have to have restrictions coming into the country. That’s my feeling.

AJ (11:05.964)
Right. No. Yeah. Of course not.

Okay, so.

Tara (11:13.181)
So if you want to do 14 or do you have something, I do have notes for 14.

AJ (11:16.138)
Yeah, no, yeah, well, let’s do 14. And.

Tara (11:19.653)
Okay, I just have one note for chapter 14. And if you want to read it after I… So chapter 14, going into a restaurant to check a bomb seems inadvisable. Whitney is not going to like this.

AJ (11:23.404)
Okay?

AJ (11:33.608)
Hahaha

No. No.

Tara (11:41.491)
So that was my note.

AJ (11:43.009)
So, all right, so yeah, I’ll do 14 and then you’ll do 15. And the fun part about that is that you’ll read your note if you have a note for chapter 15 at the beginning. And then I have a note at the end.

Tara (11:46.28)
Yes.

Tara (11:56.242)
Yes.

well, for now, let’s focus on 14, but I’m so excited for your notice in 15.

AJ (11:59.926)
So.

AJ (12:03.433)
Yeah. So, okay. Chapter 14, Eve and Rourke go back to the mansion and tell the others that Darlene is fine. She tells Iris to contact the number again, saying that she will be there and she’s trying to contact the other two and see if they can be there also. Even Rourke decided to go by the restaurant to get the lay of the land and to look for possible explosive devices.

Eve contacts Rio for warrant and like this, I love this part. laughed out loud. It says from the book, though Rio wore a baggy t-shirt and had her froth of blonde hair messily bundled up, Eve concluded still working. I need a warrant. So I assume as I didn’t think you’d called to chat. I’m good. How are you? Great. There I chatted.

Tara (12:56.315)
You

Tara (13:00.432)
Eve!

AJ (13:00.942)
Eve, come on now. So once the warrant goes through, Eve and Rorke leave, sorry. Once the warrant goes through, Eve and Rorke leave for the restaurant. And then from the book, when they left, Marjorie poured herself another cup of coffee. I like the girl more and more, just no bullocks about her. She can be and often is stunningly rude after topping off his own coffee, Somerset Saps.

Honest but not beyond a fault, brilliant in her way and her focus, which does not include social niceties, unflinchingly loyal to those who have earned her loyalty, and terrifyingly brave. She once stepped in front of a stream to spare me, and I had not earned her loyalty, I had not. Yet she did so without hesitation. Reaching over, Ivana took his hand. He won’t best her. I can’t even pronounce that.

You know, it’s a endearment in the Ukrainian. He won’t best either of them. If he harms them, either of them, he will not live. He said it calmly, coolly, with absolute certainty. Not this time, not again. I swear that to all of you. Marjorie sat down with her… Right, exactly, yep. Marjorie sat down with her coffee.

Tara (14:05.245)
Yeah.

Tara (14:20.689)
Yeah, not a single one of us is surprised by that statement.

AJ (14:27.968)
or set down her coffee walked over to lay her hand over theirs. That’s an oath we’ll all take with you. And one by one they laid their hands and swore it. So this is Eve. Yes. And it’s I just love that. I mean, clearly. So we we had this discussion, remember, with Melanie Johnson about Somerset, whether he was a dick. And I think we just

Tara (14:39.443)
A lot of oaths.

AJ (14:56.322)
concluded that they both were being dicks, you know, although some are said to dick. And here’s just a, he’s telling them he was a dick. I didn’t earn her loyalty. She gave it to me anyway. I didn’t earn it. So that’s kind of a confession from him that yeah, he was kind of a dick to her and he knows it. Yeah.

Tara (14:59.111)
They both were being dicks.

Tara (15:15.751)
He was unkind to her. And obviously we’ve very recently learned that, you know, he has more than we thought as far as reasons to dislike cops. And also like, I think that we all recognize that like, he knows how he treated her and he consciously treats her

AJ (15:26.848)
Absolutely.

AJ (15:39.362)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (15:42.929)
differently because he’s gotten to know her and learned to respect her and got, know, like, I mean, I think that that was like the whole point of our episode with, you know, with Melanie. And that’s one of the best parts about Somerset is that we have this character who not only is fascinating, but is willing to go, well, that was incorrect. I did not handle that properly.

AJ (15:52.28)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (16:08.035)
great.

Tara (16:09.829)
And also him being with all of his friends and being that honest and open means that like him saying it to them means it’s absolutely he absolutely believes that he’s not, you know, just saying it’s a rark, you know, or something. So I love it.

AJ (16:23.534)
Right. Well, and you know, I don’t even, I don’t even think he’s said this things this complimentary to work about Eve. I don’t think he has.

Tara (16:31.845)
I don’t think he has either. He has said some complimentary things about e-fork to work, but not, I agree with you, not quite here.

AJ (16:35.81)
Yeah.

AJ (16:40.448)
And if I’m not mistaken, we probably all knew that he fought this way.

Tara (16:46.525)
yeah, well, and Nora has written moments into the text where we’ve seen him feeling this way and all been thinking, but he’ll never tell Eve that.

AJ (16:58.222)
He still won’t, but he’ll tell his friends, so that’s good enough for us.

Tara (17:01.169)
He so won’t.

Tara (17:05.573)
So good.

AJ (17:06.222)
So even Rourke in the car going to the restaurant and it says they’re going to get restless. Rourke warned her. I can’t help that. Then she scrubbed her hands over her face into her hair. I know that I feel that but they’ll have to suck it up and I know if I don’t take powder soon, it’s going to be a problem. Let me handle that. You’ll just order or threaten. You’ve got something better? I do. Yes, guilt.

Why would you add to the lieutenant’s work? Why would you fracture her focus when she needs her focus? Losing her focus could cause her to make a mistake and be hurt. Why would you add to her worries and mine? Jesus, that’s good. It’s mean in a twisted way and that makes it meaner. Passive aggressive may not be an honorable choice, but it’ll work. He glanced over. I’ll handle them, my word on it.

Tara (17:49.777)
Hehehehehe

Tara (18:04.28)
It is real good.

AJ (18:05.718)
It is broken. So at the restaurant to get out of the car and they just take a stroll around. Eve gets a call from Abernathy that they have the prison doctor in custody.

Tara (18:19.023)
Abernathy’s out here doing some good ass work, man.

AJ (18:22.058)
Yeah, later on he’ll basically say I need a vacation, which he does. This is a lot for him too, I’m sure.

Tara (18:26.087)
Right, which is fair.

AJ (18:31.438)
Um, then Eve turns on her recorder and they enter the building. Rourke gets out his explosives detector. He finds the bomb under one of the tables. Um, so I just like that we’re answering the questions before they’re said and we review the reviews. Um, yes, she got a warrant. They didn’t go in illegally. She got a warrant first. She turned her recorder on so that it’s all up and up and legal. So stop.

telling me that Eve breaks the law. I mean, she does, but someone will. Yeah. So.

Tara (19:03.859)
Someone will. Someone will.

AJ (19:09.528)
So yeah, they find the bomb under the table and Eve says, well, Jesus, fuck, get out of there. I’ll bring in the bomb squad. And he says, no need, give us a minute. If he’s watching this place, he could set the goddamn thing off. Your face is on top of it. I like your face. He glanced toward her, smiled. Thank you, darling. I’m very fond of yours. This is an old device, urban wars era. I learned on one of these bastards. Hold this, will you? While she held the light,

Watch the minute go from 36 to 35, he got out his tools. She didn’t know what the hell he did with them, but wished he wouldn’t. Listen Rourke, shh. It has a nice but faint hum, I need to hear it. I thought after all this time you’d trust me. I do, but that’s the guilt crap, isn’t it? There now, he set some of the housing down. You’ll want to bag this. You should run back and get your fuel kit. I’m not going anywhere, Ace.

And if you think I’d leave you here with a fucking bomb, you hurt my feelings. And he says a good attempt at the guilt crap.

So Rourke does in fact deactivate the bomb. does in fact bag it and then they go home. Everyone is hanging out at Eve’s office and you know that irritate like she can’t, everyone’s hanging out here. Like I need them gone because I need to get work done. So Rourke smoothly ushers them into his office to brief them. Somerset steps to Eve.

Tara (20:16.295)
Yep.

AJ (20:39.092)
Somerset steps to Eve’s desk with a mug of coffee and some cookies. Caffeine and sugar, you appear to thrive on them. They do the job. So do you, Lieutenant. So that was just a really sweet moment between them.

Tara (20:55.931)
Yeah, I love that interaction between them. I was over here unsuccessfully drinking water. Choking on water. It’s good. I muted myself. I love that. Anyway, show must go on.

AJ (20:58.029)
Yeah.

AJ (21:09.224)
didn’t see, I was reading, I didn’t even see you. Okay, I just went on. That’s just how it works. Show must go on.

So I know you haven’t seen Galaxy Quest.

Tara (21:26.716)
I’m not.

AJ (21:28.64)
One of the best, one of the best. Cause Alan Rickman is playing like the Spock character and they’re at a convention and he’s like, I won’t go out there. I won’t go out there. Like he’s doing this whole thing. Like I was a Shakespearean actor. And then at a certain point he’s like, I won’t go out there. then, Tim, what’s his name?

Tara (21:36.912)
Okay, that’s fantastic.

Tara (21:54.259)
to Malin. Yeah.

AJ (21:54.702)
You know who I’m talking to? Alan is playing like the Kirk Karen character and he’s like, yes, you will go out there. And he’s like, I won’t go out there. There’s nothing you can say to me that will make me go out there. And Tim Allen’s character goes, the show must go on. And you see Alan Rican going, damn it. It’s like one of the best. So.

Tara (21:59.539)
you

Tara (22:14.365)
That’s amazing.

I love it. Okay, so chapter 15.

AJ (22:21.344)
Anyway, so chapter 15.

Tara (22:26.257)
My notes. How am I just now realizing that whenever Eve works out first thing in the morning, she literally only drinks coffee? Ma’am, you need to drink some fucking water if you’re going to run two miles.

AJ (22:27.16)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (22:36.558)
You

AJ (22:40.15)
It’s true. Well, I feel like she drinks some coffee and then she probably brings water with her, don’t you think?

Tara (22:40.339)
never noticed that she does not drink water before she works out in morning.

I would imagine, but I’m like, still though, like the water that you drink while you’re doing the thing is not, it’s not hydrating you for what you need. Like if you want to be able to do things later, you need to already have the water in your body. She sure does. ma’am, drink some fucking water. I don’t know why, just like, I was like, she always do this?

AJ (23:05.944)
She does a lot on just coffee, so…

AJ (23:19.726)
Just coffee?

Tara (23:19.941)
She like she goes and works out without eating anything and just drinks coffee like.

AJ (23:25.44)
Alright, yeah, it does seem inadvisable, but…

Tara (23:29.171)
Yeah, yeah, well Eve Eve is not always known for making the smartest decisions when it comes to Her her own health, but you know, there are many people like that in the universe. I was just like Okay, drink some water Okay, so chapter 15 getting ready for bed Eve decides that since she’s had coffee and cookies

AJ (23:38.317)
Right.

Mm-hmm.

AJ (23:47.756)
Ha ha ha

Tara (23:57.159)
She’s all revved up and ready for some bedtime fun.

AJ (24:00.59)
Yeah, you know, um, they do the thing. Uh, it’s so it’s one of those things like I’m getting really tired of saying, doing the thing, get it. mean, you know, um, uh, but we can still say, uh,

Tara (24:02.003)
And they do the thing.

Tara (24:12.773)
okay.

Tara (24:23.176)
I really like the way you worded this just now. Ready for some bedtime fun.

AJ (24:26.158)
And it’s interesting because this is the first full-length book that I can think of that only has one sex scene.

Tara (24:30.598)
you

Tara (24:43.837)
Yeah.

AJ (24:45.551)
I can’t remember. There might be others.

Tara (24:50.845)
probably are but we’re just not thinking of them.

AJ (24:53.694)
But yeah, mean, you some people will be very happy about that and some people won’t.

Tara (24:58.855)
Yes, some people won’t be. But I mean, to be fair, it doesn’t really make sense for them to have another. Because once that kid is, yeah, you have all these people in the house and then that kid gets kidnapped and it’s like there’s there’s no time to stop. To do anything fun. So. Too tired. The next morning, she heads to the gym and finds Marjorie and Iris already there.

AJ (25:06.178)
I know they got all these people in the house.

AJ (25:13.494)
Right. Yeah. Yeah. And they’re too tired. Yeah.

Tara (25:28.435)
from the book. We thought we’d be out before anyone else was stirring. Marjorie racked her weights. One has to stay in tune if one insists on doing stunts. And since I enjoy making the occasional action vid, I’m on her round. I see you have a new model of sparring droid. Mine’s considerably older and should be updated. How do you like this one? First, she tried to imagine the middle-aged woman giving it all with the droid.

one fabricated as a muscular male of about 35. I haven’t tried it yet. I broke the last one. Marjorie’s brows winged up, sparring. I was a little pissed off. Impressive. We all remember that scene well. Good times. And then after her workout, she comes back to the bedroom to find work there in street clothes.

AJ (26:14.829)
Yeah.

Tara (26:23.335)
He tells her he’s working from home until they have to leave for the op at Chez Robert. Rourke brings out pancakes for breakfast. Eve finishes first and gets up to dress. Rourke decides to help her find the correct jacket. From the book, he held up a hand then wary of the cat, took the plates to stow inside the auto chef cabinet, shut the door. While in Eve’s closet, they hear a crash. Bugger it.

When they pushed out the cat stretched up inside the open cabinet happily licking syrup off a plate the dome sat on the floorway had fallen He opened it. You said he opened the damn door. I’m impressed. I’m bloody well impressed and yet work strode over plucked up the cat I’ll put a lock on it if needs must he told the cat and set him down Unconcerned gala had licked syrup off his paws his bi-colored eyes eroded on eaves and were full of delight

AJ (27:15.982)
I mean, you go for it, Gala Head.

Tara (27:18.301)
God, I love Gala Head.

Right? On her way to Central, Eva is contacted by Whitney, who orders her to come to his office as soon as she gets in. She then gets a call from Mira asking for a meet. Mira will meet her in her office after she talks to Whitney. She then sends a text to her entire bullpen telling them to drop their current investigations and attend a meeting in the conference room about… In the conference room…

regarding the op she’s putting, she’s setting up. Eve heads to Whitney’s office. He is upset because she and Rourke went into the restaurant and deactivated a bomb without clearing it with him first. Can I say, makes sense. Yeah. He’s also upset she’s organizing an op without his clearance first. He will of course approve all this, but he wants to remind her there are protocols. Fair. Fair.

AJ (28:02.611)
yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

AJ (28:17.112)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (28:19.215)
Back in her office, Eve meets with Mira. Mira is concerned that Eve is taking unnecessary risks and tells her that Potter is not rational and will do and will also take unnecessary risks. Mira also wants to be in the room when Eve questions him after he is caught. At this point, I feel like Eve has only taken one unnecessary risk. Am I wrong?

AJ (28:42.784)
Yeah. So, well, I think though she means like during this whole operation, like during this whole thing.

Tara (28:44.946)
Ahem.

Tara (28:50.653)
Yeah.

AJ (28:51.98)
you know, protect yourself, don’t take risks that you don’t need to take.

Tara (28:54.739)
I mean, because, you know, again, deactivating a bomb, very inadvisable.

AJ (28:59.36)
Yes. And I, you know, she probably got that report as well and was like, fuck no. She’s going to talk to me and I’m going to tell her about taking unnecessary risks. Right.

Tara (29:06.417)
Yeah, I should…

don’t do that. And then Peabody comes in and tells Eve she’s got the conference room booked and that Carmine will be working with Yancy on a possible face because they think they can get an idea of the face underneath the mask.

On her way to the conference room, she bumps into De Winter, who tells Eve that she got the supposed remains from Potter’s cremation, and the DNA shows that the remains were not Potter’s, which no one was surprised to learn.

AJ (29:41.814)
Right. So this note here is, I put it here because I do know on our chat about this book and Facebook, there was one person, I can’t remember who it was, saying like, you can’t get DNA from cremated remains because the cremation process destroys all the DNA. And so I was like, huh, I wonder if that is…

Tara (29:54.067)
Ahem.

Tara (30:08.306)
Ahem.

AJ (30:10.542)
correct. mean, sounded correct to me, but I wanted to look it up to see like if that was in fact correct, or if you could still get DNA. And there were several articles, but this is one of them. And I’ve got a link here, but the gist of it is in red here.

Tara (30:29.213)
So the note says, can you get DNA from cremated remains? Link to the article. End quote from the article, the cremation process destroys most of the DNA in the body, but some may be preserved inside bones and teeth. In some instances, the remaining DNA can be extracted from ashes after cremation, but this process can be complicated and the chances of success are low.

AJ (30:56.792)
So yeah, I mean, it’s not easy, but we’re talking about De Winter and she’s supposed to be one of the best in the entire country.

Tara (30:59.954)
Yeah.

Tara (31:06.513)
So I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that I feel like Nora probably did this exact same search or at least tried to learn this much as well and probably came to that same conclusion of being like, well, one, this is my fucking series. I can do whatever the hell I want. And two, it doesn’t say that it’s completely impossible. And I have…

AJ (31:14.486)
I would think so, yes.

AJ (31:23.547)
Right.

Tara (31:32.433)
these characters that are able to do really amazing things because they’re so good at what they do. So, boom, DeWinter is going to be able to do this. And I feel like that’s how that went. In-depth reasons, but also whoever whoever said it in the chapter, like or in the in the in the chat, like totally understand that, like that, that being brought to the table, you know, that conversation, because.

AJ (31:39.118)
And also, you know, in death reasons, because it’s what 30 or 40 years in the future.

AJ (31:58.798)
Mm hmm. Yeah.

Tara (32:01.981)
So they’re not wrong, neither is DeWinter, because in death reasons.

AJ (32:03.607)
No.

AJ (32:06.934)
Right. And again, we really don’t know how far the DNA science will progress in the next 30 or 40 years. So they may be to that point where it’s just that good and you can do that easily, but I don’t know.

Tara (32:17.392)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (32:26.963)
Yeah.

AJ (32:27.608)
But it’s interesting and I thought I would bring it up.

Tara (32:30.223)
No, I, that’s awesome. There was, at one point during my read, was like, I know you could do that. And then I just moved on.

AJ (32:39.374)
Well, you know me I’m like, you know, let’s look this up

Tara (32:46.045)
don’t know. Why not? I know. I love that.

AJ (32:46.446)
Because that’s just who I am.

So, all right, you have notes for chapter 16?

Tara (32:54.535)
I have no nose for chapter 16. I know. Crazy.

AJ (32:59.05)
Nothing really huge goes on in Chapter 16. but let’s read it. Chapter 16. In the conference room, Eve lays out her plan for the squad. This is from the book. Eve says, he won’t resist being in the area, having a view of the target area today. 1300 for their arrival, 15 minutes to detonation. There are possible areas where he can find that view.

We need to cover as many as possible. Peabody on screen, the target here. He’d like to be inside, Jenkinson said, watch his work, but unless he’s a serious fuckhead, he won’t be, finished. Across the street is the most probable, plenty of good views.

Tara (33:40.435)
You

Tara (33:46.279)
I mean, he is a serious fuckhead, let’s be clear, but.

AJ (33:48.118)
He really is a serious fuckhead. Even Peabody decide to look at whether or not a male fitting Potter’s description has rented a space in any of the buildings near the restaurant. They eliminate one and talk with the super in another who turns out to be a big fan. From the book, the super a dark skinned woman with him, improbable blonde hair, worn in a waist in waist bleh.

The super, a dark skinned woman with improbable blonde hair, worn in waist length coils, gave Eve the wide eyes. my God, it’s you, it’s you. Who’s dead? Somebody’s been murdered. I saw the vid, it was wild. Nobody is dead, Mrs. Ogilby. Where Ogilby sucked in air and her eyes went wider. We’ve got clones. No ma’am, you could help in the area of an investigation.

Tara (34:44.115)
You

Ahem.

AJ (34:46.892)
Bet your ass I will. Sorry, that’s rude. I’m a little, you know, a back. Who’d say no to Dallas and Peabody? We’d like to look through two empty units. Peabody? Units 5A and 3C. my God, are you looking for your own place? You’re busting up with Rourke? She slapped a hand on her heart. Don’t do it! Right, I know.

Tara (35:09.139)
This woman needs to fucking calm down. Calm down, ma’am.

AJ (35:16.736)
I’m not. This is part of an investigation. If we could look through those units and if you could tell us more about the occupants of units 5C and 2A. Are they suspects? Holy hell. This is standard inquiry, put in, Peabody put in. So yeah, they calmed her down, I guess, but wow. You know.

Tara (35:36.691)
You

It’s always it’s always fun. I always love when we get people who are like, Dallas. my God. Who’s dead? Like, it’s always fun.

AJ (35:46.668)
I know. Do we have clones? I just…

Tara (35:48.595)
I feel like that’s the first time we’ve been asked that one and I love it.

AJ (35:51.808)
No, actually, remember there was that one book and they had to go into a bank and the bank teller was like, I saw that vid, there’s clones, I saw that vid, remember?

Tara (36:00.338)
Yeah

Yes, that’s so vaguely like somewhere over here in my brain. It was it was something more recent, like that I’ve only read like once. do we have clones?

AJ (36:11.746)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.

AJ (36:21.682)
So they look at the two units that could potentially be used by Potter to observe the bombing. Then they go to the restaurant to get information from the staff. A waitress tells them that the day before she had a lone male who sat in the booth where they found the bomb.

Tara (36:25.363)
Ahem.

AJ (36:44.398)
They didn’t tell her they found it. She just pointed out the booth and Eve is thinking in her head. Yeah, that’s where we found the bomb He said he was waiting for family. He sat for a while then got up and left saying there had been a family emergency They went back to central where Eve updated her reports When Roark comes in she briefs him make sure he’s wearing thin shield then they stopped the bullpen

There are a handful of unoccupied units along the block and no sign of illegal entry. No sign he’s cased any of them. The probability reads he’d choose his view from one of the restaurants or shops or just time it so he’s on the street when it’s set to blow. I’m going to emphasize again, he will be armed, most likely an urban’s era handgun, potentially more than one weapon. She paused, felt that weight in her belly.

Protect and serve, protect and serve civilians and each other. You all know your positions. Feeny, Peabody, Rourke, I ride with you. He knows our faces. Now let’s go get this fucker.

AJ (37:56.238)
So, Tara, and I absolutely did in fact plan this, this way, gets to read all about the Ops.

Tara (37:57.907)
Yeah.

Tara (38:10.454)
And before I read about the op I’ll read my little notes about chapter 7

AJ (38:12.993)
Mm-hmm.

Okay.

Tara (38:22.429)
my god, I fucking hate this guy.

AJ (38:24.686)
He’s the worst.

Tara (38:30.039)
Him saying his wife’s name is Alice is disgusting. What a fucking asshole

AJ (38:34.796)
Yeah, he’s got some weird obsession and he just hasn’t gotten over it.

Tara (38:38.259)
Oh my God, you suck so much. And then also, as someone who has to leave my place to do laundry, find the terminology, like I find the term ridiculous to be offensive to me when you’re referring to a laundry machine in your apartment. That my fucking friend is a luxury and you can fuck off. He’s like, oh, ridiculous washing machine. No, no, no, no, no, no. That is not ridiculous. Fuck off.

AJ (38:41.933)
Yeah.

AJ (39:00.046)
Hahaha

AJ (39:06.262)
Exactly. That’s what you want.

Tara (39:09.125)
You privileged fuck. Those are literally the notes for this chapter. My notes for the chapter are just like, this guy sucks and he’s privileged and I fucking hate him. Anyway. Chapter 17. At the location, there are a few possibles that they are keeping an eye on. They saw a couple entering one of the buildings, but couldn’t see them clearly because they had a large umbrella.

AJ (39:11.6)
Hahaha

Fuck off, you privileged fuck.

AJ (39:23.222)
Yep.

Tara (39:39.759)
Eve had a weird feeling so is keeping her eye on the two vacant apartments in that building. The point of view switches to the couple and it is in fact Potter along with a real estate agent. He is touring one of the vacant apartments. He makes an excuse to the real estate agent that he wants to video call his wife and asks the agent if he could be left alone to do that for a few minutes. Then he goes to the window overlooking the restaurant and prepares for the explosion. He texts Iris pretending to be the cousin and says he’s running late.

Iris lets Eve know that she got the text from Potter posing as the cousin. Eve is still feeling weird about the couple that went into the apartment building, so she decides to go check things out. In apartment 5A, there are several people painting. She asks them all to take off their masks so she can look at them and none of them are Potter. Just then the real estate agent comes in. Eve asks her whether or not she was with another person, and she said yes, that man is two floors down in 3C.

Eve frantically calls for backup as she makes her way down to 3C. By that time, the time for the bomb to blow up has passed and there was no explosion and Potter realizes it was a setup and he runs. Eve is on his tail, but he is too far ahead of her. He then turns around, takes out a gun and fires. The bullet hits Eve in the shoulder, but her thin shield deflects it. He then decides to aim the gun at two civilians and fires, and Eve manages to block the civilians just in time.

The bullet grazes her side. She tries to get up and run after him again, but is blocked by another civilian. Just then, Santiago runs up, tells Eve to go, and tells the civilians that they are police. By that time, Potter is gone. Rourke runs up from another direction and tells them that he didn’t see Potter from his direction. From the book, she pressed her fingers against the sting in the edge of her right ribs, and they came back bloody. Well, shit, you’re hit, Rourke dragged up her shirt.

Hey, hey, on the freaking street. Shut up. It didn’t penetrate. Relief trembled through him as he examined the wound, a graze, not a pleasant one, but shallow. I could have told you. It hit the lining. I felt it. I guess it caught me a little when I had to jump in front of those idiot women. Rourke tapped his earbud as she dragged her shirt back down. Feeny, need the van at our location. The lieutenant’s wounded. Don’t say that. Appalled, she shoved at his arm. I’m not wounded. I’m scratched.

AJ (41:37.07)
you

Tara (42:03.825)
I need these blocks canvassed. I need to see security feeds from door cams. need to tell your very efficient team that you need them to do. Tell, you need to tell your very efficient team what you need them to do while you’re getting that wound treated. It’s a great little banter between them. And then as they’re waiting for the MTs, Carmichael runs up and tells them, says, Dallas, you’re bleeding. Peabody runs up and says, Dallas, you’re bleeding. And Eve tells everyone to shut up. Eve.

AJ (42:20.495)
Yes.

Tara (42:34.439)
gonna be okay. If you’re, I’m sorry, but if you’re bleeding, people are gonna comment.

AJ (42:39.596)
Right, but she’s also like obsessed with him getting away and we need cams and yeah.

Tara (42:44.074)
Yeah. Oh, Eve. And then the M.T.’s pull up to treat Eve’s wound and then Feeny pulls up with the van. From the book, when she got out of the van, Eve stood on the sidewalk. He took a bit. He took a long look. Too bad about the shirt. Yeah. We got him on some door cams, got him turning, got the weapon in his hand, fired twice. Jacket took all the first one. We got you jumping in front of the two civilians in the tumble. How he caught you some pure black, pure bad luck.

The jacket shifted enough on the jump. You hadn’t moved, the woman on the right would have been down, bleeding from a bullet in the gut. He paused, kept his eyes on hers. Just a graze, they fixed it. Okay?

I just love Feeny again handles it entirely differently than everyone else because of course he does. But he’s still so concerned. But he’s like, but he’s like, how can I also not annoy Eve with the way and diffuse by still doing that? Yeah. We’re like Feeny, we know that’s code for you’re fucking worried.

AJ (43:31.608)
Right, but he’s still concerned. You can see in this text that he’s still concerned. Yeah.

AJ (43:41.706)
It defused the situation by saying like, sorry about the shirt. Yeah.

Tara (43:53.735)
Which we love. We love Feeny so much. And so then the point of view switches to Potter and he’s all panicky and really angry because he almost got caught because he sucks. So from the book, they all thought of themselves as heroes. Well, he knew just the way to make them prove it. He knew exactly how to lure them out. He thought to say this this for the last of them for Somerset. He just pushed the plan up in order. And why not give the heroes a choice of who would stand the sacrifice?

AJ (44:02.146)
He sucks.

Tara (44:22.331)
Yes, let them prove themselves heroes. And he’d prove at last he was better than all of them. Like, OK, so this happened in the storyline, and I didn’t I didn’t pause Susan to say this, but I was essentially like racking my brain to be like, what the fuck is going what is he going to do? Who is he going to hurt? Like I was so worried for Eve and then I was like, well, Eve is like off the table, like you can’t get to her.

AJ (44:27.733)
No you’re not.

AJ (44:42.368)
Right. Right.

AJ (44:50.776)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (44:50.931)
So then I was like racking my brains. was like, I was concerned for Mavis. I was concerned for like Nadine. I was like, just I was like any of these people, like who is he gonna get to? So.

AJ (44:56.014)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (45:03.798)
Right. And what he did, you know, was like a complete surprise because, and, but it makes perfect sense.

Tara (45:08.946)
Yeah.

Tara (45:14.013)
Well, yeah.

AJ (45:14.264)
that he would save that for Somerset.

Tara (45:18.267)
Yeah, especially that saving that for Somerset. God, he’s such a piece of shit. I hate this guy. So anyway, even all of them head back to cop central and you squad give Whitney a rundown of what happened from the book Jenkinson says, we don’t appreciate you taking it on for him getting by us. Jenkinson, if we bagged him, would you take all the credit? Hell, no, you wouldn’t. So don’t treat us like we’re assholes who don’t know the job.

AJ (45:22.798)
Yeah, he is really a piece of shit.

AJ (45:32.43)
WAH!

Tara (45:46.109)
Plus the motherfucking fucker fucking shot you. At, shot at. Recognizing if she didn’t cut this angle off, she’d have a mutiny on her hands. She held one up. Okay, we all did the job and he still got away from us. Feel better? No, but at least that’s not bullshit. Somebody get me some damn coffee. I love Jenkinson. Somebody get me some damn coffee and we’ll go over it point by point. Then everyone right there, up there, part of it.

AJ (46:06.478)
Shaken soon.

Woof woof woof woof woof woof

Tara (46:15.579)
and have these reports on my desk by end of shift. Rourke got her the coffee and smoothly pressed a blocker into her palm. Take it, you’re in pain, take it, he murmured. Or I’ll stick Jenkinson on you. She took it. Yeah, we don’t want Jenkinson to be sick, though. Yeah, no, don’t deal with Jenkinson. Yep, Lily has some feelings.

AJ (46:28.622)
No. hang on just one second. Lily? Lily, come here. Come on.

AJ (46:41.708)
Thank you very much. You did a good job. You’re a good girl. That’s what you’re supposed to do. That’s your job. Come up here. Come up here. Okay. There’s absolutely nobody. Well, there’s a neighbor across the street. It was getting out of their car and probably talking and she was like having none of it because what if they come to kill us? We don’t know. So she has to.

Tara (47:04.275)
She has feelings.

AJ (47:05.25)
She has a lot of feelings about that.

Tara (47:07.819)
I respect it. I respect it.

AJ (47:09.838)
Whoops. So thank you though. You did a good job. Yeah. Good job. Uh, okay. So, okay. So chapter 18. Um, so from the book, Oh, do you have notes for chapter 18? Oh, okay. Uh, okay. So from the book,

Tara (47:15.507)
Lily.

Tara (47:30.419)
I don’t for 18, I do for 19.

AJ (47:36.302)
She couldn’t deny the blocker helped, so she wouldn’t mention it. That is so Eve. But it helped get her through the rest of the debrief. It helped keep her mind clear to write up her report in detail, then to read and review others that came in. Then Yancy visits…

Tara (47:42.013)
Yep, now see you.

AJ (48:03.54)
Eve’s office to let her know that he and Carmine work together to get her three sketches. They all agree that the last sketch is the closest to what Potter would look like today. From the book, Yancey says, I heard he got shot, you don’t look like you got shot. Because I didn’t I got shot at people leave off the at. I just love this whole I got shot at thing. It just cracked me up. Yeah.

Tara (48:29.628)
It’s great.

AJ (48:32.682)
Yancy leaves, Eve goes out to her bullpen. Rourke is still there working on his PPC. She gives everyone Yancy’s image of Peabody tells Eve that even though Potter got away, the Op wasn’t a disaster. I don’t think Eve believed her, but you know, good for you Peabody for trying.

Tara (48:53.971)
Well, know, someone’s gotta be positive about it all and it’s usually gonna be Peabody, so…

AJ (48:58.262)
Yeah. And, you know, Eve says, great, but he’s going to escalate. Potter’s going to escalate. So she’s not wrong, but maybe, you know, and then on the way out, Eve and Rourke have a little disagreement. so from the book, let’s clear this up. I get you were upset that he opened up on me. Do you know? Yes. Now then later. I get it. But you can’t step.

Tara (49:08.423)
Right?

AJ (49:27.774)
on my authority on an op, especially in front of my team. You’ll have to excuse me for demanding medical attention when my wife’s been shot. At, at, at. She’s like at, at, shot at. I believe technically when a bullet makes contact with flesh, it’s shot at is a miss. It barely did and that’s not the point. It’s a very sharp point for me and he’s not wrong. Like, yeah.

Tara (49:37.715)
Tara (49:56.955)
He is not wrong.

AJ (49:57.868)
Yeah, she was shot. Eve tells him that she’s grateful for everything he’s done to protect her, Thinshield and the DLE, but he can’t be there to protect her 24-7. And he can’t order her around on an op that she is leading. And she’s not wrong either.

Tara (50:14.183)
Right.

AJ (50:14.93)
he waited to be, yeah. Okay. he waited to beat. have to disagree with you that on that. I have to disagree with that last bit. When my wife is bleeding from a bullet wound, a wound caused by a bullet is a bullet wound. He said before she could snarl at him under those circumstances, I am duly authorized to call for medical attention. He waited another beat.

Tara (50:16.679)
But yeah, they’ll read this and I’ll say this after you’re done reading that.

AJ (50:44.064)
It’s in the marriage rules. She opened her mouth, closed it again, turned a circle, pulled on her hair, hoisted by her own petard, she thought, whatever the fucking fuck a petard was.

Tara (50:58.013)
So I would just like to point out that like, no, I do not think he should be allowed to order her around on her op. But at this point, we are past the op. The bad guy has gotten away and she needs medical attention. And he has every right, as he says. And I’m just like, I’m like, While I wouldn’t put it past work to try to tell Eve what to do during the op, it’s technically not.

AJ (51:14.44)
Right, exactly. Right.

Tara (51:26.833)
Lee off anymore.

AJ (51:28.758)
Right. It’s post-op. And don’t think that Peabody wouldn’t have done the exact same thing.

Tara (51:34.637)
Exactly. was like, OK, but, you know, if he had done the same thing or like Santiago was like the first cop to be near her at that point, Santiago would have done that. So sorry, if.

AJ (51:44.616)
Right. Any one of them would have done it. like, she’s just she has, you know, if this is how Eve is, she’s frustrated by what happened. And so she’s just lashing out.

Tara (51:52.305)
It is.

Tara (51:55.737)
Eve.

AJ (51:58.222)
Um, so when they get to the mansion, Eve says to Somerset, briefing my office and 10 everyone. Um, and you know, she didn’t listen to Somerset was like, well, I heard that, you know, somebody fired a gun downtown. There was a report and Eve’s like, my office 10 and goes up and Rourke’s like, yeah, Rourke’s like, she’s a little perturbed, but you know, um, but again, it’s

Tara (52:19.229)
She’s like, we’ll talk about it later. 10.

AJ (52:27.182)
It’s maybe, maybe bonded is a good title for this because we’re seeing Simmered Sutton Eve kind of bonding a little bit more in this book too. So, because yes, he tells Rourke she’s got blood on her clothes and Rourke’s like, yeah, she’ll go over everything in the meat. Yeah.

Tara (52:41.309)
Ooh, yes.

Tara (52:52.547)
Yeah, yep, I know. I’m fucking aware.

AJ (52:55.374)
Eve is worried that Potter is going to escalate and may go after Rourke. Rourke gets wine for Eve because it will relax her and possibly quote unquote open channels. He also gets wine and food for everyone. You’re always feeding people. We both went hungry often enough as children so we know or should that hunger can distract cause the mind to stay unfocused and food well

it can open those channels.

They all see the images that Yancey did of Potter and say that the last one is exactly what Potter would look like now. Eve briefs them all on the op. She tells them Potter fired on her. And when that didn’t work, fired on two civilians. Somerset says that Potter would have, of course, fired on two innocent people because he never had any problems with collateral damage.

Right? So from the book, were they injured? Iris asked the women. No, but the tactic worked and I lost him. We canvassed the area and then works as Eve. Rorke spoke softly, you shouldn’t censor your report. Somerset understood immediately. You were injured, you shielded them. He shot you. I was wearing protection, she repeated. It was and is my job to protect civilians.

I sustained a minor injury which has been treated. He knew you would, Somerset got to his feet. realized that she’d never seen him pace before. It made him almost human. He would have studied you, researched you, know your enemy, anticipate, act. He knew you’d stop the pursuit long enough to shield civilians and he’d use that to get away. Then Eve tells him that her gut told her he would use the building.

AJ (54:54.136)
to watch the bombing and she didn’t listen to her gut. With a smile Marjorie lifted her glass. What does your gut tell you now? He has a place, a detached house with a garage on the west side. The house is bigger than he needs, but he has to have the space, the freedom of space. It’ll be in a good neighborhood, convenient to high end shops and restaurants, probably near enough to food, to a food shop that carries the candy he likes. And Marjorie says, you know him well.

How do we find him? Working on it, Eve muttered. Working on it.

Tara (55:32.145)
I love the little debrief with them. think that it’s just, again, because I like them all so much.

AJ (55:36.95)
Mm hmm. Yeah.

Tara (55:42.163)
Okay. Chapter 19.

My notes.

God, this guy really sucks. Seriously. This is pathetic. You go after a kid. Wow, you really showed all those badass spies. What the fuck is wrong with you? And then I this guy is absolutely an idiot because he truly does not think that Eve is as smart as him. But more so, I just love how he put all this work into sending a false trail. And anyone who’s read these books is like thinking she’s going to go.

AJ (55:52.91)
You

AJ (56:04.599)
Yeah.

Tara (56:21.635)
Absolutely not. The second she sees that there’s some sort of trail outside the area.

Also, you’re an idiot either way, even if you don’t know Eve, even if you happen to be someone who’s avenging Potter or whatever if he’s dead, because if anyone that you are trying to get to, I don’t know. Sorry, I have no idea how I said this. If there’s if you’re trying to get someone to think that you are not in New York City, why the fuck would you send this trail outside when they know that the people you’re trying to get to are in the city?

AJ (56:56.846)
Yeah, he’s a dumbass.

Tara (56:57.159)
God, you’re a dumbass idiot. Like, but that, but I was just like, wait, really? This is your, this is your plan?

AJ (57:08.322)
the plan. He thinks she’s gonna be done enough to go, he’s running. Let’s go after him. And she’s not. She’s not that dumb.

Tara (57:10.511)
Oh yeah. Like, come on. Yeah, this guy is an idiot. I’m… A couple times I was just like offended by how fucking stupid he was about stuff.

AJ (57:25.902)
Well, you know, I mean, he’s a guy that, you know, they said, yes, but he he happens to be the kind of man that basically discounts women. Just doesn’t think women are as good as men. And, you know, unfortunately there are men like that out there.

Tara (57:30.247)
Men.

Tara (57:34.824)
Ha

Tara (57:43.111)
Yeah, yep.

Tara (57:50.993)
There are men like that out there. so I think Nora wrote a very realistic bad guy, even if he is an idiot. That also why can’t I keep dropping my fucking glasses? What the hell? Hold on. I’m a mess. OK.

AJ (58:01.058)
Yep.

AJ (58:05.239)
I don’t know.

Bad guys are often really dumb though.

Tara (58:12.531)
Yeah. Okay. So chapter 19. After she briefed them, Eve wanted the 12 out of her office and attempted to move them along. Instead, Marjorie told her to put them to work. You have seven, this is from the book, you have seven intelligence operatives at your disposal, all with a vested interest in locating Conrad Potter and making bloody well sure he’s put back where he belongs. We’re weapons, Marjorie finished, use us.

So Eva argues with herself briefly, then tells work to give them access to his computer room, and she gives them all assignments. They will start working after having a Ukrainian meal together. And then from the book, you need food and we’ll get started. I don’t want Ukrainian. I want pizza. I should get pizza. I’ve been shot. again, now you’ve been shot, not at. You made such a big deal out of it. I should be able to use it a while. Then rather than.

AJ (59:01.772)
Ha ha ha!

Tara (59:11.419)
That rather than sitting at your command center with a slice in one hand while you work You’ll sit at the table and eat since you’ve been shot That’s the pittar deal again. He kissed her cheek and said boom

AJ (59:23.982)
I’m

Tara (59:25.811)
The point of view shifts to Potter again and he’s executing his new plan which ends up in kidnapping a child, a young boy named Devin McReady. His mother gets worried when Devin doesn’t show up at home when he should, so she goes out to search for him. She finds his violin case abandoned in an alley. Back at the mansion, gets a call from Abernathy, who says he needs a vacation and deserves one, and he gives her a report on his investigation of the prison doctor.

AJ (59:49.582)
Yeah, it probably does, yes.

Tara (59:56.647)
Rourke comes in with a first aid kit to treat Eve’s wound. She asks him if he ever gets tired of playing nurse Nancy, and he says, I can’t begin from the book. The pain she’d ignored eased off. OK, good. Why do I need the blocker for the headache, for the knots in your shoulders and the pain in your neck? Right now, you’re the pain in my neck. And I walked straight into it. He finished the fresh bandage, handed her a blocker. And then Eve asks Rourke what he’s found on Potter.

AJ (01:00:17.836)
Ha ha

Tara (01:00:25.231)
And he says, Potter’s been using multiple fake identities and laundering money through hidden accounts, including one amusingly named Feeding Frenzy Productions. Ha ha. Fucking sharks. After his prison escape, Potter had at least 28 million, which he used to find a luxurious, low profile lifestyle, buying and selling properties in Paris, Saint-Tropez, and Maine.

AJ (01:00:35.039)
Uh-huh.

Tara (01:00:49.873)
He traveled discreetly, paid for things in cash, and likely had cosmetic surgery to alter his appearance. His latest move brought him to New York, where he secured a high-end residence with top-tier security. While much of his money trail remains obscured, Rourke has identified key transactions, accounts, and aliases that could help Eve close in on him. The point of view shifts to Potter again. Devon is waking up from the tranquilizer Potter gave him and is calling for his mom. And he says, Mom’s not here.

And if you want to see her again, you’ll do exactly what I tell you. God, a piece of shit.

AJ (01:01:23.234)
Piece of shit.

Tara (01:01:25.843)
Wow, you’re so amazing. You hurt a child. Fuck him. No, I don’t have any notes for the next chapter. Other than I fucking hate this guy.

AJ (01:01:26.19)
you have.

AJ (01:01:31.714)
Right? No notes.

AJ (01:01:38.465)
It potters the piece of shit.

Tara (01:01:40.423)
as we should.

AJ (01:01:42.166)
Alright, so Chapter 20. Several pages of Potter being an absolute abusive shit to Devon.

which are really hard to read. It’s hard to read when it’s like a kid. Yeah, it’s really hard to read and he was really mean him and I felt bad for Kevin. Yeah, Devon, sorry.

Tara (01:01:56.114)
Yeah.

Tara (01:02:00.317)
I did too, poor kid.

Yeah, fuck Potter.

AJ (01:02:05.654)
Yeah, fuck Potter. Then Potter puts on a disguise and goes to the bus station. He boards an empty bus and tapes a link to the underside of one of the seats. When the bus driver boards the bus, Potter makes the excuse that he boarded the wrong bus and exits again. He drives back to his house thinking that idiot cop would chase it down while he sat in his lovely house having brandy. Yeah, he don’t know her very well.

Tara (01:02:31.187)
What did I fucking… But also like no cop, no, I’m sorry, no cop is going to do that. That is such a fucking old, like, woo, you sent me like, no.

AJ (01:02:43.447)
Yeah.

Tara (01:02:45.235)
No. I think I suck.

AJ (01:02:47.858)
back at the mansion, Roke. Yeah. My, my, my talk detects just did not work well with this, outline. I, and I didn’t see my problem was I also didn’t, didn’t edit, didn’t go back and, edit.

Tara (01:02:53.775)
Hahaha

Tara (01:03:09.713)
Eh, it makes it fun.

AJ (01:03:11.946)
so he tells Eve that she needs to sleep and she says she’s got another hour in her. As she spoke her links of this from the book, as she spoke her link signaled. Relayed from my office. It’s on 24 seven until it’s him. Display says the 12. I need you to, he’s already, he’s, he’d already pulled out his PPC. Triangulate trace 10 seconds to set it up and done.

With his other hand, he took out his link signaled Somerset. They should hear this. She answered, Dallas. Eve Dallas, the computer generated voice jumped a bit. Listen carefully. This message is for you. It is for Mole, Panther, Chameleon, Owl, Magpie, Cobra, Fox, all who remain of the 12 and all of whom are responsible for their imprisonment and death of Shark.

The time has come to pay. The time has come to choose. Will you hide behind the false mask of hero or show yourselves to be the cowards you are? The video unblocked and she saw the boy. Jesus Christ, he’s got a kid. Potter has Devon tell them that Potter will kill him with poisonous gas unless Eve or one of the 12 volunteers to switch places with him.

this time Rourke is the rock. Tells her that his trace on the phone says that Potter is on the turnpike heading west. Eve doesn’t believe it. Yeah, I can’t even, yeah. It was a solid plan. I really thought it was gonna work.

Tara (01:04:40.335)
Rock.

Tara (01:04:57.896)
what? my God. That plan didn’t work.

yeah, I was like, that’ll fool anyone.

AJ (01:05:06.446)
for a minute there. That was a real solid plan, right? Okay. She contacts Peabody and tells her to find Devin’s family and go get as many details as she can from them about the disappearance. She also tells her to let everyone in the bullpen know that they should be at the mansion at 6 a.m. for a briefing. That’s really early briefing, Eve. That was really early.

Tara (01:05:28.691)
That’s a really early briefing. I feel like Peabody was like, like goes to teleport. Everyone is like, are you fucking kidding me? And she’s just like, really? I deal with this shit all the time, y’all. Does the great is the house is the house like where what part of the city is the house in? Like I’m thinking about Peabody maybe not having to travel all the way across the like city to get to Eve’s house.

AJ (01:05:37.751)
well, no, I’m not, but yeah, exactly.

Tara (01:05:58.355)
first thing in the morning, just thinking of the commute. It’s gotta be closer, right? The more she lives now to Eve. I would think, I don’t know. Anyway, just curious. Because it is not, listen, it’s like three miles and three miles sounds like nothing. Three miles is a lot in New York City. That’s not a quick trip. Yeah. Yeah, and your subways are not running.

AJ (01:06:01.496)
Yeah, I don’t

I guess so.

AJ (01:06:19.82)
Yeah, even in the middle of the night, because it’s like 11 by this time. 11 or 12.

Tara (01:06:27.323)
Regularly, it’s just, it’s not fun. Anyway, 6 a.m. is very, very fucking early.

AJ (01:06:30.264)
Yeah.

Okay, yeah. Somerset wants to speak, but she tells him to stay quiet and she and Rourke replay the video to see if they can get any information about the environment that the kid is being held in. From the book, it’s a basement, kids in a basement room. And terrified, I will speak, Somerset snapped it out. I will not sit safe in this house while he torments, tortures and kills that child, someone’s child.

I will not put my life above his. I will not risk it. So what? So you’ll be the trade? Furious, she rounded on him. How, with that big stick up your ass, do you find room to shove your ass? Do you find room to shove your head in with it? Well, that’s a good one, Harry Murmured. I’m stealing it. I mean, and this is exactly why he saved this for Somerset.

But it’s now using it early because he knew Somerset would react this way. I mean, so in that he wasn’t wrong. He just didn’t, you know, know that Eve was going to say absolutely not. You were not going. So.

Tara (01:07:49.265)
Right. Because she knows that he was going to kill the child anyway. obviously, someone said as being reactive and understandably so. But, you know, OK, if you gave your life for this kid, the kid’s going to get killed anyway. So what a fucking waste, you know?

AJ (01:07:55.179)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:08:07.072)
Right. Right, yeah.

So Eve is sure he’s got a house with a basement. Marjorie suggests maybe a storage facility, he thinks, but he thinks Potter needs the room to be soundproof. Plus all of the prep that he would have to put into sealing the room if he’s going to use the gas. It all tells her that he’s got a house with a basement. Yvonne puts in that Potter would

need a house with a lot of space because he would need not only the basement but space for an armory, space for a lavatory, space for costumes, etc. They’re going to refine their search for the house based on this new information. From the book. Then she turned to Somerset. By noon tomorrow I’ll have him in a box. He made some mistakes. The boy’s just the latest one. He asked to keep the kid alive for the follow-up at noon. Show him off again.

scared and crying. Instead, the kid will be home with his family. You can’t be wrong. How would we live with it? How would any of us live with it? I’m not wrong. Go find me a basement. Rourke waited until they had left the room. Well done. You gave them exactly what they needed. The straightforward, the matter of fact confidence. I’m not wrong, she said again, because I can’t be.

Whitney calls and lets Eve know that they have the bus and the phone that was planted on it and a description of the man that was seen on the bus. They also have a description of the man that was seen standing in the alleyway where Devon’s violin case was found. Eve tells him both of those men was Potter. She also tells him that there will be a briefing at the mansion at 6 a.m. the next morning. And he said he’s going to be there. And then the book says,

AJ (01:10:05.108)
She tried not to think of Devin McCready, of the fear in his weeping eyes, the terror in his voice.

Eve asks Rorke who makes the best cars. After saying he thinks he does, Rorke tells her that the next most likely is a German vehicle. Peabody checks in and says that she’s just leaving the McCreedy’s and the parents are holding on by a thread. Eve tells Peabody to swing by central and pick up a bunch of helmets because Potter might go for a headshot next time. And Rorke says bullocks to that.

Tara (01:10:22.813)
the

AJ (01:10:45.166)
Yes, we’re gonna say something.

Tara (01:10:50.053)
No, I thought about it, but no.

AJ (01:10:50.668)
No. This is from the book. Roar crossed her, held out a cookie. A bit of fuel. What kind of cookie is that? Oatmeal. Oatmeal and cookies should be illegal. She stuffed it in anyway. Next thing, it’ll be spinach. Actually, don’t tell me I don’t want to know.

Tara (01:11:04.519)
Ha ha.

Tara (01:11:12.595)
I just want to say I love oatmeal cookies, but oatmeal raisin is not. Like I love a good oatmeal. Like, listen, okay, I will still indulge in a little Debbie oatmeal green pie.

AJ (01:11:16.042)
I don’t know, favorite, but yeah, I mean…

AJ (01:11:24.963)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:11:30.64)
I know.

Tara (01:11:32.435)
But traditionally oatmeal cookies contain raisins and I’m not down for that. So I understand that. I liked raisins growing up and I just, nope, not anymore. And I’m an adult, I can eat what I want.

AJ (01:11:33.506)
Yeah, absolutely.

AJ (01:11:41.122)
I don’t mind raisins. No, I don’t mind raisins actually.

AJ (01:11:49.302)
And it always reminds me of that meme that says anything can be improved by switching raisins for chocolate chips. Like for example, a box of raisins. Yeah.

Tara (01:12:03.219)
Yes. Yes, I love that meme. How to fix how to fix a box of raisins, box chocolate chips.

AJ (01:12:19.086)
After another hour so, Peabody and McNabb show up with both of them dressed in all black and carrying a box of helmets. And I think Eve thinks like she didn’t even think McNabb had all black. Yeah. Eve programs more coffee and all of them get back to work. Now I think this is so chapter 21, I’m like halfway through it.

Tara (01:12:29.307)
McNabb owned black. Yeah, that’s good.

AJ (01:12:46.15)
and I didn’t get so we’ll have to just wing it at the end of this and for the next chapter.

Tara (01:12:49.873)
We got this.

We’ll get it. We’re awesome. I have one note for chapter 21 and then I’ll read as far as we are and then we’ll go from there. 21.

AJ (01:12:53.592)
Do we have any notes for beginning of chapter 21?

AJ (01:13:00.365)
Okay.

Tara (01:13:08.339)
4 million is absolutely a lot. Shut up, Rourke. It is crazy to think that way.

AJ (01:13:12.214)
Ha ha!

Tara (01:13:17.159)
Well, am I wrong? Peabody agrees with me.

AJ (01:13:22.732)
Hahaha.

Tara (01:13:25.307)
OK, Chapter 21. An hour later, Rourke has found a bank account under the name Reginald and Alicia King. Peabody realizes that she had earlier found a black Mercedes register to an Alicia King with an address. Then McNabb and the other members of the 12th Command say they found a house under the name of Reginald and Alicia King. Same address as the one Peabody found. contacts Whitney. Commander, we’ve got him. I’m calling the team in now. On my way. Good work. It’s good.

Eve said as she pocketed her communicator, but I’m but not good enough until Potter’s and Cuffs and the boy. She turned to Somerset in a couple of hours, three tops. The boy is home with his family. His safety is priority. How many do we expect? How many police officers? Her brain back in business still couldn’t quite do the math, including the three here, Rourke said. Seventeen, 18 with Whitney. Sounds right. Why?

They’ll need chairs and something to eat. Some are set, always thinking ahead. So everyone’s on their way and food is being prepared. Rourke is looking into finding exterior visuals and blueprints. Marjorie tells Eve that when she has Potter in custody, all of the remaining 12 need to see him. Eve says she can arrange that. Rourke brings up photos of the house and they all study the photos to know roughly where everything would be laid out.

Feeny arrives first and looks at all the photos of the house. He tells he asks about the security system and Eve tells him it’s one of Rorke’s. Convenient. We love that.

AJ (01:15:01.209)
Ha ha.

Tara (01:15:02.813)
Baxter and Trueheart come in. Marjorie asks if she can pour them a cup of coffee. Baxter tells her that he’s been in love with her since he saw since he saw her when he was 12 in a movie she says was hardly appropriate for a 12 year old boy. But by the time he had learned to bypass the but by that time he had learned to bypass the parental controls on the TV. Of course, Jenkinson and Reineke come in and Jenkinson is wearing a very loud tie with a big rat in a little cage on it.

AJ (01:15:22.753)
Of course.

Tara (01:15:32.765)
This sounds like a very ugly tie. Like I generally am down for the ties, but I’m like this one. Come on, Jenkinson. But it’s but it’s appropriate. He sure did. Sure did. He did. He’s he’s very respectful of the Whitney comes in and before getting something to eat, he shakes the hand of every single member of the remaining 12 and says, thank you for your service.

AJ (01:15:35.543)
Yeah

But look, I gotta give him points for dressing for the occasion.

And he hid it. So he told her, I’ll put it in, I’ll tuck it in my shirt until the ops over. Right.

Tara (01:16:00.339)
Once everyone is there and seated, Eve goes to her plan for the op, which includes Peabody, Callender, and Carmichael being the ones to go down and rescue the boy. Her thinking on that is that will be more comfortable, he will be more comfortable with women than he would with men, especially after a man was just hurting him. She then assigns Feeny and McNabb to the EDD van to monitor the electronics. She had hopes to also have Whitney in the van, but he has other ideas, and she has him going in through the front door with her and Roar.

AJ (01:16:16.461)
Right.

AJ (01:16:30.05)
Yeah, cause he was like, excuse me, you’re not thinking I’m gonna sit in that van, are you? Cause…

Tara (01:16:30.077)
given all the people. Excuse me? I know, it’s so good.

Tara (01:16:38.949)
Yeah, it’s pretty great. It’s pretty great. He’s like, and so I’ll be doing what? It’s pretty good. I loved it. I’ll be with you. I’m going in. OK, that’s. Right, right. The way he could have been like, you’ve been like, so right now I’m hearing of one cop going through the front door and a civilian. This feels like I should say no.

AJ (01:16:44.67)
I’ll be where? Did you say I’ll be behind you at the front door? I’m going in? So it’s not gonna be you and a civilian. It’s gonna be…

AJ (01:17:05.908)
And a commander is sitting in a van? Like, no.

Tara (01:17:08.805)
Right? Like, well, I’m the commander, so perhaps you could not put me in a van. Thank you.

AJ (01:17:20.6)
You don’t put commander in the corner, Eve.

Tara (01:17:20.763)
Love, Whitney. She told me to put commander in the in the Edd Van. So so given all people involved, she sees that they won’t all fit in one van. So she asked if they have one. And of course they do. And I’ll be waiting for all of them outside because why wouldn’t they? From the book. Do you think I feel like she goes to a van in Somerset’s probably like, are you fucking kidding me? Of course.

AJ (01:17:37.07)
No.

AJ (01:17:40.93)
Right. And it’s like, you know, do we have a van? He’s like, it’ll be parked outside. Don’t you worry about that.

Tara (01:17:50.919)
Yes.

AJ (01:17:51.374)
Yeah, but what does he do with a van? Why does he need a van? Okay. I don’t know. Some day this is going to come in really handy.

Tara (01:17:55.207)
He’s work. He he just has one. He’s work. He has whatever the hell does like do you Right just like any single thing you could think of do we have this works like yep got it Somerset bring that around

AJ (01:18:05.646)
No, Rourke is thinking, he recently bought it because he was thinking like, someday there’s going to be an op, she’s going to ask for a van, I’m just going to buy it ahead of time and it’ll be in the garage waiting. And then he thought, okay, now’s the time.

Tara (01:18:19.857)
Right?

Tara (01:18:23.271)
And there it is. Good job, Rourke. From the book, Rourke put on his jacket, took a helmet, and as he looked toward the 12th and Somerset, you’ll know when we have him. And when we do, Eve added, get some sleep. It’ll be at least a couple of hours before I bring him into interview, probably closer to four. There are things to work out, so get some sleep. Someone will contact you when it’s time to come into Central.

AJ (01:18:25.24)
Good looking out, Rourke.

Tara (01:18:52.039)
Will you, Somerset asked, get any sleep? Depends on the things to work out. So when they get to the house, Rourke starts working to disengage his own security system. When he finally bypassed, he told them they have about 60 minutes before it re-engages. When even Rourke and the rest of the crew exit the van, Feeny starts working on the interior security system. He tells everyone to hold until Feeny gives them the word.

On Feeny’s signal, Eve, Rourke, and Commander Whitney enter through the front door. The voice to text called Feeny Phoenix, and so that’s his new code name is Phoenix.

AJ (01:19:28.268)
Yeah, sorry about that. You know, I mean, in a perfect world, I would have gone through and edited, but you know.

Tara (01:19:38.245)
it’s it’s so much more fun this way. So meanwhile, back at the mansion from the book, therein Harry said in the computer lab a lick and a split. If I’d had your boy back in my day, Somerset, the fun we’d have had. They’re moving upstairs. There’s barely any light, Iris pointed out. Detective Peabody and her team are in the back. Marjorie watched the different views on screen. Some trouble at the inside door. They’ll get through.

Yvonne kept his hands clasped together like a man at prayer. That little boy. What’s what wasn’t in here was that the 12 are like, you know, fuck this, we got to watch. And they basically figure out how to watch. They’re they’re like, no.

AJ (01:20:18.464)
Yeah, they, they use their own smarts to tap into his computer systems. So that, or his, yeah.

Tara (01:20:25.437)
Yeah, yeah, they’re like, yeah, we’re not just going to sit here. Even though we said we would, we’re going to also follow along. Watch this app. And so.

AJ (01:20:34.081)
Yeah.

And if, you know, come on, if you know they’re going to do that. Cause later they’re like, you know, don’t. Yeah. Cause later when everything like she, well, she, they didn’t tell her because they’re like, you know, a block video. then when Rourke comes on Rourke, he didn’t block video and work like sees where they are. he’s like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Tara (01:20:39.589)
Yeah, yeah, she’s not, you know, she’s not even shocked about it.

Tara (01:20:58.483)
Yeah, not shocked. This all tracks.

AJ (01:21:03.298)
So.

Tara (01:21:07.315)
So then Peabody, Carmichael and Callender let the team know that the locks in the door holding Devin are not opening. So Feeny works on that. And when they’re finally in, Peabody immediately goes to Devin. This is from the book. I talked to your mom and dad. Peabody spoke softly as she lowered down to Devin. I’m going to cut off these ties on your wrists. I bet they hurt. I couldn’t get them off. I couldn’t. And I tried and tried. I can see that his wrists were raw and bloody where he pulled where they dug in.

The bruises on his hands told her he’d beaten them against the door. But look, now they’re gone. On a sob, he threw himself into Peabody’s arms. Don’t let him come back. Don’t let him kill me and my mom and my dad and my brother. We won’t. Kalender crouched down and pulled a small tube of juice from one of her many pockets. Here you go. Don’t drink too fast. Just take sips, okay? He sipped, he slurped, and he sobbed. He hit me in the face, and it hurt.

He made me pee in a bucket and I got pee on my pants. We’re not going to worry about any of that now. Everything’s okay now. Because he burrowed into her, Peabody stroked his hair then picked him up. We’re going to take you outside and call your mom and dad. Carmichael? Basement level’s clear. Stairs clear. I’ve got the lead. I’m on your six calendar, said. We’re clear, Dallas. Taking Devin out to the van via the walkout. Minor injuries from the zip ties. I’ll tell the MTs to come in silent.

And that is…

AJ (01:22:35.948)
Rockstar. That is literally the end of 21, so good job me.

Tara (01:22:40.955)
Yeah, good job you. So you did the whole chapter. Also, just a reminder in case Peabody needs this reminder, whenever she’s like shit about herself and her body and her working out and all that, a nine-year-old is not exactly small.

AJ (01:22:42.35)
See? Good job!

AJ (01:23:00.608)
No. No, they’re not.

Tara (01:23:02.597)
And she just carries this little nine-year-old out who’s probably not like that child’s probably close to half her size, to be honest at this point. So so you’re doing you’re doing the thing, girl. You got it.

AJ (01:23:11.372)
Right, right, yeah.

And one of the things that I didn’t put in there was that, when Eve was like telling everybody where their positions were going to be, I think it was, Carmichael that said like, where, where, you know, am I not in with, cause she was kind of upset that she wasn’t going in with the team that was going in the front door or whatever. And that’s when Eve said, you know, I need all the, I need you, you three to go in because he’s going to respond better to women. And, and I think that’s.

Tara (01:23:32.198)
Yeah.

AJ (01:23:47.63)
I think you could easily say that’s kind of sexist or whatever on ESPART, but that was the crucial job. mean, obviously the other crucial point is to get Potter. But first and foremost, they need to get that kid out and they need somebody in there that he can trust. She knew who to put in there. So it wasn’t like…

Oh, I don’t get to do the really, you know, dangerous stuff. Like, no, you get to do one of the most essential things, which is getting in there, making this kid feel comfortable, getting him out without, you know, any injury. So yeah.

Tara (01:24:30.781)
Well, and she didn’t like the way that she worded it. It wasn’t like that. She was like, no, you can’t do the badass coming in the front door thing. She literally doesn’t mention Carmichael until she’s like, she’s like, what is my assignment? And then Eve is like, you know, reiterating the importance of getting Devon to safety again, because she does it so many ways. It like throughout this scene, this scene, the scene back at the house, like the number of times when she’s emphasized.

AJ (01:24:42.135)
yeah, yeah.

Tara (01:24:58.961)
the seriousness of his safety being the number one priority. Like I just I thought that was just like a way of her like coming back around to again the priority as this child. And so like kind of ending on Carmichael being like, well, what about me? And he being able to kind of like, I don’t know, circle back around and be like, no, that’s that’s also going to be you. The other thing is that we don’t you know, we’ve never been really in the field with with Carmichael and Callender.

AJ (01:25:08.909)
Right.

Tara (01:25:28.239)
And she still like lets, you know, we already know and Eve does too. Eve knows that Peabody is going to be great with this kid. Like she’s absolutely going to be able to handle it. And even if Carmichael and Callender are not being like, you know, the they’re not being the caregivers in the moment. Even if Carmichael is doing the badass, like I’m covering the door. So if.

AJ (01:25:36.802)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:25:49.934)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:25:55.309)
Right.

Tara (01:25:56.345)
If he were to if Potter were to somehow be down there or something like she’s still holding like holding down the fort, she’s still doing bad ass shit. But for this kid to still have like a woman in that position is probably going to make him feel better. And I don’t think that it’s sexist. I think that it’s it’s acknowledging like what the point is, because, you know, even if we don’t this is this is a male dominated field. So if we look at this situation, there are there are four women.

AJ (01:26:22.296)
Yes. More so now.

Tara (01:26:26.415)
Right. More so now. Yes.

AJ (01:26:27.468)
because apparently we’ve gotten rid of all the DEI and that means apparently all the women and all the people of color and that probably won’t make it into the show, but.

Tara (01:26:37.777)
that probably shouldn’t. But but I’m thinking about how like if if it was if it’s just even Peabody being the only women on this op and she couldn’t send Peabody in there alone, she’d probably send someone like. Feeny or Trueheart, because Feeny is like, you know, fatherly and true heart is very like approachable, you know, like she’s she’s she strategizes this shit, and it just so happened that it’s like easy to be like this Carmichael.

You know, we don’t really have much of a of physical description of Carmichael, but but we do know that like calendar is fun, you know, and probably feels very approachable. So I don’t know. I feel like I feel like I understand that people would be like, well, that’s very sexist. But at the same time, I’m like. OK, well, I know that for myself, I would I mean, I would rather have someone like True Heart.

AJ (01:27:20.192)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:27:35.823)
who’s very approachable come in the room than like a big burly woman who has like a fierce look about her because I’m terrified or whatever. Like I want to want someone that feels approachable and it sounds like these three women are approachable, you know? So it’s not necessarily sexist. It’s just in this moment it’s three women and it’s going to be fine.

AJ (01:27:51.394)
Right, right.

AJ (01:27:56.972)
Yeah, I’m just, I’m just kind of anticipating. haven’t, I’ve looked at a couple of our, I haven’t really looked at any of the reviews. I’ve looked at a couple, but I’m just anticipating that people are going to go like, I don’t understand why, you know, she goes in the front door with Rourke, but her partner has to go, you know, and it’s because Eve knows again, the importance of getting this kid out and him feeling comfortable with somebody.

Tara (01:28:00.893)
yeah, haven’t looked at any reviews.

AJ (01:28:27.379)
and who’s going to be the right people for that.

Tara (01:28:31.187)
Right. If it were like, you know, some 25 year old kidnapped or something, if it were a girl, if it were a female, she’d probably still send Peabody in. But if it were a male, she’d be like, maybe she’d be different. Maybe Peabody’s going through the door with her and Rourke and whatever, you know?

AJ (01:28:46.55)
Yeah. Well.

I think I seemed to remember, I think it was abandoned. And the one girl that that lived was in the basement. And I think Jenkinson went in with her because she bonded with Jenkinson. And I don’t know whether that was specifically Eve saying Jenkinson, you need to get down there. And maybe it was I don’t remember at this point. But yeah, in that case, she didn’t send Peabody. Peabody was with her and like

Tara (01:28:56.179)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:29:07.016)
Yeah.

AJ (01:29:17.714)
You know, so she picks the right people for each job. She just felt like this kid’s gonna want his mom. And, you know, so it’s better. What she says is not necessarily that, you know, men can’t do it. It’s more like he’ll be more comfortable with women faster.

Tara (01:29:21.703)
and

She’s gonna want his mom.

Tara (01:29:37.811)
Well, Peabody is the one that talks to his parents. You know, so she can honestly go in there and see the boy and say, talked to your parents. And you know, just like that extra little bit of bonding. And like, as much as you’ve heard me say before, know, here’s, mean, you know, I love Rourke, but I’m always like, bit much of Rourke doing cop work.

AJ (01:29:40.94)
Right. Yeah.

AJ (01:29:49.454)
Alright.

Tara (01:30:05.383)
or whatever, but I’m sorry in this in this book, you’ve got to give him this. You’ve got to give him this. Somerset is like a fucking target. For work is embedded in this investigation and Whitney is right there going through the door, not saying a fucking word about a civilian going through the front door. So I don’t really see a problem with work doing it like if if Whitney doesn’t have a problem with it, then no one should. You know, that’s that’s just.

AJ (01:30:05.75)
Yeah. Yeah.

AJ (01:30:13.422)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:30:31.084)
Right, exactly. So, people will, I feel like, yeah.

Tara (01:30:34.683)
My feeling is people will people will no one listens to me

AJ (01:30:40.618)
So, all right, so now this last this last chapter of Charon, I just gonna have to wing it.

Tara (01:30:46.771)
Yep. So, so yeah, Chapter 22.

AJ (01:30:50.563)
AJ (01:30:56.256)
So, so essentially, yeah, they, get up to Potter’s, the master bedroom door.

Tara (01:31:09.671)
Yes.

AJ (01:31:11.111)
And it’s with when the boy is clear. Yeah, she’s she’s.

Tara (01:31:13.181)
They have to, they have to like turn off, yes, after the boy is clear, and then they have to like, even Rourke, have to disengage other booby traps, essentially.

AJ (01:31:26.093)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:31:29.308)
and then they burst in and turn on the lights.

AJ (01:31:34.698)
And that’s gonna be fucking, you know, to be like asleep, asleep. And then next thing you know, lights are on, people are in the room screaming, yeah.

Tara (01:31:37.713)
Hahaha

Tara (01:31:45.757)
Well, do you know that this won’t happen if you don’t kidnap children and murder people? I mean, it’s less likely to happen. I guess it’s less likely to happen because mistaken identity. But not mistaken here, this fucking guy. And he’s wearing his fucking silk pajamas. I remember that. And he was like, fucking seriously, come on.

AJ (01:31:50.924)
Well, yeah, let’s put it less likely to happen. Less likely. Right.

AJ (01:32:07.342)
of rights.

AJ (01:32:12.938)
Yeah. And I love that she said, you’re under arrest for the murder of Giovanni Rossi, a human being for the kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment of Devin McCready, a minor child for the attempted murder by explosive device of Marjorie Wright, Ivana Lisske and Iris Arden. Boy, this is fun. For the,

Tara (01:32:33.145)
No.

And then she’s she starts bleeding again. Yeah.

AJ (01:32:38.482)
And Rourke’s like, let me take him, Lieutenant. You’re bleeding again. And yeah, she looks down. She’s like, what a prep.

Tara (01:32:47.827)
He’s like remember no strenuous activity for 24 hours. She’s like that wasn’t strenuous. That was nothing. This line. That wasn’t strenuous. Additional charges you treasonous fuck include possession of illegal weapons, firing an illegal weapon, assault on an officer by firing an illegal weapon, attempting to fire two illegal weapons at a police officer, almost forgot, threatening to maim and execute a minor child.

AJ (01:32:52.878)
Hahaha

Tara (01:33:18.587)
And then she did like the next line she says is there’s more, but that I’ll do for now. and just to comment, black silk pajamas. Really?

AJ (01:33:28.62)
Yeah, though I’m grateful you covered your tiny useless dick so none of us have to be exposed to it.

Tara (01:33:30.301)
The proof.

Tara (01:33:35.441)
And he… my god. Just spouting off.

AJ (01:33:40.704)
And then he says, says, you ignorant bitch, you whoring cunt, you should be dead. Eve says, hurt, not dead. in response, Rourke turned out of the range of the recorders and delivered a single short arm jab to Potter’s kidneys as he hauled him to his feet. On a choking sound, Potter paled and his already weakened legs gave way at the knees.

Eve simply shot Rourke a warning glare, but in the doorway, Jenkinson just arrived, grinned, and untucked his tie.

Tara (01:34:06.813)
So great.

Tara (01:34:14.003)
Yeah. He’s like, well, I’m good now. Oh, shit. And yeah, and Whitney’s basically right there and he’s just like.

AJ (01:34:22.126)
So…

Tara (01:34:31.953)
yeah, Whitney gets him his house shoes or whatever. he’s just like, good job. You know Whitney is just like, that felt so good just to be in on the action. I just love that for him.

AJ (01:34:45.646)
Yeah, Whitney doesn’t get in on the action as much as he really should or, you know.

Tara (01:34:55.341)
and then.

AJ (01:34:56.554)
And then, you know, Kalender contacts Eve and says, or Eve says, Peabody, where the hell is Peabody? And Kalender says, she’s with the kid and the NT, as Kalender told her, good call sending in the girls for him, Dallas. He’s bonded to Peabody like glue. And she says, she can stick with him as long as he needs. Have the parents been notified? We did that as soon as we got him out, they’re on their way.

Tara (01:35:27.271)
And then back at the mansion, they’re all holding hands or just connecting to each other. And then Rourke calls Somerset. And I love this little moment here where it Somerset took out his link when it signaled Rourke, of course. Should we move out of here before you answer? Cyril asked him.

No, the boy and I don’t lie to each other. When he answered, Rorke lifted his eyebrows. I see. So you already know. We needed to bear witness. Of course, get some sleep and it’ll be some time yet. Tell the lieutenant, well done. I’m just more Somerset being like, yeah, Eve. In his Somerset way, of course.

AJ (01:36:13.676)
Yeah.

AJ (01:36:17.166)
Yeah.

Right.

Tara (01:36:25.093)
And then, yes, then Somerset takes Galahad with him. He’s like, they’re not coming home for a bit. You come with me. I need you.

AJ (01:36:30.584)
You know what, you know what one thing I thought about in this book is that, it was just funny because it was clear that Harry kind of had bonded with with Galahad because we saw him more with Galahad than with anything. as you know, Galahad also bonded with Mick. So Galahad is a thing for thieves, apparently. Yeah. So.

Tara (01:36:41.031)
with Galahad, yeah.

Tara (01:36:51.314)
Hmm?

For thieves. Yeah. I love that. Galahad and his thief friends. Well, Galahad is a fucking thief, so.

AJ (01:37:00.686)
I mean, because… I guess what I was just gonna say…

Tara (01:37:08.115)
fucking little thief. Fuzzy adorable little thief.

AJ (01:37:12.578)
Right? Yeah.

Tara (01:37:17.52)
my God.

AJ (01:37:22.414)
It says Eve spoke to the boy but didn’t push. Peabody remained his anchor till his parents arrived. Tears and gratitude flowed and the kid was all but smothered in hugs. She left it to Peabody and stepped out of the van.

Tara (01:37:39.837)
Yeah, I feel like she’s like, I gotta get away from here, there’s hugging happening. This is not for me.

AJ (01:37:43.86)
Right. So yeah, so she contacts Rio and she contacts Abernathy and…

Tara (01:37:54.067)
God, what the fuck time is it for Abernathy? it’s like the next day for Abernathy. I was like thinking this, poor man.

AJ (01:37:57.474)
Yes, I don’t know. Well, yeah.

And Jenkins says, you know what I like about you, boss? You got mean smarts. Mean’s just mean, smart’s just smart, but together you’ve got something.

Tara (01:38:18.749)
God, I love Jenkinson.

AJ (01:38:20.51)
He’s the best.

Tara (01:38:22.567)
He really is.

AJ (01:38:24.141)
Yeah.

Tara (01:38:27.315)
And then like the list of things that they confiscated from the house is terrifying

AJ (01:38:33.357)
Yeah.

Tara (01:38:37.607)
So many things. And then his lab. No, he doesn’t ask for a lawyer yet.

AJ (01:38:39.648)
And then the idiot doesn’t ask for a lawyer.

Tara (01:38:49.363)
I love when they’re in the van. So they’re all in the van and Rorke is driving and the rest of their team is in the ridiculously plush back. Because we find out that Rorke had all of their vehicles moved from the mansion to Central. And Rorke’s like, well, this just makes more sense. Everyone just rides downtown in this, you know, cushy van. I mean…

AJ (01:39:01.666)
Ha ha ha!

AJ (01:39:09.464)
great.

Tara (01:39:19.301)
It’s great. Like, good, good thinking. And he was like rolling her eyes basically. And then they talk about like who all he would have killed after he killed the rest of the 12. Including it’s the line, the anybody still alive who did any part in his incarceration like. That. You know, I mean, he was a war criminal, so.

AJ (01:39:19.479)
Yeah.

AJ (01:39:33.73)
Right.

AJ (01:39:42.263)
Yeah.

AJ (01:39:48.778)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:39:49.223)
There’s probably a long list of people out there that he’d be going for.

AJ (01:39:55.309)
Yeah.

Tara (01:39:55.601)
But it’s fine, because fuck that guy, he’s been arrested again.

AJ (01:40:00.074)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:40:02.643)
Bye.

Tara (01:40:06.823)
But yeah, then they’re back at Central at this point.

AJ (01:40:10.776)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (01:40:21.175)
yeah, Rio is there. And Eve lets Rio sit in her chair. She’s so generous with her chair in this book. Just get a second. Yeah, you could, you could sit in your own chair that’s yours, because it’s the nicer chair and get a visitor chair that is not literally like the worst.

AJ (01:40:28.088)
Just get a new chair, Eve. Like, what is the… Just get a new chair.

Right.

AJ (01:40:40.942)
It’s not that the visitor chair that you finally decided is too bad for company, that you give people your own chair. Like just get another chair. Just get another fucking chair.

Tara (01:40:51.633)
Yeah, if you’re at this point, get another fucking chair. Come on.

Tara (01:41:05.565)
Yeah, basically they’re just getting ready to go interview him,

AJ (01:41:09.216)
Yeah, and they’ve already called, Somerset and they’re having everyone brought down.

Tara (01:41:13.299)
And everyone’s like Eve, when are you sleeping? And she’s on like her 47th wind.

AJ (01:41:18.222)
I know, right? Because it’s like almost two days straight.

Tara (01:41:23.175)
Yeah, and both Mira and Rourke are like, she’s like, but, at this point as a reader, I’m like, yeah, she knows, please stop harassing her. She’s, she’s not going to sleep now. She’s got to do this. It’s like, you don’t know her or you’re just talking. You know better.

AJ (01:41:36.117)
Right.

Yeah.

Tara (01:41:48.339)
and

Tara (01:41:53.233)
Yeah, I love her line. I’m good. My bloodstream’s 100 % caffeine, but I’m good.

AJ (01:41:59.522)
Well, you know, I mean…

Tara (01:42:01.683)
Well, it’s true.

AJ (01:42:07.66)
Yeah.

Tara (01:42:10.694)
And then it’s great. And then, you know, they bring him into interview A, and I love this line too. She enjoyed the sight of Potter in an orange jumpsuit, a far cry from silk pajamas, and the wrist and leg shackles added a nice touch.

AJ (01:42:27.308)
Yeah, and of course it’s all just the women.

Tara (01:42:29.651)
all the women. I, some of my favorite interrogations in this entire series are when it’s like even Peabody against a guy who’s like, I hate women and you guys should, you know, and so like anytime that there’s extra women in the room, I’m also very pleased. Makes me so happy. So.

AJ (01:42:48.695)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:42:57.762)
And then he’s a big dick asking Rio, like, often do you sleep with your boss? And of course she’s like, I haven’t, thanks for asking. Office romances are so messy and his husband wouldn’t approve.

Tara (01:43:04.167)
He’s so, he’s awful.

Tara (01:43:11.743)
She’s like also gonna get in a jab that like the literal like senior attorney, you know, public attorney for New York City is gay. So…

AJ (01:43:22.4)
Right. And then, yeah. And then Mira says, a preoccupation with sex is understandable. You had no conjugal visits during your lengthy incarceration.

Tara (01:43:34.681)
It’s just like all these little digs. So good. So good.

AJ (01:43:37.326)
And then he says, and we have the shrink, a woman pretending to be a doctor instead of tending to her own family. With a cool smile, Mira opened her file, made a note.

Ha ha ha.

Tara (01:43:57.339)
And then and then, yeah, then when he like tries to do like the dismissive hand gesture and he’s got the shackles on and he’s like, are these necessary ladies? Are you not able to defend yourselves? And then even like, I think, I mean, it’s just fine when I put you in your silk pajamas down.

AJ (01:43:57.549)
AJ (01:44:16.039)
Yeah.

Tara (01:44:16.709)
Shackle stay. then.

Tara (01:44:26.107)
God. And then this section here when she was when she’s like, you would establish yourself in New York and the residents on Riverside Drive as Reginald King. It flows, doesn’t it? This time, instead of his hand, he just waved his fingers. Reginald for royal and, of course, King Reginald comes from the Latin Reginald, which stems from Regina, meaning Queen. He his teeth at Rio. Don’t be absurd.

Queen King funny, Peabody shifted to Mira. Would choosing a name like that indicate delusions of grandeur? Because what I’m looking at in here sure doesn’t come off as royal. So good. And then not not delusions as much as a deep and obsessive need to prove himself superior. Like they are just like what what what amazing teamwork. It’s so good.

AJ (01:45:08.472)
Yeah.

AJ (01:45:18.119)
Right.

Tara (01:45:25.245)
Huh.

AJ (01:45:25.825)
It really is the best.

Tara (01:45:32.989)
So yeah, they talk about like how we lured Rossie to New York City.

And he just every single thing he says is just like so diluted. Like, I don’t hate any people who are beneath me. They’re they’re beneath me. So I don’t you know, like what does he say? One doesn’t hate what’s beneath them. One only feels contempt. OK, sure. No, you hate them because you’re a sad, pathetic man.

AJ (01:46:02.871)
Whatever.

Ha ha.

Tara (01:46:09.682)
Then they like.

Tara (01:46:15.485)
She brings up Alice, doesn’t she?

AJ (01:46:19.925)
yeah.

Tara (01:46:27.943)
Yeah, he does he like

Wait, yeah, she.

Tara (01:46:38.137)
Eve said,

Right after that, she was like, the people along with Leroy DuBois, who you murdered and Alice Stormer, who stopped you, who sacrificed your life to stop you, you spent decades in prison plotting, planning your escape for one primary purpose to kill them all. And he said, I had a purpose. Fong prevented the full completion of that purpose. And he says, because she was able to warn her team of your betrayal, stopping the ambush set to kill, set up to kill them all. So you had to run.

Retreat he corrected this fucking semantics of the wording you used And then Eve said Which is worse for your twisted ego? I wonder being caught and beaten or being spared more beating by Another you felt contempt for I bet it was a tough call and he said I’d have handled wasp. I’d have handled both of them

AJ (01:47:16.758)
Yeah.

Tara (01:47:37.777)
But you didn’t. Rossy busted your nose, your jaw cracked a few of your ribs, bruised your kidneys. She glanced up from the medical report in the file. I bet you were pissing blood for a week.

And he says, you’re a crude, ignorant female. Wow, really? that hurts. You crude, ignorant female. And Eve said, I can’t argue with the crude. Then thanks to the 12, you ended up in Manchester in five hells. It took you decades. And then the only way you could handle Rossi was through deception. And then Peabody said.

AJ (01:47:54.648)
Yeah.

Tara (01:48:16.883)
It’s all he’s got. Peabody commented lives to see masks with wigs. and the face work so he could massage his gigantic ego and look younger when it comes to a one-on-one fight just another pussy and he just You’re nothing but an underling serving under a bitch. Who’s trying to be a man. These are such pathetic Like soap, they’re so pathetic. You don’t even know how to like The say clever things like he’s not even

AJ (01:48:37.581)
haha

Tara (01:48:46.717)
Like none of your insults are clever. They’re just being like, you’re just a bitch. You’re just a dumb woman. Wow, you’re pretending to be a man. Like, okay.

AJ (01:48:49.314)
Yeah, and.

And

And Peabody says, that’s lieutenant bitch to you.

Tara (01:49:01.86)
asshole.

AJ (01:49:03.246)
We could probably do a whole entire episode on all of the times that Eve or somebody says, that’s Lieutenant, fill in the blank to you.

Tara (01:49:11.066)
Right? I love it. And then, yeah, and she like, they’re like at each other, you know, because he said, the day will come when I’m not shackled and I’ll kill you slowly. And Peabody says, oh shiver.

AJ (01:49:24.553)
Ha ha ha ha

Tara (01:49:27.795)
So Eve is like, I love when this kind of shit happens though. Like when she lets Peabody like start shit with the suspects and then Eve will be like, so we can add threatening an officer to this, right? Like it’s just, it’s so Eve, it’s just so well played. The women are amazing.

AJ (01:49:41.674)
Right. Yeah.

Right. But apparently, this guy has decided that because he is not a US citizen, that he’ll be extradited and none of anything that they do matters. Like none of the charges matter. I don’t think so, but he says that he looked at the law. He studied law. He knows law. That’s what he said. Yeah.

Tara (01:50:04.669)
Does that, is that how that works? Or is this guy just a fucking idiot? don’t.

Tara (01:50:12.263)
You study law and then Reno’s like, uh-huh. Like. Right, like if you murder someone also, my dude, you’re also like legally dead and we found you, so. We can do whatever the fuck we want at this point. You’re not actually a European citizen because you’re dead. So. I feel like at this point we can do whatever we need to, right?

AJ (01:50:16.652)
I don’t think that’s how that works.

AJ (01:50:35.64)
Ha ha ha ha ha.

AJ (01:50:40.652)
Right.

Tara (01:50:41.811)
You can’t prove that you’re from the UK because you’re dead. So I feel like that could have been a really, really fun little added argument. Like actually, since you’re dead, you can’t prove that you’re a European citizen. So we’re going to go ahead and try you here. And all the things that you thought you could get away with, you’re not going to.

AJ (01:50:53.559)
Yeah.

AJ (01:51:00.461)
Ha

AJ (01:51:06.744)
Right, and I like how they play this because after he says that, Eve says, I see, and then says she shot a look at And to her credit, Rio shot back one of concern and worry before she spoke. We can fight it. And he’s all thinking like, you’ll lose.

And, you know, so they’re kind of playing him in this way where they’re like, my gosh, is he, is he correct? What should we do? And I think at some point Rio leaves the room. Yeah.

Tara (01:51:38.725)
Yes, she does.

AJ (01:51:43.752)
Yeah, because it’s saying, yeah, maybe we figured out you were alive, that prison doctor who’s in custody, by the way, accepted a substantial sum from you to fake your death and escape. And he says, so you say, it doesn’t matter. Nothing I’ve done on this side of the Atlantic outweighs the rest. You’ll have to turn me over. Even the empty headed blonde knows it. And Rio says, you’ll still be in prison.

I’m sure it sues you to think so. Like, what a complete dick.

Tara (01:52:18.835)
He’s an idiot.

Like, you’re literally an idiot.

AJ (01:52:24.514)
Yeah.

AJ (01:52:28.089)
Tara (01:52:29.723)
Also, can we talk about the fact that this man, like I know he like he thinks he’s just this big badass guy, right? So let’s think about the fact that back during the Urbans, Somerset literally like cornered him in the shower and like twisted his dick almost all the way off. And then Rourke just like without any sort of kickback, no punishment, punches this guy in the fucking kidneys.

AJ (01:52:47.756)
Right?

Tara (01:52:58.995)
You think you think that you’re just you’re safe. Like if you aren’t if you aren’t getting prison for life, you think that the fuckers here that you have interacted with in the last since you’ve been arrested are just going to make sure that you just disappear forever. Like you are not getting out of this, my guy. If you can’t if they can’t handle it legally, what makes you think that there’s really? Oh, well, OK. Yep, you’re fine. Not going to.

AJ (01:53:17.164)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:53:23.854)
Nothing we can do. You’re right.

Tara (01:53:26.947)
murder you instead. Like, mean, I’m sorry. Like, if that were the case, if he were literally about to be like, released because he’s a British citizen or whatever, they would find a way to accidentally, you know, kill him or something. don’t know. There’s no way that this guy was getting out of it. Also, you know, we’re on Eve’s side, so that’s not how the story is going to go. But I’m just saying, like, you’re an idiot. You’re an idiot. You thought she was going to follow your trail on the bus.

the link on the bus, you you thought that you could like lure away spies by stealing, you know, Iris’ cousin’s link. Like, you have not won a single thing. The only time you got anything right was when you tricked someone who had no reason to think otherwise into coming to New York City and you kidnapped a kid. Wow, you’re real tough.

AJ (01:53:56.886)
Right.

AJ (01:54:13.294)
You

AJ (01:54:24.312)
Yeah.

Tara (01:54:28.279)
So impressed, so impressed. I’m just saying. Okay, that rant’s over, sorry.

AJ (01:54:29.602)
Yeah.

AJ (01:54:38.222)
And then there was a part here in Chapter 23 where Peabody starts to yell at him.

Tara (01:54:49.8)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (01:54:54.456)
Basically, you know, they’re talking about Devin. He’s like, you know, if the boy hadn’t been alone, if his mother had done her parental duties, I couldn’t have taken him. She bears the blame. And he was like, you complete prick. And he was like, easy, detective. He’s standing there blaming the mother for somehow allowing him to drug a child, dump an unconscious child into the trunk of his car, to zip-thigh the kid’s wrists and ankles and dump him in a locked storage room.

And he’s like, emotions, you see the female runs on emotions rather than logic. The soft hearted man does the same. I’ll show you emotions. Peabody balled a fist and Eve pushed quickly to her feet. Take it down, Peabody.

AJ (01:55:41.41)
So.

Tara (01:55:42.899)
But like, there are people out there, I have seen people post on Facebook posts, people coming on Facebook posts, who are so willing to blame the person who did not do the bad thing on these things. Like, no, it is not the mother’s fault that you kidnapped her child. It’s your fault for kidnapping the child. You know.

AJ (01:55:58.05)
Right.

Tara (01:56:12.403)
You know, you know how that child would have avoided being kidnapped had you not done it

AJ (01:56:13.293)
Yeah.

Tara (01:56:20.531)
not had the mom taken care of her family and done what women are supposed to do and blah, blah. Like, I’m sorry, that’s just such a gross take. Like what you are. You are so afraid of women. And I’m like the way I enjoyed these last two chapters of him just being completely eviscerated by strong women.

AJ (01:56:30.114)
It really is.

AJ (01:56:41.902)
Yeah. This is some good.

Tara (01:56:44.999)
And I, yeah, no, I’ll just say, and I love that Peabody like keeps going, you know, that Eve is like, okay, that’s enough. And she’s like, no, I did this. And by the way, that takes a strong person to do that. She was, she absolutely was entitled to her emotions there. He is clearly a fucking psychopath and doesn’t understand emotion or empathy.

AJ (01:56:54.444)
Yeah.

AJ (01:57:01.815)
Right.

Tara (01:57:12.717)
or how to interact with people. And she’s like, absolutely. I took care of this kid, and I am going to bite your head off about it. And then Eve just squeezes this little thing in here, which I love. He’s bitchy because his mother ditched him when he was a kid.

AJ (01:57:35.202)
Well…

Tara (01:57:36.187)
And he says, shut up about that. Hey, I get it. No mother on record here. Maybe Devon’s mom should have walked him home from school. Orchestra practice, she added. He plays the violin, which his mom found in a case in the alley, because he dropped it when you grabbed him, which, of course, is fucking stupid as well. You like left that behind. You’re terrible. You’re terrible at this job. You can’t even kidnap a kid properly. God, you suck.

AJ (01:57:54.698)
Right. Yeah.

Yeah, he does suck.

Tara (01:58:05.747)
Yeah.

AJ (01:58:08.174)
And then Eve says little ways down here, you had a little thing for Alice Dormer, but she was married to Somerset and didn’t return that thing. And he says, I assure you, had I pressed the matter, she would have. No, no, no.

Tara (01:58:22.83)
no.

Tara (01:58:26.758)
Absolutely not.

AJ (01:58:27.659)
Nah.

and she had no business being in the unit after giving birth. And Eve says to Mira, mom thing again, I bet you’ll, I bet you’ll mind that one, Dr. Mira. And Dr. Mira’s like, I already am.

Tara (01:58:48.753)
Ugh.

Tara (01:58:52.423)
Yeah, I feel like the mom thing, but also him being rejected by Alice was like the way that that is still his like one of his driving forces is like you cannot handle being bested by women. You cannot handle it. You sad, pathetic man.

AJ (01:59:04.909)
Yeah.

AJ (01:59:12.052)
And now that you say that, because like, you want to think that this guy did this for some, I mean, they already said that he didn’t really do it. He didn’t really plan to blow it up or ruin that up for the enemy to help the enemy. just wanted to get away with his millions or whatever. But now you have to think about like, did he do it because he’s pissed at Somerset? Because he wanted Alice and

He tried and she said no and then Somerset twisted his dick and he was like, okay, fuck this. These people are dying.

Tara (01:59:47.921)
Yeah, I I feel like there’s I personally feel like that was because here’s the thing. Had he not done this, he probably could have gotten away with with getting more and more millions in some other ways after they managed to do all of this. He could have continued playing both sides if he was smart. But I think he got hung up on everything because no one rejects him. He’s better than this Ukrainian man.

AJ (01:59:59.896)
Right.

AJ (02:00:15.223)
Right.

Tara (02:00:16.753)
you know, who doesn’t belong in his country. Like, I just, I feel like that’s kind of, was that the catalyst for him deciding to do this? Maybe. But more so like the fact that he is still obsessing over her and can’t handle when Eve is like reminding him, yep, you were bested by, you know, a woman. I mean, essentially all of this is Alice, you know, and those.

AJ (02:00:27.682)
Yeah, I don’t know.

AJ (02:00:31.682)
Yeah, it’s weird.

AJ (02:00:41.772)
Right. Yeah.

Tara (02:00:45.147)
Those other people, other technically eight, but one of them has died recently, but the other eight of the 12 are alive because of her.

AJ (02:00:56.525)
Right.

Tara (02:00:59.379)
So, cut yourself.

AJ (02:01:02.476)
He really does suck.

And so, so at a certain point Rio gets a call on her link and she’s like, I’m sorry, I have to take this and.

AJ (02:01:21.214)
He and Peabody says he can’t get away with this lieutenant and he says watch me

AJ (02:01:29.276)
And

Tara (02:01:32.923)
He’s so gross because Mira says Mr. Potter. Do you feel your retribution entitles you to take these lives as many as necessary? Wars aren’t just to be fought but to be won. This is for you war. It’s my war Notting she made the other note in the file But like how gross are you Wow, yeah, I can kill as many people as I want For what purpose like what?

AJ (02:01:34.187)
Yep, yeah.

AJ (02:01:51.5)
Yeah. Yeah.

Right?

Right?

Tara (02:02:00.979)
That’s the other thing is I’m like, I’m still trying to figure out what are you trying to say that, like, what are you trying to say happened that entitles you to kill people?

AJ (02:02:12.834)
Well, Alice didn’t return his affections and Somerset twisted his dick.

Tara (02:02:14.961)
Yeah, a woman did not, did not want to a…

AJ (02:02:19.914)
I feel like this guy would be just that petty. Now I’m killing everyone.

Tara (02:02:22.972)
Right?

Yeah, it’s gross.

AJ (02:02:28.334)
So, and then Rio comes back in and I think Eve says, Rio, Mr. Potter was providing us with full details. We’re nearly done. And Rio said, go ahead and finish. Failure weighs heavy, doesn’t it? Like, shut the fuck up, So yeah, I mean, he gave him everything they needed.

Tara (02:02:30.653)
Hehehe.

Tara (02:02:48.218)
Ugh, curry sucks.

AJ (02:02:56.358)
And he says, I believe that covers it. Nearly. Yeah, you know, you knew they’d all come. The remainder of the 12. Of course, as I said, we took an oath, one for all, all for one nonsense. They took another after Hawk and Fawn fell. Rossi told me himself when he confronted me after my capture. A sacred oath, he called it. The foolish man believed it would shame me. A sacred oath. If one needed help.

He had only to ask and they would all come. A bond that would never break, he said. Now he’s dead by my hand because he answered that call, kept that oath. You use loyalty as a weapon. Everything is a weapon. Okay, we got it all on record. Which is worth the price of piss. I’d like to go back now. I’d enjoy a nap before my travels.

Tara (02:03:48.823)
fuck you. Yeah, he’s like, I guess we did disturb your sleep in your fucking silk pajamas.

AJ (02:03:57.558)
Right.

AJ (02:04:01.674)
And Mira’s saying that he’s, as far as she’s concerned, he’s legally sane.

And she says, if he’s able to escape prison, and Potter says, when? And she says, he will continue his war, endangering any in his path until he kills those who remain of the Twelve. He will also attempt to kill the four of us in this room for standing against him. You’ll never see it coming. Enjoy living in fear.

Tara (02:04:31.764)
Yes. It’s so good.

AJ (02:04:33.102)
Ha!

AJ (02:04:36.814)
Ha

AJ (02:04:40.45)
And he says, you’re right, Peabody, tiny balls and a complete prick. Rio, your end? Yes, I have some paperwork here. Extradition, boo hoo.

Without sparing a glance toward Potter, Rio held out the papers to That’s your deal, Eve told her. I insist, do what Rourke suggested, passing the buck as you yanks say typical.

Tara (02:05:10.291)
And then it’s so good So then Eve gets to say the you know big you fucking suck line basically Conrad Potter you have confessed on record and of your own volition the premeditated murder of Giovanni Rossi to the attempted murder of Marjorie Wright are Iris Arden and Ivana Lisey to the possession of illegal weapons of banned toxic gas of explosives

AJ (02:05:10.451)
and yeah, go ahead.

AJ (02:05:19.758)
haha

Tara (02:05:37.499)
You have further confessed to the firing of an illegal weapon upon a police officer and civilians to the drugging, abduction, imprisonment and assault against the minor child, Devin McGrady. You have stated the intention to commit murder if circumstances allow you the freedom to do so. For these crimes and intentions, you will not be tried in the state of New York or serve any sentence here. You will be extradited. You lose. You will be extradited, you festering.

Hust seeping boil on the ass of humanity Sticks and stones from the city of New York directly to the off-planet maximum security prison of Omega I’m like yes, and he’s he calls her a lying bitch As she keeps going Where you’ll spend the rest of your miserable shit stain of a life with no possibility of parole And he said I’ll kill you first every fucking one of you

AJ (02:06:18.922)
Yes.

Tara (02:06:34.683)
She continues in a concrete cage. This relocation is authorized and agreed upon due to your crimes committed in New York City by the British government and the goddamn United States of America.” And I was like, there it is.

AJ (02:06:46.369)
You

Tara (02:06:49.319)
The British government was like, yeah, yeah, just get him the fuck off this planet. I feel like that’s really how that went. And that’s what Rio was doing, was having him sign all that shit.

AJ (02:06:49.496)
Yup.

AJ (02:06:53.134)
You’re right. Exactly.

AJ (02:06:58.24)
Yeah. And now he’s like, I want a lawyer. okay. Well, good luck with that.

Tara (02:07:03.313)
Well, she’s like sure you can have one but all your money is going bitch

AJ (02:07:09.262)
And then he’s like, I won’t go. I can’t be forced to an off planet prison. Yeah, you can.

Tara (02:07:16.691)
You can.

Tara (02:07:21.491)
man. And then,

Yeah, then he tries one more time to try to get to them.

it said So at the end of the of the interview Eve says interview end Nice job girls. You don’t want to miss this part. She walked out behind Potter then stood as the 12 filed out of observation He tried to lunge when he saw them when they join and they stood joined together Wild red color stained his face as he struggled against two uniforms I’ll kill you all and your families your children their children dead all dead. I swear it

Harry stepped forward. We decided I should speak for all of us, just to add to what the lieutenant said, and it was bloody eloquent. He held up his middle finger. Now we’ll never speak again.

AJ (02:08:27.576)
Somebody’s celebrating that Potter is going to an off-planet prison and shooting off fireworks.

Tara (02:08:38.419)
Well, we big joke in Parma, where we’re like, is it fireworks or gunshots?

AJ (02:08:42.638)
I’m pretty sure it was fireworks because I heard like a sizzle afterwards. So somebody’s shooting off. Yeah, somebody’s shooting off fireworks because they’re so happy that. Yeah, so again, this is my headcanon that they’re shooting fireworks because they’re so happy that Potter is going to an off planet prison.

Tara (02:08:45.789)
But I’m pretty sure those were fireworks. Yeah, I heard the sizzle too. Not unusual at 916 at night, I guess. I don’t know. Jesus Christ.

Tara (02:09:03.123)
The potters enjoy Omega, bitch. Yeah, I also love that Eve is like so into bad Peabody this book. She’s like, yeah, yeah, I love this. I really enjoyed you kind of like, you know, building her up there.

AJ (02:09:08.461)
Right?

AJ (02:09:18.76)
You

AJ (02:09:25.547)
Yeah.

Tara (02:09:32.229)
And then all of the things about like she’s like, go home and sleep. I’ll write it up. And then a few minutes later, Whitney’s like, I’ll write it up. And I’m like, Whitney, I love you so much. And then, of course, like Chief Timble is there and then they they like shake the hands of the 12. And this is this is the part where where we’re going to go ahead and solidify our earlier decision that Yvonne Drosky is totally OK.

AJ (02:09:44.514)
You

AJ (02:09:52.195)
Yeah.

Tara (02:10:02.237)
Like the fucking chief of police in New York City is like, hey, thanks for your service. I think he’s allowed to be here.

AJ (02:10:03.361)
Yes.

AJ (02:10:08.619)
Yeah. Yeah.

Tara (02:10:10.725)
No one needs to look back on any previous cases. No need for that. You can stay. Go hang out with your friends.

AJ (02:10:18.049)
Nope.

AJ (02:10:22.028)
Yeah, and then tomorrow they’re all going to leave and they’re going to go to Giovanni Rossi’s memorial, which is very nice.

Tara (02:10:25.715)
Yeah, in Italy. No. And they all get to be together.

AJ (02:10:36.843)
and

AJ (02:10:43.566)
Jenkinson says, he screamed like a girl, we could all hear him. She jabbed a finger at Jenkinson, don’t insult girls.

Tara (02:10:52.883)
That’s right.

AJ (02:10:56.584)
she started to contact Rossi’s family, then stop when she heard footsteps, not familiar in her hallway, then frowned when Somerset came to the doorway. A word, please. A quick one. I’ve got orders. I want to thank you. He sighed a gust, he sighed a gust of air. Don’t put on that face. It’s my face. I’m always wearing it. I’m not thanking you for doing your job, which you would dismiss.

I’m thanking you for what you said at the end of your interview about my wife, about Alice. I said what was true. Truth doesn’t need thanks either. Truth matters and when spoken matters more. She would have liked you a great deal. She was a warrior too. He glanced down. There’s blood on your shirt. It’s from before. I’ll see to it. We’ll have spaghetti and meatballs tonight for Giovanni. If you’re not overly tired by then, I hope you’ll join us.

He walked away before she answered or could think of how to answer. So yeah, mean, really spaghetti and meatballs for Giovanni Somerset. You know, you’re doing that for Eve.

Tara (02:11:59.315)
I I love.

Tara (02:12:04.603)
Right. Giovanni. Right. It just happens to serve two purposes. And I love that. Yeah.

AJ (02:12:06.21)
But also Giovanni, but you’re doing it for Eve. Yeah. Yeah. And you know, I mean, again, this is we’re also this is the book where Eve and Somerset bond a little bit.

Tara (02:12:23.741)
They do.

AJ (02:12:25.208)
So that’s always fun. It’s nice to see. We love to see it.

Tara (02:12:34.141)
We do, we do. What a lovely ending of this book, you know, and you doesn’t even have to write up the fucking report. Her boss is going to do it for her. I know.

AJ (02:12:37.996)
Yeah.

AJ (02:12:42.094)
That’s so nice. Because she hasn’t had sleep in like two days. Yeah. And she’s falling asleep on the drive home, so.

Tara (02:12:48.659)
Two days.

Tara (02:12:54.845)
Well, and Rourke brings the title around full circle about when they’re leaving. That’s Eve is like, it just needs some sleep, a shower, a really long hot shower, then sleep. Peabody was fierce, she was. Mira and Rio really played him. The four of you bonded, one purpose, and it was impressive. Teamwork. He was so proud of it. The idea that he’d worked out

The idea he’d worked out that nothing he did here would matter. Kill, maim, destroy, so what? Can’t hold it against me. And you proved otherwise. The law did. The system worked. Both sides of the ocean.” So he’s like, yeah, we just did our jobs. We just did our jobs. Stop saying that I did anything other than my job. Okay, Eve, it’s okay. Take credit for the shit you do. Thanks.

AJ (02:13:35.086)
It’s so Eve. The law did.

AJ (02:13:48.504)
You

AJ (02:13:54.112)
and her saying like…

AJ (02:14:01.742)
Somebody must have said, lowered the boom on it. Because, but it’s satisfied that she could still see the shock on Potter’s face when she’d lowered the boom. She’s thinking this in her head. And then she says it out loud. A boom’s a noise. It is indeed. He opened the passenger door all but poured her into it. Then why do you lower it? A boom on a ship, you raise and lower it. That’s stupid. I wish I wouldn’t have thought it.

Tara (02:14:05.544)
Yeah.

Tara (02:14:29.747)
Get this woman some sleep and spaghetti and meatballs.

AJ (02:14:31.062)
Adoring her, walked to the driver’s side, got behind the wheel. Spaghetti and meatballs, she muttered after you slept. Yeah, no, Somerset and spaghetti and meatballs, and we should eat with them. I don’t know.

After you’ve slept, I think you’d enjoy it. There, as I’ve said, an enjoyable bunch. Maybe. Is he going to Italy, too? Somerset? He glanced over as he drove, noted she was nearly under. Of course, they were mates. Just you and me tomorrow. Tomorrow and a few days more, you and me. Nice. Been busy. Miss you and me.

Tara (02:15:14.899)
and then you get to go home and eat pizza or sleep and spaghetti and meatballs.

AJ (02:15:18.71)
Yeah.

Tara (02:15:21.241)
she earned.

AJ (02:15:22.574)
She really did earn it in this book.

Tara (02:15:26.141)
I mean, to be honest, I feel like she’s earned sleep and spaghetti meatballs all the time, but this was like two days worth of no sleep. That’s some shit, man.

AJ (02:15:31.03)
Right. Yeah. So, okay. What about accommodations? Do you have accommodations?

Tara (02:15:42.375)
Well, I would say Alice. I think Alice is, we can’t not give Alice a commendation.

AJ (02:15:47.084)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (02:15:52.0)
Right. Posthumously, she gets a combination.

Tara (02:15:55.313)
Yes, apostumous commendation.

AJ (02:15:58.55)
Right. I feel like I’m gonna give mine to Marjorie.

Tara (02:16:05.242)
I love Marjorie.

AJ (02:16:05.262)
Marjorie did a lot in this book. Well, you know, it’s so funny because obviously there were too many people, there were too many characters. And you have to have one person speak out for the group of them. You know, even though they all spoke out, but Marjorie really did most of the talking for the group of them. And you would think it would be Ivana, but she chose Marjorie.

Tara (02:16:21.672)
Yeah.

Tara (02:16:32.283)
And I love that. I love it. Yeah, I love. I mean, I I really loved all these characters. They were so great.

AJ (02:16:33.366)
Yeah. And she made a lot of good points.

Mm hmm. They all deserve a come that all of the 12 deserve a commendation, to be honest. So. So, yeah, we’re really we’re really this is another two and a half, not two and a half hours, but it’s another two hour episode. So again, I don’t know that we’re going to do podcast business.

Tara (02:16:43.763)
Yeah, the 12.

AJ (02:17:09.138)
And we just, we’ll do that probably next time. We’ll save all the podcast business for next time. and it’s too late.

Tara (02:17:18.387)
Do we have podcast business for next time?

AJ (02:17:21.448)
I, I do actually, I have podcast business that I can talk about now, but it just seems like, yeah. and it’s, I don’t think we want to do comments from people like, so that’s going to have to wait as well. Cause it’s, you know, it’ll wait for next week’s episode, which next week will be, we review the reviews. So, we’ll do comments at that time.

Tara (02:17:24.146)
Yay.

We’ll save it.

Tara (02:17:47.559)
We’ll right back.

AJ (02:17:52.723)
so I think that’s, I think that’s it, unless you have something else to say about this book.

Tara (02:17:59.087)
I not right this second, I’m sure I’ll have more to say about this book next week.

AJ (02:18:03.086)
Just overall, a fantastic book. It’s like one of the best books in a long time, I think.

Tara (02:18:07.383)
I, yeah.

I really, I really was just so excited to read this book. And I said this on the last episode, you know, like, even though, even though like,

The the actual take down the Potter was I feel like a little less high drama than it could have been. think just the the tone of the whole book kept me in this like heightened state of like action. The whole like I just the whole book I was like, yes, you know, and the first half of the book, I’m just waiting for like something bad to happen to characters we know and love. And I’m like, I feel like I just feel like Nora.

AJ (02:18:42.104)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (02:18:55.574)
Right.

Tara (02:18:58.715)
was able to write us into a space where we were all kind of on edge. And I think that was obviously like on purpose. And I’m I just I loved it. I really did. And everyone like everyone was just like on their game in this book. And it was yeah, it was a fun read. I definitely had moments I still laughed. I, you know, I definitely had interactions that I was just like, I’m really loving this for these characters.

AJ (02:19:02.211)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (02:19:15.768)
Mm-hmm.

AJ (02:19:24.471)
Yeah.

Tara (02:19:28.435)
Just really good.

AJ (02:19:31.106)
Yeah. What is your speculation about, so going forward with Eve and Somerset?

Tara (02:19:40.851)
I mean, I think that even Somerset had actually kind of already reached a place of like mutual respect that we were seeing kind of regularly, but obviously within their parameters of making sure they’re having their spats. And I’m wondering if when he first comes back from Italy after Giovanni’s memorial, I wonder if there might be like a silent moratorium about that for a bit, but I hope that they don’t let go of their little like,

AJ (02:19:51.374)
Mm-hmm.

Tara (02:20:10.717)
their little spats. That’s who they are, because they’ve also it’s also been very clear that that’s been in that’s been in fun. And that’s been in kind of like this is kind of tradition for us. The last, I don’t know, third of the series, to be completely honest, like it’s been a while that that’s how their interactions have been, that it’s not that they actually don’t hurt have ill will toward each other. So what about you?

AJ (02:20:23.212)
Yeah.

AJ (02:20:30.37)
Right, yeah.

AJ (02:20:36.866)
Right. Yeah, I think, you know, it would kind of be a shame if it was just like, they’re all just nice to each other from now on. Because yeah, that was their thing. it’s just going to be a game between them now on. But it’s, you know, showing a little bit more respect for each other, I think, is going to happen. But we’re still going to get that.

Tara (02:20:45.777)
Yeah, I don’t.

AJ (02:21:07.182)
you know, sparring back and forth.

Tara (02:21:12.093)
that we’ve come to know and love.

AJ (02:21:12.244)
And yeah, we really I love it. I don’t know about other people that are going to review these books, but I do love the even Somerset like back and forth arguments. And he’s always going to be defiant to get anything that happens that involves him. He’s always going to be defiant about like, can take care of myself as you know, you know, and she’s always going to be like, Yeah, but I’m the cop and blah, blah. So that’s always going to happen. So

Tara (02:21:25.021)
Yeah, I do.

AJ (02:21:41.527)
You know, it’s something we love about the series, so I hope that she doesn’t take it away or tone it down too much.

Tara (02:21:51.379)
Yeah, it would just be sad.

AJ (02:21:54.796)
Yeah. So, OK, I guess that’s it then for this episode of Podcasts and Death. Tara (02:22:47.059)
