Episode 231: Put Down the Books & Walk Away Slowly
Podcast in Death
AJ January 28, 2023 125
We’re back with We Review the Reviews! This time for “Salvation in Death.” Many of the old standards make an appearance in this episode including:
Because of the book’s central theme and the fact that the first murder takes place inside a Catholic church, we have several reviewers who tell us about how much Nora Roberts, who’s a Catholic, doesn’t know anything about the Catholic church. Also, we have one reviewer who feels this book was: “…very disrespectful to my Lord and Saviour.”
We have a reviewer that makes us all angry when they say the car sex scene in this book is “white trash behavior” and that all Peabody cares about is “cramming food into her fat face…” among other completely disrespectful shit about the book.
We have someone go off on how much of a “harpy” Eve has become, and how they “can no longer deal with, let alone, enjoy, Eve Dallas, or her outright sadism.” They also used big words like “vituperation,” but then couldn’t be bothered to spell Roarke’s name correctly.
BUT…
There are some really great reviews here also. Like the reviewer who said: “Dallas always gets the bad guy but does it with class.” Also, a first time reader who said: “A smooth blend of slightly futuristic, amusingly sensual, compellingly devious fiction; police procedural with a twist; accented by great dialog and fascinating glimpses of future history, plus great characters and a wealth of hidden backstory that makes me eager to read more.”
And of course, we always need to have at least one great Susan Ericksen review in which the reviewer states: “She makes it a true production! She is a talented actor who can make the voice of each character sound unique and believable.”
Enjoy!
